I don't put much butter or bacon grease in it usually. Maybe 15g of butter and 20g of bacon grease. I can tell it is there because of the texture but it doesn't seem to affect the flavor a lot. I do it to push up fat and calories. The jalapeno is really good in it.

I think I am gonna try it for lunch without the GB and add jalapenos and butter and HWC. It is better with the GB but I am looking for ways to cut protein a tad. Do you use fresh jalapenos?
Man, that soup is easy too.

Yes but I bet a can of chopped green chilies would be good if you don't have fresh on hand.

Super easy and so quick to throw together

Funny you posted your soup, red, because I made it yesterday and added rotel. I used the bacon grease to saute the cabbage for a while, then added everything else and simmered for an hour. I had some today and it rocked my world! The smokiness from the bacon gave it such depth.

Listen to me. Waxing poetic over bacon grease. LOL.

Today was kind of a sodium nightmare for me unfortunately since I'm pretty sensitive to it, so I'll probably be paying for it tomorrow... but man was that salad good

Totals for the day:

B - 3 egg omelette with sausage and american cheese
L - diet root beer with 1T of HWC
D - two bunless sliders with mayo, and two plates of salad from the salad bar with bacon, egg, black olives, cheese, a little touch of sunflower seeds, and ranch dressing
S - NONE! Well, except my Braggs ACV tonics I've been mixing up but they're zero cal

Hi

My day yesterday was my first NK day so if I’ve made some mistakes I will claim ‘newbie excuse’.

Breakfast: Coffee with 2 tbsp of double cream – some left over lamb with mayonnaise.

Lunch: Coffee with 1 tbsp of double cream – 2oz of mature cheddar.

Dinner: 100g of ground beef made up with a squirt of tom puree, sprinkle of garlic powder, a few herbs and a little onion. 1 cup of broccoli and some green beans. I then poured over 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil infused with basil (so good).

Snack before bed was 1oz of cheese with a little mayo spread on it.

I had a cup of tea with a splash of semi-skimmed milk and I think this made my insulin spike as I was craving a little after it. I thought it may be the veg.

Altogether I think I did ok, but I am open to suggestions and comments please. I only got hungry after I ate the veg and or the milk. Advice?

I think my ratios were: 90gs of protein, 12gs of carbs (too low?) and 138gs of fat. Approx 1636 in calories (let me know if I’m wrong).

Hope you all have a good day.

Michelle

Looks like you had a good day.
It's good that you already notice what causes you to have cravings.

Thanks Cheryl

I've been low carb for a while (with horrible crashes) and know what knocks me off my perch. I'm thinking of buying the coconut milk to have in my tea as I do love at least 1 cup a day or I might have it before I go to sleep as it does not affect me at all.

Thanks for the response. x

I haven't tried the coconut milk yet.
Let me know how you like it if you try it.
I used to put HWC in my coffee ( I was always a creamer and sugar coffee drinker) I have finally gotten to where I love it black or with CO. I never thought it would happen but I love it.

I didn't like coconut milk at all :'(

But I like almond milk so I use it when I need a CO milk alternative. I haven't tried it in coffee but I bet it is good. I have used it in shakes and it is good.

I had three bites of matzah last night. I was so scared it would throw me out of ketosis that I checked them last night AND this morning. 1.1this morning. I kept my fat and protein a little lower than normal.
56grams protein
25net carbs

I don't really keep up with percentages, but didn't add any fat yesterday. I think I dodged a bullet

Nah, I just goofed up because I was too weak to say no to my father who wanted to dine out TWICE in one day unfortunately

I'm super sensitive to sodium and have high blood pressure, so I try to watch it. I know whenever I go over 2000mg for the day, I'm going to see water retention. Makes it REALLY hard to dine out sometimes! Bah humbug

I was up a whole pound this morning too, at 160. I kind of prepared myself for it, but it's still a bummer to see Hopefully I'll be better to resist next time now!

Sometimes I swear something's not quite right with my body, I don't know I went through and read that whole article about people praising salt left and right and... yeah, my kidneys don't seem to filter out salt any better on NK than they did before. Like I said, if I go too far above 2000mg for the day I know I'll see water weight creeping back on. If I stay below pretty regularly and keep my other levels where they should be, I'll usually either maintain or lose slowly.

I wonder what's going on there

Health conditions will make a difference on what is best for you for sodium. Meds too since they may change how your body handles sodium.

hi, good morning all! i love reading over the posts btwn the last time i checked in. so many positive posts and replies! i'm feeling pretty good today! decided to get over my obsession with the scale for a bit and just giving myself time to focus on nutrition and fitness. i've said this before and failed but this time i really want to break myself from letting the scale dictate what/how i eat and it causing me so much stress! i started my morning with 4 eggs (they were kinda small, we buy from a local farmer) fried in 1 tbsp butter and ice water. Went to my morning dance cardio class, has some light strength training and stretching and usually burn 500-600 calories an hour. I just LOVE going. about 3 hours after meal 1 I ate 3 hard-boiled eggs with mustard and 2 tbsp mayo. YUM, so good. feeling content and going to drink some super dieters tea then LOTS of water today. I'm going to do some weight work tonight and prob run about 20 mins on treadill. food will probably hit like 2000 calories with hopefully about 800 burned. I'm hoping my focus on improving my fitness and staying track with food choices will help me stop going up and down on the scale! I so badly want to hit my goal weight for my birthday 4/20! My goal is to fit a size 8 pant. A few birthdays ago I was size 22 but should have been wearing a 24 as the 22s were getting SO tight but I refused to buy 24s. Glad I did! I love eating low carb so there is no reason not to hit my goal! I hope everyone has a FAB day!! <3

Good question reddarin. I put my info on cron-o-meter and it gives me the answers. LOL.

I've had a bad start today. I had my coffee with double cream and 2 slices of bacon for breakfast. I then had some pork belly and mayo, but developed sugar cravings. I wonder if I had too much protein? I gave in, unfortuantley, and ate around 8 biscuits and 2 slices of bread and peanut butter. I had no cravings yesterday

I find that if I eat too much in the morning I want to binge. I wonder why this is?

Does the urge to binge only happen if you eat solid food? You might try bullet proof coffee/tea for morning calories. It could be a hormonal thing. Most people experience a spike in cortisol when they wake up for a half hour to an hour (which I didn't know about till just now when I googled the dawn phenomenon).

There are some supplements that might help you. Google 'jimmy moore julia ross carb' for a podcast with Dr. Ross.

It doesn't look like too much protein but protein can cause an insulin response. The supplements Dr. Ross talks about can take care of the carb cravings.

Have you read Wheat Belly? Being wheat-free can make LC much much much easier to be cheat-free.

I went LC, but not wheat-free, in June of 2011. I lasted a few weeks and went on a carb binge for about 6 weeks. I read Wheat Belly and restarted LC in August of 2011 at 265 pounds. The thing is, when I went LC in June from day one I was thinking of how I could eat my french bread and stay LC. Or have sausage gravy and a biscuit and still be reasonably low carb. Even though I knew that I would only be low carb in name only I still was fixated on working wheat back into what I was eating. But when I restarted in August I restarted wheat-free and it made all the difference in the world. Even when I considered cheating I was so put off by how bad wheat was for my health that I could get past the carb cravings because of the headaches, heartburn, joint pain and all the rest that eating wheat did to me.

Yeah meds wise I'm only on Synthroid (which I'm trying DESPERATELY to get off of in favor of NDT for my thyroid) and Nuvaring (for my PCOS) but I'm pretty sure Levothyroxine has something to do with sodium? The name of it anyway, since it's Levothyroxine Sodium... I'm guessing maybe that's doing something to my body, although I'm unsure of how much sodium could actually be in there if it's a type my body can absorb and use in the same way as sodium from foods.

Whatever the issue is, it really bums me out because I love salt I was hoping maybe as I continued on with NK I'd slowly be able to consume more without that weight retention problem, but no dice so far it seems!

I’ve been avidly researching all day and it looks like I could fit into the ‘dawn phenomenon’ category.

I’m really upset by this slip-up as it’s only my second day at this. I felt so good yesterday; full of energy and no cravings. I’ve been low-carbing for a long time now and know the difference between true hunger and cravings and today was a craving.

I've read 'wheat belly' and lots of books on low-carb eating. I'm at the stage where I know what to do, it's the tweaking that's the problem and I think you've just helped me find another tweak I need to implement.

Thanks for your input reddarin, it’s appreciated.

You can do it! Clothes goals are more realistic than scale goals I think. You can lose inches and barely see any change on the scale

Hi all !

I would love to join this woe and thread. I calculated my numbers and to get to 140 lbs. I found the following information.

2227 total calories.
205 grams of Fat/95gramsprotein/120grams of carbs

Percentages 77/17/5

My question is do I need a 500 calorie subtraction to lose weight or just follow the number 2227 which is the normal calories for someone weighing in at 140.

I weigh 165 right now and would like to embrace the benefits of this way of eating for a lifetime.

I am purchasing the book.
Reading the daily menus.
Selecting a food tracking site with phone app.

Do I need to buy they meter and sticks. I can do that in April if that is so important but not until next payday.

I have a daily vitamin that I take, 1/4 lite salt in water for 350mg of potassium.

I want to say thank you for all the vets that have taken the time to write menus and grocery lists. The wisdom to take the time to share your insights doesn't go unnoticed.

I am open to suggestions and insights if you have any.

Thanks!
