Weigh in this morning: a big bounce back up to 190. This is not surprising after eating higher carb last week. My plan of attack for the next month is to keep total carbs under 30 g, limit protein to 65 g, and eat enough fat to keep calories around 1400.

I'm still thinking of trying the leptin reset, but won't change anything until I give NK a chance to work with lower protein.

I understand that NK and leptin reset are not compatible and did not mean to imply that they were. I was just asking if anyone had tried it. My protein intake has actually been lower than usual in April, averaging 65-70 g per day. I'll probably continue that for a few more weeks to see if it makes a difference.
I feel your pain Lisa. It'd be awesome if you were one of the people that zooms down to goal weight.

But I think that most people do not experience that - like 80% to pull a number out of the air. But the 20% that do make a big splash because they are excited and they tell everyone. Most of the ones that don't experience it are not excited about the lack of progress and don't make excited posts about it. So there is a selection bias and a confirmation bias.

If you think about it, when someone asks for guidance the people that respond are generally the ones that are successful. So you see a lot of anecdotal this is what I did for success type posts. But people that were not similarly successful don't usually post saying so for several reasons - they don't want to be negative, they assume they did something wrong, they really did do something wrong (binge or whatever), they aren't here to post their experience.

A large part of losing weight is mental. Everything really starts right there. What you are putting in your mouth is not usually as important as your thought process. Right? Most people can lose weight on almost any diet plan if their head is on straight about it. But if their head isn't right the diet, any diet, is doomed to failure.

So I say all that to say this: What matters is that you are losing weight without most of the horrible things that accompany mainstream weight loss plans like being hungry all the time, bingeing, health issues, loss of excessive LBM, buying expensive branded diet food, monthly fees, weekly meetings, awful tasting diet food, lots of effort and pain and *no* weight loss, etc. You are comparing yourself to the wrong group of people when you compare your losses to the small group that is LC and had fantastically quick weight loss.

Bricka bracka firecracka sis boom bah! LC! LC! RAH RAH RAH!!

Deb34 did the leptin reset back March:

High Fat NK 80/15/5 - March Version

...what she posted sounded workable with NK.

Someone asked Phinney about it on the LTS podcast. I think he said he didn't know of any medical trails that supported it.

Lots of people seem to be excited about it and have results with it so if you want to do it I don't see any reason not to

Down 1.4 to 234.6. Maybe it was the lower calories yesterday without the hwc. Missed it but

Lisa,
Darin says it so perfectly.
I am one that has lost pretty slowly. Been doing LC/Nk since the end of August. I have only cheated once as far as LC goes the entire time. I did fall out of NK once too because I was eating too much protein. I have lost 16 to 18 lbs (depending on the day) in that 8 months.
Doesn't sound too great does it?
Or, Dang that's awesome, Isn't it!!
Just depends on how you look at it

To me 13 lbs in 14 or 16 weeks sounds pretty dang amazing!
I am proud of you. Your doing great!

I am kinda doing a leptin reset but I am only doing 25 to 30 g of protein at breakfast. That seemed to help me. I am trying some of the other rules Deb posted but doing it my way. The higher protein at breakfast helps me. Just fat for breakfast didn't work for me and I stayed too hungry all day.

Aww thanks everyone Feeling pretty good today despite a bad night's sleep and a headache this morning... just happy I'm getting closer to where I want to be!

Oh, and I did check out the rib recipe in that book by the way Darin... I was drooling over that last night while I was sitting on my couch, wishing I was BBQ-ing instead I'll have to give it a shot if I ever am in the situation where it seems feasible, but living in an apartment right now my grilling time is usually limited to the parks. Which you know... hamburgers (sometimes) and hot dogs are pretty much the easy standard fare there. But I miss good BBQ-ed ribs!

I'm oven roasting some country style ones tonight though, because I found them on great markdown... I think it'll be 4 days worth of meat for me, for $3 Never cooked them before, so I'm nervous. But I made a low carb (almost) honey mustard sauce I plan on brushing them with after seasoning them, so I'm excited to give it a shot!

I'm probably going to change the title of the thread for May. As much as I like the history of our 80/15/5 title, with the dissolution of the competing thread I think too many new people get stuck on macro ratios and NK is not about perfect ratios.

Thanks for the encouragement and pep talk. I do feel better eating LC and my clothes are getting looser, even though I'm wearing the same size as when I started.

Deb's post on leptin reset was interesting. I've been eating about 30 g of protein at breakfast and don't snack after dinner, so I don't think it will be all that difficult when I do try it.

I've decided the first thing I'm going to buy when I get a steady job is a meter to test blood ketones. I could get a free meter on Amazon right now with reward points, but the strips are too costly.

Both of my meters were free from the manufacturer's website One didn't come with any ketone strips though, and the other came with two samples. So far I've used them both to check my BG but not ketones because I agree... the strips are too expensive!

That's true, any ideas on what to change it to? I find so many similarities between us and Eat Fat, Get Thin that the numbers kind of helped us to stick out... but it's true that you don't have to be hitting perfect ratios to be in good shape with NK. I think it DOES highlight that your fat should be even higher than most of the higher fat LC diets though, so that's a positive thing.

Really a toss up, but I'm sure you could come up with something that'd work for a new thread

There is a way to get a free meter and even a few free strips. Google:

jimmy moore n=1 free novamax

and in the first link is an interesting blog post that includes a link to the form you would fill out. I think there is also a way to get 2 extra strips by registering your novamax after it arrives.

By the way, if you do buy the device, you must get the "Novamax plus" the plain "Novamax" only does blood glucose, not blood ketones.

Thanks, Phillip! I signed up for the free Novamax Plus and will hang on to it until I can afford the ketone strips.

Your max CO intake at one time?

I just made it through the April posts in this thread. A more and more arduous task as the months pass...

Oh, I meant to say that I have recently been increasing the amount of CO I eat before my powerlifting workouts. I am up to 5 heaping tablespoons! Can anyone else beat that? It makes me feel a little queasy unless I mix it with some water and microwave it for about 20 seconds, then mix it up. Then it is like -- well, it is drinking oil. I liked it yesterday. I mean, I even vocalized "I love coconut oil" as I finished it. Then I thought "why did I say that?"

Each workout (3 per week) I have been going up by 1 tablespoon. My workout may (or may not) burn in excess of 1200 kcals. Prior to starting the workout, my BK level was 5.2 mM (probably before the bulk of the CO had a chance to be metabolized). After it was at 0.7 mM.

I still felt kind of stupid during the workout and it dragged out for hours. But I think I am fighting off a stomach virus.

How does that sound?
