Weigh-in Apr 30, 2013

Weigh-in this morning ... 192.7 down .1 but essentially the same as yesterday's new low so I'm happy about that. I think I am going to adjust my calorie goal down by 100 calories to 2100-2200. I've been at 2200-2300 for the last 10 pounds and 8 weeks or so.

Hiya Welcome to our thread

How is your hunger now?

1600 is probably okay for a starting point for you.

Do you exercise?

Clueless, you have put your finger on what it feels like for me too! muscle fatigue and heaviness, no strength and feeling like I need to conserve energy til I'm 'forced' to move to do something. I feel like a hibernating bear most of the time only not sleeping, just not moving.

Cheryl, it's just temporary. You have done so great. By the way, my new glasses are ready to be picked up. They said they made a mistake pricing them and need another $ 57. Sheesh.. $237

Can't gripe much because I need the glasses to drive more. I'm losing weight, gaining stamina and getting out more. Happy, Happy.

if you don't mind me asking did you do a cheesecake recipe from the boards here? Can you post it or direct me to it? I'm looking for a fantastic cheesecake recipe and am always ready to see another recipe. I could live on cheesecake.

sorry I just saw the reference to the recipe; here's the link Cheesecake(with nutrition label)

Welcome,
Congrats on the great loss you have already accomplished
Taking prednisone and not packing on the lbs is an accomplishment all on it's own!

Hi. I do some walking-about 2 miles/2x wk. My hunger is not as bad--increased my fat so have been hitting 76% or higher. Started adding CO to my coffee. Been religously weighing and measuring my food and journaling on ******. Forgot to mention that I'm 56y. Proud that I lost the 70lbs and thru determination, stuck with atkins all this time even with the almost yr stall. Just feel better with the low carb woe!

Woe Nelly, that would make me more than a tad grumpy.
I might be apt to say I made a mistake purchasing my glasses from you.
But you will be looking all hip and Purdy in your new specs.

Congrats on feeling better and getting out and about.

Thanks! I actually was able to cut it down, but can't get off it. Have psoriatic arthritis and the prednisone keeps the joints and skin from flaring. Low carbs-atkins/nk really helps too! Since it keeps the pa in better control, I can keep the diet in control!

I do not think it matters much if you eat up everything in the house (keeping total carbs low) once in a while. You may see a bump on the scale but I doubt it is a real gain. It takes time to digest the weight of the food you ate and it takes extra water (which will show on the scale) to digest it too.

If it is happening a lot then carefully review your menu plan, macros and calorie levels to see if something sticks out. If nothing does then look at fat source, protein sources, et. al. for problems that may be creating the situation indirectly. Even supplements. Look for changes that have been made recently.
I'm only 4 days back into NK after being off plan all last week, so I probably just need to give it more time before worrying too much about calories. I did make myself stop yesterday when I got up to 1700 calories, even though I was still hungry.

When I first started a few months ago, it took about 10 days for the appetite suppression to kick in.

At that rate you're more likely to keep the weight off than if you're losing big numbers every week.

I haven't tried the Leptin reset, but from what I've read it's pretty protein-intensive and not really in keeping with NK. I found that I experienced a leptin reset (and lost my insulin resistance) in the first few months of low-carbing. I think the real benefit comes from eating a low-carb diet and giving the pancreas a chance to rest after years of abuse.
I'm doing my own leptin reset where i eat most of my protein at breakfast, keep it very low carb and never snack between meals or after dinner- no food after 7 pm....I can't follow the super strict Leptin RX but I'm pretty sure its helping me some. Strangely, my weight has changed much but I seem to be shrinking as I'm starting to get comments from people about how I look smaller. I can't see it myself but there you go...

That's the one I used peach flavored torani syrup for the sweetener and used the less amount.

Cravings

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! With regards to cravings, my past experience has been thus far -

1. L-glutamine works great for cravings - I use the Jarrow brand in powder form, about 5-10 g in a glass of water. It also comes in handy during TOM for cravings!

2. Dairy - always seems to spark an unnaturally huge appetite for me

3. Apple cider vinegar - just a teaspoon with every meal, as a salad dressing or put it in your sauce for some tang. This helps "close up the stomach" and make you feel full

So I keep these 3 things in mind when I get a silly huge appetite or cravings, even though I have eaten enough and logically shouldn't be hungry.

So it's time to get serious about those ratios.

Day 1 - 138.4 pounds
1322 calories
73.7% fat
22.2% protein

Breakfast - Fat bomb made with coconut oil and macadamia nut butter
Lunch - boiled eggs, chorizo and hot chocolate with coconut oil
Dinner - chicken drums and coconut cream curry dipping sauce (YUMMMM)

Looking forward to egging each other on! Let's keep the motivation going
