Good morning!!

I was in track all day until another thing broke. This time the hot water heater. I had the "screw it" attitude and went out to eat. But I paid for it and thankful to be back NK today.

New hot water heater installed by hubby and I. Those things are heavy!!

Happy Tuesday to ya!

Day 1 Weight 181 (4/1/13) – Fat Fasting post ridiculous binge.
Menu for entire day consisted of 5.5 oz HWC and 2 Tbsp CO. I only hit 770ish calories:
4 carbs, 3 prot, 85 fat: 96.5/1.5/2
Worked out in the morning – one hour dance cardio with some strength training (Wasn’t sure if I can say the name since it’s like a brand but it’s Jazz and exercise combined LOL).
Then in eve did a quick ab workout with my guy then did 50lbs barbell deadlifts (3 sets of 10)

Since I worked out quite a bit and ate so low calorie yesterday and shed like 5 of the binge lbs I am not doing FF and will just be eating for NK - woot for food LOL

Thank goodness this morning WI at a smidge under 176 post eating breakfast and 1 hour dance cardio class. So Day 2 of my April challenge to be NK (and stay that way!)…woke up not that hungry surprisingly. Did a ketostix test even though I knew it wouldn’t be good news – I just wanted to try my first stick LOL…But motivates me to see it change so DEF staying on track! Had 2.5 oz of Ribeye and 111g of avo before my workout at 5a. Worked out 545-645 then at 730 had 2 eggs (95g) and .9oz bacon ends and now at 9a I’m having coffee with 2oz HWC and no fake sweetener – huge change for me. Will be having another 2 oz HWC with coffee in a few hours and will add one packet…figured one a day isn’t going to hurt I hope! From what I’m reading most have said the splenda doesn’t knock them out of NK but since I’m not even there yet I don’t want to hinder progress. I’m REALLY hoping it takes just a few more days to see the strip change but if not that’s ok too – just keeps me motivated to keep on it! April is going to be the BEST. After I have my 2nd cup of coffee with HWC I will be a little over 1000 calories for the day already which seems like a lot since it’s just 9a but I do want to get majority of my prot/carbs in before later in the day. My goal is about 85-100g protein today which will be higher than a “normal” day as I think I will need to aim for like 75 to see continued weight loss…but today with my 1 hour class already done and my HR watch said I burned over 800 calories and tonight I’m doing p90x Plyometrics which is a 1 hour dvd that my guy and I do once a week. I always burn at least 800-900 calories so want to make sure I’m eating back some of my workout calories on top of my 1500-1800.

My goal weight is 150 and I’m between 5’6” – 5’7” and my wrist is 6.25”. I’m taking my mag and potss supplements and using glutamine powder in a recovery drink (usually with zero cal poweraid).

I’m excited to have another great day today. I really need to get day 2 under my belt. I can usually do 1 or 2 really good days then day 3 I crumble – not this time. SO, here we go! Happy Tuesday!

Amanda: I have always heard that drinking water is the best way to shed water weight. Potassium sure helps the kidneys to process. Sounds like you are doing everything right. If you like asparagus that tends to help with water retention as do cucumbers in moderation.

What you're describing sounds like a cyclical ketogenic diet, that combines higher carb days with intense workouts. I don't know if it usually includes intermittent fasting though.

Maybe I have you confused with another poster, but I thought I saw your stats as 5' 4" and 110 lbs. That would put you on the low end of normal weight. Are you looking to a ketogenic diet to maintain and switch to using fats for energy?

Google 'bullet proof coffee' for the site of the guy that invented it. His formula is coffee, MCT oil and grass fed butter. There are a lot of variations on that theme though around here. I drink coffee, HWC and CO.

Nutritional Ketosis. It is distinct from generic Low Carb for several reasons but the delineation between the two is that Low Carb means low enough to resolve carb intolerance issues. NK, on the other hand, is physiological based and carbs are kept below the level needed to transition to fat as a fuel source for the body. Although low carb and ketogenic are casually used interchangeably, if you notice most of the time LC docs, nutritionist and high information enthusiasts specify ketogenic when they intend to convey that they mean more than just a level of carbs that absolves carb intolerance issues.

From page 3 of The Art & Science of Low Carbohydrate Living:
What Does "Low Carbohydrate" Mean?

There are two ways to define the threshold below which you are eating a "low carbohydrate" diet. The first is defined by what you as an individual perceive - it is that level of carbohydrate intake (be it 25 grams per day or 125 grams per day) below which your signs and symptoms of carbohydrate intolerance resolve.
From page 4:
Defining 'Nutritional Ketosis'

The second way to define 'low carbohydrate' is physiologic - specifically that level below which there is a fundamental shift in your body's fuel homeostasis (i.e., energy regulation) away from glucose as a primary fuel. This shift is the adaptation of the body's hormonal set and inter-organ fuel exchange to allow most of your daily energy needs to be met by fat, either directly as fatty acids or indirectly by ketone bodies made from fat. This process, which is discussed more fully in Chapter 7, begins for most adults when total carbohydrate is restricted to less than 60 grams per day along with a moderate intake of protein.

I feel your pain.

Several years ago, at a different place, we replaced the old hot water heater that gave out with a fancy new one from Whirlpool. It had a circuit board brain so it had a lot of features that we would never use. Several months later when winter was almost over it got zapped by a bad storm. The only place to get the replacement circuit card was from the mfg in another state. We were without hot water for about 5 days. The mfg paid for shipping the new part and return shipping the zapped part and were nice enough but that was a tough 5 days. A few months later it got zapped again by a storm. It took about 2 days that time because I knew the deal and called them immediately.

NK doesn't fit well, really at all, with free days because the whole focus of NK is becoming keto-adapted and free days zap the process.

I doubt there is a healthy way to nuke the water weight Amanda. Maybe up your magnesium a little and your CO a little.

Great jobs on the progress everyone! Still teetering around 140.
Scared of the scale today as yesterday I went overboard on the food. Over 2000cal. Looked about like 200g of fat, 80g of protein, and 40g total carbs.

I'm staying at parents' place this week and they think I'm insane to be eating so much fat. Haha. So it goes. Wish me luck with their ridicule and tempting pantry.

Been there too. Last year our pump went out in the well. We got lucky though cause DH found a pump that had been returned to the store and we got it ridiculous cheep, like $50.00. But it took us a few days to get it going. Had to run my Daycare all day on Friday with no water and of all days the food inspector showed up. LOL. But it all worked out and luckily I keep hand sanitizer and jugs of water for just such emergencies. The food lady was very nice about it too.

Did you use a blender Cheryl? I haven't but I think that is the secret to its broad appeal.

I used my lil plastic food processor. It worked it up to a foam on top but I just didn't like the taste. My Blender is glass and I could just picture it exploding with hot coffee in it.
The taste is still tormenting me, I was afraid it was gonna ruin CO for me.

You are welcome

There's a ton of really great information on some of those podcasts. Even the ones with Jimmy Moore that are not LC friendly, like that guy Matt LaLonde, are very informative.

I listen to a lot of them, including non-LC podcasts but I don't think I've mentioned how I do that in several months.

I don't watch TV or movies other than commercial free stuff on the internet. I don't listen to live radio. I don't spend a lot of time listening to music and I don't listen to it very often.

I put the podcasts on my phone and use a bluetooth headset to listen to the podcasts when I am not doing something that requires attention. When I am driving I plug my phone into the truck's aux port and listen to them.

Well well well. I'm afraid I am going to have to report this to The Bullet Proof Executive for corporal punishment. You're lucky that caning never caught on in the US despite the fine example Singapore has set.

Sorry, some people might love it. No offense to them I wondered if I did it wrong. But, I find there are a lot of things I don't really like. I kinda eat the same things all the time. I still cannot find an artificial sweetener that I like either.

I read online that factors contributing to the retention of fluids include the following: Salt, Sugar, Inadequate protein, Insufficient amino acids or B-vitamins. We need salt and I am sure it's not sugar and idk about protein but maybe the b-vitamins? I'm not that knowledgeable about supplements, still learning but I take a b-100 complex and I take a b-12 1000 pill too.

other natural diuretics include the following:
Apple cider vinegar (maintains potassium levels)
Celery
Celery seed
Cranberry juice
Dandelion
Green tea
Dandelion leaf tea (also helps in detoxification and urinary tract infections)
Fennel
Juniper berries
Nettle
Parsley

So, maybe finding ways to see if any of these things fit into your WOE...

Diuretic Foods
Eating foods which have high water content is another way to increase the elimination of excess fluid retention. Other foods contain elements that boost kidney performance. You might want to try some of the following:

Artichokes
Asparagus
Brussels sprouts
Cabbage
Carrots
Cucumbers
Lettuce
Oats
Tomatoes (also aid metabolism)
Watermelon
