How are you eating - what are you eating now in order to lose? I have been steadily putting on inches.
I'm basically on the same plan as before but lots more fats, protein, lots of green veggies, added oils, fats and butter - I feel much better this time

Weigh-in Apr 09, 2013

Weigh-in this morning ... 198.8 heh for a huge bounce. My scale has English comprehension issues because I was clear yesterday that a huge bounce would have been fine if I'd have broken the 195.x barrier

had a great NK day yesterday. when i got home from work my food was at like 2000 calories and right at 80/15/5 - i was stoked. i had a crazy hard workout that we do once a week for an hour and i usually burn 800-900 calories and afterwards had eggs and then after my shower and relaxing i had a LOT of cream cheese mixed up with stevia and then had some CO with cocoa powder in it with stevia and ate both and woke up this morning to a MUCH darker keto stick! I was STOKED. didn't get on the scale - too nervous since haven't used the bathroom in a few days so drinking some super dieter tea today to help that process along and will prob WI tomorrow morning. Started my morning with 1 hr jazzercise class and then went home and had coffee with 3oz HWC and 1 tbsp CO. SO delicious. Having tuna w/ avo today - prob have 1 can around 10a and another later today with coffee/HWC/CO in btwn. Hope everyone has a great day!

My calories are between 1600-1700. Maybe a little higher because I don't always count things like licking the spoon after scooping out co or like yesterday with the chicken drippings. Should I tighten up on that?

58-72g protein

I watched this video of Dr. Phinney yesterday: Dr. Steve Phinney on the subject of nutritional ketosis clarifies the protein issue..

Hi Cheryl,

Feel like a fat, horrible failure actually. Very down but I am trying like h=+= to get back to where I was. Am slowly starting to disbelieve this 'fat does not make you fat' thing.

Do my numbers look ok to you? Not sure what I weigh, from 126 to 130, 5'51/2" - 46yrs.

Maybe keep everything the same but drop calories to 1500-1600. How's your hunger levels at your current calorie level?

Morning all,
Just another great day in the neighborhood....with a 2 lb. LOSS. Yea Love this lifestyle. Such a joy to be doing something right for a change. On other threads I would ask What am I doing wrong? And they would say, drop the hwc, butter and cream cheese. ha They also said drop all Frankenfoods but they were right on that. But after I dropped them I still had not lost weight. Til now. So happy to be in the right place with you guys. Not only for the fun place and companionship but with the great advise, Darin. You're the bomb.

I have my moments when I think I'm hungry but mostly it's fine. I think I could do 1500-1600 and feel fine. I'm still trying to find the food combination that works best for me. Somedays I feel like I'm just snacking through the day but I don't think that's the best way to go about it. I need some set meals and times.

How long have you been doing NK.
I was at 1600 calories for a while and was hungry so I upped my calories for a few weeks the lowered them again. Now I swear I am stuffed at 1400 calories. My stomach has shrunk and after meals I feel plum uncomfortable. I never thought this was possible for me. I have always been a big eater. I am still surprised at what a small amount fills me up now. I do get hungrier the week before aunt flo visits.

I started NK just over 1 week ago.
I should have started TOM 2 weeks ago. So hormonal hunger??
I had my blood drawn yesterday and I'm not prego and I'm waiting to hear about my thyroid labs.
If I do feel hungry what do you think I should do? Drink more water? Eat a little more carbs? Fat? Ignore it?

I am not great at explaining but I will try to tell ya what I would do.
Ok your new to NK and it takes a good 4 weeks to really get into it. Then, I promise your hunger will reduce. So if your hungry now I would add some fat, but don't get upset if you add fat and don't see a weight loss on the scale. Just hang out and enjoy this WOE. You don't want to restrict calories too much and go around starving cause that sets you up for a binge, or to go off plan. So, I would not deprive myself. Especially just staring out.

You already lost 6 or 7 lbs. That's awesome.
After you get keto adapted you will see a reduction in appetite and hunger and you may lose without reducing calories very much.

Thanks Cheryl and Darin for your encouragement and suggestions.

I don't plan on going anywhere. If I wasn't doing NK I would be struggling with binging so i I know this is what I need/have to do. It's not hard for me to eat this way. Just need to keep planning and be patient.

Question, would you use any food as long as it fit into your numbers? A couple things I bought before I started this woe. Cottage cheese and a frozen atkins meal?

I'm not sure that set meal times are superior to a lot of small eating throughout the day. If you are eating at a deficit and LC I can't see how either way is better for weight loss. Unless there are some other conditions in play like, perhaps, wacky blood sugar levels.

Some tips to combat faux-hunger....

Don't miscellaneously peruse recipe threads/sites. If you need ideas for recipes, wait until you are about to eat or have just finished eaten.

Don't stare endlessly at your food log. Log your stuff and stop looking at the food you've listed.

If you are feeling hungry, but you shouldn't be because your calories are on track for the day, distract yourself with something to see if you really are/were hungry. Get up and clean something or take a walk or call a friend and chat. If you're still hungry after that then eat something.

Thanks Cheryl for asking this question and duh for Darin for not asking lol.

It does take 2 to 4 weeks to become keto-adapted so maintaining during that time frame is normal I think.

Hormonal stuff will impact weight. Essentially, weight loss/gain/stall is defined by hormonal issues.

So, Janette, I rescind my earlier advice about cutting calories a smidge and I think you should keep things the same for the time being. Particularly if there is any chance at all that it is a thyroid issue. Going too low on calories is hard on the thyroid. How long before you get your results back?

Don't eat carbs if you are hungry. Eat fat, fatty protein or maybe a little protein. Water or diet soda, if you drink it, even much on crushed ice (maybe, it isn't good for your teeth from what I heard).
