Protocol for vacation diet changes

Hello Everyone,

I thought this question may help others as well. I'm doing well, and starting to shed a tad.

Going on a tropical vacation. I will continue to eat healthy, as I always have, however I would like to enjoy a pina colada here and there. Its the Caribbean!

How do I go about this without sabotaging my progress? I will be gone for a week.

If I'm going to consume a sugary drink here and there, that will raise my blood sugar and then my insulin. Correct?

In which case, I should stay low carb, but also go low fat that day, so my doesn't hold/store fat. Does this sound like the appropriate approach?

I don't want top bloat with water weight gain, from a couple of Coladas, either.

All other alcoholic beverages in moderation will be no sugar added.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks

Becky did pretty good on her trip to PR a month or so ago. I think she just enjoyed the fruity drinks in moderation but not teetotaleresque and ate more or less LC as best as she could without letting LC get in the way of enjoying her vacation with her family.

Is it possible to get a sugar-free pina colada? I would think the pineapple juice would add enough sweetness without additional sugar.

Piña Coladas have cream of coconut, which is a canned product with tons of sugar. It's not just the pineapples.

normally if you have been eating really reduced carbs and then take in a fair amount of carbs, like you seem to be proposing, you will regain whatever water weight you initially lost low carbing, till you go through that process to lose it again. I call that the Atkin's Loan. it's not bloating, it's just your normal metabolism.

I have only lost a couple of pounds and it was never initial water weight. Im only trying to lose about 10 lbs (I wish all fat :-))

Im thrilled after 2 months finally able to drop a whopping 2 lbs, which is why I don't want to gain it back in mid vacation.

I just wanted to know the chemistry. If its higher carb/sugar, it should be lower fat as well. My liver can only do one or the other at once, and it will do alcohol/sugar first.

Thankfully I will be active, and hopefully burn off most of the sugars I am taking in.

I wish there was a splenda brand pina colada mix!

It is possible that a sudden influx of sugar (as you are proposing) may may you feel ill.

Yes, that happens to me when I eat simple carbs after being in ketosis for a while.

There are SF and LC piña colada mixes and recipes around. Baja Bob's makes a mix, and there are several recipes floating around Google.

I find that any carbs/sugars after vigorous exercise are much less damaging. I believe this is because the glycogen stores need refilled, so the sugar is directly converted into glycogen instead of stored as fat.

In general, I would just have lots of fun, stay active, throw in some Intermittent Fasting, and eat as low carb as possible.

I'm going to Gran Canaria in Juni and I plan on doing exactly this because the fruit there tastes so much better than it does here in northern Europe! I also don't want to come back bloated and heavier.
