Um.. make sure you are near a bathroom if you accidentally buy almond butter with added flax seed in it.

Looks like I'll be replenishing electrolytes the rest of the night.

Hi everybody!!
Catching up with y'all. Howdy to the new folks. So glad to meet ya.

Weight was the same this morning. Not an ounce of change in 3 days. That's ok. Still being a good girl. It'll start moving again.

Tomorrow is my weekly weigh in. Hoping for a nice number.

I think I'm going to take measurements too. Sometimes the scale doesn't tell the whole story. And for April, I'm going to TRY not to weigh all month. The daily fluctuations drive me a little crazy. As Jason Seib says in The Paleo Coach, "Strive for healthy and being hot will be a side effect."

Thanks for checking on me, Cheryl!! All is well. Still behaving myself and haven't fallen off the fat wagon. Lol!

Clueless: At Trader Joe's on the bottom soup/broth shelf (usually) in a box is condensed chicken broth in 12 small tubes. Open one, add hot water, and you've got a cup of chicken broth. Low sodium so you can add lots of good sea salt (which they sell there too). Keeps good in the cupboard, better than a half can left open in fridge. Great in our RV. Also they have lots of bagged nuts. I like to buy pieces of nuts, easier on my teeth and I tend to eat less. I mix pecan, almond, and cashews in pieces in a bowl on the bar to snack from. Once I found macadamia pieces, but not recently. Very good 80%? hamburger by the pound.

They have this great little package of uncured bacon "ends and pieces" or something like that...in a square-ish soft package...bought it today and it is cheap and delish!! Thick bacon strips and pieces! Also they carry Kerry unsalted which not every place around me does. :-)

Ooops! I just started my journal a day or so ago, and already I'm forgetting whether or not I posted my dailies here or not... I don't want to fall out of that. I'm loving it here!

Had a MUCH better day sodium-wise today. I wonder if it is possible that my body needs under 2000mg per day to function right. My BP I'm not so worried about, because I used to eat MUCH more salt than I do now and even then I was in pre-hypertension... but it's been going down slowly over time with the weight loss and everything. But the water retention is pretty obvious, and I notice that even when I have just over 1000mg I don't even start to get those headachey induction flu sort of symptoms a lot of other people get... how strange!

My totals for the day:

1483 calories, 117g fat, 75g protein, 19g total carbs, 1151mg sodium, 8g sugar

73% Fat | 22% Protein | 5% Carbs

You better just give that scale to your Sailor and tell him to put it away for safe keeping.
And Wow, your weight has a high range of fluctuations, 3 or 4 lbs in a day!
But That's a big ole loss!

Yes, water weight! Strange, since I had about 100 grams of sugar yesterday-- I ate 3 flavored Chobani yogurts topped with TONS of almond butter with added flax seeds. I am honestly shocked that I dropped weight, I was expecting a gain since I'm obviously out of ketosis and holding onto water at this point..

In the back of my mind, I'm wondering if the running I've been ramping up lately has something to do with the fact I seem way more tolerant to carbs lately?

Also oddly enough, I am not at all hungry this morning. Usually by this point I've had coffee, bouillon with cream, and bacon and eggs. Not so hungry though, bringing the chicken broth with my on the commute to school, and an ounce of macadamia nuts to get me through the day before I get home at 6:30 this evening.

We will see.

Kudos to all that had losses today!

Tracked my calories and grams yesterday.

192 grams of fat
37 grams of carbs
97 grams of protein

2147 calories.

Drank 40 0z water and I know this needs to go up.

Had my potassium pills and planning on getting new Mag vitamins at the health store.

Continued to read great information on this woe. Listened to the recommended podcasts and tips for the carb flu. Thanks all for the support.

Off to work!

I thought you'd mentioned it before but now I can't find the post if you did. Do you take BP meds? You have to be careful about potassium with those meds. I bring that up because with LC you have to be careful about not getting enough sodium. When you don't get enough sodium your body sacrifices potassium to conserve the sodium it does have. If you don't have enough dietary potassium it will get it from lean body mass like muscle tissue.

Have you read the Performance book Casey? A person in another thread doing Iron Man told me that the Performance book endorsed carbs like those glucose packets that marathon runners use.

Nope, I don't take any BP meds... just Levothyroxine (ugh, and I'm not actually sure if that pill actually CONTAINS sodium or not given the name) and Nuvaring. My doctor has been letting me try to control my BP on my own for now, and if it started to go down instead of up he'd let me forego the medicine thankfully.

I'm not sure what's going on with me honestly! I find that if I have more than 2000mg of sodium a day I'll start retaining water like crazy... it's got to be the sodium, because it's happened every time I've had higher sodium days and it seems to begin clearing up right after I drop it back down to the 1000-something range.

Right now I'm taking one 99mg potassium supplement, just to help out with my normal diet because I figured I may need some. I don't eat REALLY potassium rich foods very often at all (sometimes, rarely, avocadoes... but never bananas or coconut water) so it seems like I may be lacking a bit. It'll be a bit before I can actually see someone to run labs for me though, so this is all careful speculation on my part mostly... that and I saw people on here recommending I take magnesium, potassium, and calcium for women's issues as well

Congrats! I hope the scale keeps inching downward for you.

My food log for yesterday:
Breakfast - coffee with coconut oil & almond milk
Lunch - 1 slice diet wheat bread with peanut butter & bacon, black coffee
Snack - roasted almonds and yes, more coffee
Dinner - leftover LC deep dish pizza
Snack - cocoa & almond butter fat bomb
1683 calories, 135 g fat, 89 g protein, 28 g carbs, 11 g fiber.

I'm not very hungry this morning. It's almost 10 am and I've only had coffee with hwc. I'm going to make tuna and egg salad for lunch, maybe with a side of bacon.

Hmmmm.....I don't remember reading that. I'll go back and check. I've highlighted and underlined that book to death.

Kent Altena at Atkins Diet Geek is a marathoner and the only thing he uses is electrolytes. No GU or anything. He's always more than happy to answer questions too. Nice guy. Just google his blog or look him up on FB.

Congrats on all the losses, y'all! One time it's actually appropriate to be happy for someone losing something. Hehehe
