It could explain my mysterious headaches the last few weeks. They come and go which tracks, I think, with glucose being low, the body reacting, glucose returning to normal with the headache subsiding.

If I weren't such a coward about poking my finger I'd test to see. The awesome nature of phobias is their powerful resistance to reason.
Could be! I was actually a coward with poking my finger too, but it was surprisingly okay this morning... the noise the lancing thingy makes was worse than getting poked. I really didn't even feel that at all, I was surprised

I do remember you mentioning those headaches though, despite knowing you were getting enough sodium, and everything... it seems you may have found the culprit! I know headaches are a really common issue with hypoglycemia. I used to get them all the time when I wasn't LC and would go periods of time without eating after having refined carbs during the previous meal.

I'm gonna keep an eye on it. I think I'll try to spread my protein out a bit more during the day to see how that works.

Sounds like a plan! I hope the headaches clear up and you found what's been causing them I almost wonder if that could be my issue too, because while I do get SOME protein at all meals during the day... a majority of it is all at dinner time. Like for instance, yesterday: egg at breakfast, pepperoni and cheese at lunch, egg at night... all minor sources of protein. But at dinner? 8oz of ground meat. So that was almost my day's allotment right there in one meal. Maybe I should be spreading it out more too. I didn't know too little protein during a given window of time could also trigger hypoglycemia. I was thinking maybe my "less than 20 total carbs" was too strict or something, but it's where I do best it seems

Really, it is conjecture on my part about low protein and hypoglycemia. When you are vlc the glucose you need to survive is manufactured by the protein your body has available - ingested or from LBM. So, my thinking was, low protein may produce a hypoglycemic headache if conditions are right.

And my menu has been working out similar to yours. Most of my protein at one meal. Also most of my carbs were coming from one meal too.

You'll be alright Becky. I've been on an onion kick the last week or so. I don't eat much though - maybe a couple of ounces. But if your total carbs are right it won't matter much if you ate a sizable portion

Isn't it funny that when you get your paycheck, most of it is gone already. Got new glasses ordered today. And I did order new scales. Cheryl, got your kind. The reviews were so good. I looked at the poor ones first and then got to the good ones. Over 7000 of them. Sold. I also got a new food scale and a milk frother for my morning coffee. I also ordered some of the 1 oz med cups so I can measure my hwc better. I'm a happy camper. Rewarding day.

I was reading a rather long thread over on the JUDDD board yesterday (actually completely unrelated to EVCO, but they branched off as we're apt to do sometimes ) and they were saying that EVCO is thermogenic, and so it'll never be stored as fat regardless of what you do carb-wise... and because of that it doesn't need to be counted in your daily calorie total necessarily. I saw several JUDDD-ers on there talking about their success with eating a tablespoon of it with every meal WITHOUT counting it, and everyone saw losses like that... some even broke long stalls they were in at the time doing it.

So I guess my question is... considering JUDDD counts calories a lot more closely than we do (at least on down days especially) could this actually be true? And could this method work for NK, to where we'd still be okay eating the same amount of calories while SUBTRACTING the EVCO's calories from our totals? Because I always count it, and limit it because of my calorie allotment for the day. Or could it be that JUDDD-ers just aren't getting what NK/other LC plans consider an adequate amount of calories on a regular basis, and THAT'S why the increase in calories are helping them?

I'd love to think I could enjoy more EVCO and have it burn fat for me without counting it
I was over in JUDDDland for a couple years and many people found that they *did* have to count CO calories.

Some people could definitely get away with *not* counting them, but not everybody. And it seemed random...some people do JUDDD low-carb and some don't, some exercise, some are in menopause, some are diabetic, etc etc, and we couldn't really find a pattern.

This is Day 6 of NK for me and I was the exact same weight this morning as when I started, but I am feeling very good (I'm diabetic), love all the butter and cream cheese and am able to go several hours between meals. Yesterday I only had 2 meals and zero snacks...I got up at 7, had breakfast at 10, cleaned a house for 3 hours in the afternoon, and had dinner around 7 with no hungries or shakies at all.

I've tried low-carb, Kwasniewski's Optimal Diet, JUDDD, Fast 5, (always LC because of diabetes) etc etc over the last 2.5 years and have had spates of very good appetite suppression & lower blood sugar but eventually stall & regain (I can gain 3-4lbs overnight due to TOM or even humid weather, but it never goes away overnight! ). I hope this works out better, if the problem is I've never added quite enough fat, or have been eating too much protein? Or I cheated...have to be sure not to cheat this time around!

Lindy, I hope you like it as much as I do. I thought I would use the body % stuff a lot but I just love using it to weigh. It has a blue back light and you can see it w/o turning the light on. I love that cause my eyes are sensitive when I first get up. It is so cool. I am excited for you. It is also the only scale I have ever weighed on during the day. I like to see what I weigh before bed and then I guesstimate what it will be when I get up. I know, how pathetic?

What a great idea about the protein. My husband has terrible hypoglycemia. He started taking cinnamon capsules about 4 yrs ago and they help a lot. I mean a lot a lot!!! He also does a lot better since I cut the carbs out of his breakfast. I keep it mostly fat and protein and he doesn't have the awful drop in blood sugar.
The cinnamon has made his life so much better. When his blood sugar would drop before sometimes he would feel bad for the rest of the day. He never has those terrible days anymore.

Lindy,
Did you order you glasses thru Zenni?
I have a new pair on the way too. So excited. I used to go years without buying new glasses. Since I found Zenni I order a pair every 4 or 5 months.
My eyes aren't to bad so I can get a pair for 20 bucks.

Today was my semi-fast day. I saved most of my calories for dinner and had 3 strips of bacon, 2 eggs over easy, and a mug of tea with almond milk.

Last night I realized that the jeans I'm aiming to fit into as an interim goal are ones that fit me only 2 1/2 years ago. It was kind of discouraging to know I gained 20 lbs or so between 2010 and the end of 2012, when I started NK. At least now I'm losing weight and have my eating under control.

Never heard of Zenni. Wish I had so I wouldn't have had to drop $180. Ouch.

Later
Feeling a little ill right now. Cheryl, looked up Zenni and can't believe what I could have saved. Man, next time, huh?

Kinda blew it today, I had to leave early and missed breakfast, didn't eat till after 12 (bacon and eggs with coffee), then didn't get home till nearly 5pm and I felt crappy - I tested my Ketones and it barely registered so I tested my BS out of curiosity and it was 5.3.
So I had a bulletproof coffee and yoghurt/cream/nuts, waited an hour, now my ketones are in the middle but BS is exactly the same (which is good I guess)

Clarify this for me, if you hardly eat at all like I did today, shouldn't my ketones rise as I burn body fat? I understand my glucose levels probably rose due to glucogenisis, but I don't get why my ketone levels dropped
