Alcohol inhibits gluconeogenesis. That is very interesting.

It is sort of a double edged sword for NK/LC. On the one hand it would help mitigate any excess protein conversion to glucose preventing depressed blood ketone levels. On the other hand, if your carbs are super low and you haven't yet produced enough glucose to run the few things that require it, it'd produce what sort of reaction?

Maybe an intense drunk feeling?

So an NK'r is a cheap date???

I've only had one batch of fat bombs that did not turn out. I used hwc, butter, coconut oil, cocoa, and liquid splenda. I was trying to make more of a milk chocolate, but when I froze the mixture a layer of butter separated. It was not good at all.

Now I make fat bombs with almond butter, coconut oil, cocoa, and liquid splenda.

I've seen quite a few posts on the reddit keto board about lowered alcohol tolerance and really bad hangovers. I don't drink often, but when I do I stick to hard liquor and only 1 shot.

Carbs: 11.3

How is that? I got home just now, checked my numbers and had to drink 3 oz. of cream with 20 grams of butter to get my numbers up to that . . .

i've actually been doing low carb for some time, i first tried it back in 2002 and lost about 20kgs, but the program i was on was low carb and low fat and i just couldnt keep it up, i started to feel unwell and went back to eating whatever and put all the weight back on. I decided it just didnt suit my metabolism.

fast forward to three years ago and my husband was diagnosed with type two diabetes, i decided to try low carb again for hiim after reading Dr Bernsteins diabetes book. He's now been doing it for 2 1/2 years and is pretty much cured, his diet included a lot more fat so i decided to revisit it for me

I was about 112kgs when i started, its been about a month and i'm down to 101 (just cant crack that 100 arrgggg!). i feel much better this time, i havent hit that wall of feeling unhealthy like i did last time and i'm getting more used to it, this will be a permanent life change

i've done so much research in the last three years into diabetes, statins and low carb i finally decided to bite the bullet and i'm going back to Uni in two weeks to get a diploma in nutritional medicine. It will be a big career change because i'm a chef even more funny, i'm a specialist pastry chef!...so i've spent half my life shoving cakes and pastries into people and i'll spend the second half telling them to stop

so thats me, my pet subject is statins and the cholesterol myth, yep really party girl thats me
Oh my Gosh Deb, you are describing me. I was on a doctor prescribed low carb / low fat diet that initially melted 50 pounds off my frame and I maintained until recently but I started to get really sick - back and forth between pneumonia and strep throat. I think it was because my fat intake was so low, almost nil.

How are you eating - what are you eating now in order to lose? I have been steadily putting on inches.

Food Log - Apr 8

My log for today:

1451 cals
124gr fat
73gr pro
9gr carb (net)

B: 1T CO, 2 eggs + 1 yolk w/15gr butter
L: 6oz homemade meatballs approx. 3oz ground chicken + 3oz ground beef, 1/4 cup cooked celery & w/18gr butter
D: 1T CO, 7oz chicken thigh w/skin, 100gr spaghetti squash

May increase my veg at dinner.
Seems like way too much fat, any opinions?

Morning weigh in: 161.6 lbs. Ugh!

I realize that 161.6 and 161.4 are virtually the same thing, and it's probably fluid from staying up late and being stressed at the audition yesterday evening (call time: 6 p.m. left there: 9:30 p.m.!!!!!) Then I was over-excited (because it went well) and couldn't sleep until very late, then had to get up early to see one of my boys off, now I'm 'hung over', headachey, grumpy . . . a virtual joy to be around.

Maybe I'll just go back to bed after I walk the dog.

I'm enjoying my new digital food scale -- figured out how to work the 'tare' feature, so I'm rockin and rollin. Maybe now I'll be able to find my magic combination that will melt those last 10 lbs. away. Maybe it's only 5 lbs? I'm close, though.

Yeah, when I do not get enough sleep the scale always bumps up for me too Donna.

That's great news that the audition went well! Good luck!

Hi there Welcome to our thread

There is no induction with NK. Eat moderate protein, keep total carbs under 50g and eat non-PUFA fat for the rest. Check the intro post on the first page for getting started with NK.

Hello all,
I've been keeping up with the thread but haven't posted in a while. I stayed at my parents' house the past week and I stayed strong the whole time! Haven't weighed in a while but I was getting a little obsessive with that anyway. Point is, I'm feeling great, hunger is subsiding, and I'm going in my 4th week. I think things are finally clicking into place.

Does anyone on here hike? I'm planning a 2-3 week hiking trip this summer and want to stay in NK. Any thoughts or suggestions on what to put in my pack would be great. I'm thinking loads of macademia nuts, coconut oil, and jerkey.

What else is okay at room temp and high-calorie? Hmmm...

Happy Monday to you all!

Someone posted a question about camping in the Lobby. You might find some good ideas there that you can alter to fit hiking:

Camping?

I wouldn't worry about ratios while you are on the trip. Just keep carbs as low as possible and try to get in plenty of fat. Take CO for sure. As long as you are diligent about NK between now and then you should whip everyone else on staying power while hiking.

Me too. I am jumping up in the morning just to weigh.
You too... 195.? is on the way.

I have been tired for a few days, I usually feel so good. (Dh says I was getting cranky but I do not receive that
It just dawned on me that I have been busy the last couple of days and have forgotten to do my broth.
Wonder if it is my broth I been missing?

Low sodium will make you feel fatigued. Pesky guys can account for the crankiness

Gawd. Yeah, I so wanted to break 195.x even if I bounced 10 pounds up the next day heh. Got my fingers crossed for tomorrow
