The only category where statins do help is people with existing CHD, but make sure he's asking coenzyme Q10 as well

And yeah, the low fat part is a crock of sh#%, put him on low carb, the saturated fat protects arteries

my GP has been pushing statins for my husband "just in case" as well, i flatly refuse - the FDA has issued warning regarding the use of statins with diabetics because it can raise your blood sugar

my argument is why would you proscribe a drug that can exacerbate an existing condition to prevent a condition that he doesn't have? it makes no sense

Really? Sheesh...that makes it all the more crazy that it's normal practice to prescribe them for diabetics. I'll pass along the info to my mom. FWIW, she's been on statins for 10+ years with seemingly no side effects. She's also been low-carbing for 2 years and has lost 50 lbs and cut her insulin dramatically. But she does have odd spells where she gets exhaustion, chills, and has to go to bed in a very warm room to sleep to recover. Her doctor has no idea why this happens, so I wonder if it's related. Next time it happens I'm planning to check her ketones, just in case it's a blood-sugar thing.

my fave thing to do is make melted coconut oil, mix the cocoa powder, add stevia then use it to coat the coconut and put in fridge for little coconut haystacks...but usually i just stir up and eat with a spoon LOL...reminds me of an almond joy! yum.

Thinking will do a FF today. Started morning with 3 oz HWC in coffee with some stevia drops. Not hungry for anything else and have LOTS to do today so don't really wanna even mess with figuring out foods and just doing FF is much easier sometimes lol...I will prob have a little more protein than normal but keeping calories low, probably about 1400 for the day and maybe a few eggs in there for that...or some tuna. Anyway, didn't WI this morning...kinda wanna see if I can break the scale habit and no reason to really WI today. Hope everyone has a great Sun!!

Weigh-in Apr 07, 2013

Weigh-in this morning ... 197.7 for a bounce I've let my calories creep back up so I am going to push them back down a little. My average the last 3 days is close to maintenance for my current weight using the 30kCal/kg formula. Anyway, I think the calorie creep is why I'm bouncing a little. We'll see how that pans out over the next several days.

Your such a good example to know what to try to fix it. I just get frustrated and start to think I guess this doesn't work for me.

Weigh in: 161.4 lbs., the same as all week.

I got my digital food scale yesterday, so today I'm going to weigh things if possible -- my son's band is playing at Fest For All downtown, noon - 3 p.m., and then I have an audition tonight at 6 p.m. (just got notice LAST NIGHT, eek! Learning lines . . .), so it might be a crazy day. I take that back, I KNOW it will be a crazy day.

But if I don't get to weigh everything today, I know I can do it tomorrow.

I made chicken salad, but I have no way of measuring it out now because I didn't divide up portions or weigh anything when I made it yesterday (didn't have scale yet.)

But, I'm on my way . . .

Thank you

But, in that regard, I have a leg up on everyone else in the thread I think. I'd gotten down to 186 using NK. I'd been stalled at 205 for months and months when I found NK. I'd even put on about 10 pounds from back sliding on LC which is how I ended up back at LCF after a hiatus during that stall. Fully back on LC I dropped quickly back to 205. Then I started figuring out and following NK and finally, OMG!!! finally, broke the 205 barrier. It took me a few weeks to break into Onederland which I hadn't seen since the 80's I think.

Then it all sort of clicked and I trended downwards quickly reaching 186.

I went off plan to quit smoking and gained about 30 friggin pounds I think. I threw in the towel on not smoking because I'd rather be skinny and unhealthy than a fat non-smoker. That 30 pounds was interesting because on a podcast with Julia Ross she mentioned that people that abstain from an addiction typically put on 30 pounds in a very short period of time.

Anyway, nothing beats first hand experience so there isn't anything theoretical about NK for me. I know it works and I know if it isn't working then there is something about what I'm doing that is interfering with the process, leaving aside acute stressors that come up (life happens type stuff).

I get into that mindset sometimes, and have to remind myself that if the diet was not working I would still weigh 200 lbs. It is hard when one gets stuck for a few weeks or the scale keeps bouncing up.

I'm going to try for a 500 calorie day to see if I can get back into calorie restriction. I think I could handle the 5:2 plan better than alternate up/down days like JUDDD.

If I eat 1800 calories on the up days, my calories will average out to 1400 per day. I was going for that number anyway but I like the idea of only restricting calories 2 days a week, plus CR is supposed to have health benefits that go beyond weight loss.

I need to remember these things. I'm at 131 and that's kind of my 'stuck' wt. I've gotten below for a few minutes but haven't stayed below that. And when I gain it seems possible to get back to 131. Just did it in less than a week. But I really want to get to 125. I don't know if my body prefers it here or maybe I just need to be patient, stick to the plan and enjoy the MANY other benefits this woe bring!
