I hope I did this right, but here's my logs for the day:

1477 calories, 125g fat, 72g protein, 28g total carbs, 2398mg sodium, 5g sugar

75% - fat
18% - protein
7% - carbs

Those are about right anyway... my original numbers wound up totaling to 102%, but maybe some of the nutritional info is wrong on the website I use to track stuff? Who knows, but close enough for me!
Hi Welcome to our thread

Congrats!!!

Bear with me.
(150/2.2)*1.5 is that( 150 divided by 2.2) then multiply by 1.5 ?
This being so 140 divided by 2.2=66 x1.5 = 99
Therefore I should have 99g protein plus fat and carbs less than 50
Am I correct?
Hi Welcome to our thread

(140/2.2)*1.5 = ~95g of protein. Total carbs less than 50g and maybe a lot less depending on you. The rest of your calories from sat/mono fats.

I HATE bounce backs. I do realize weight loss isn't linear but going up 1.7 pounds overnight sucks whether it's because of water or not.

Ok, I'll stop ranting. Just needed to vent. I did eat more protein than usual yesterday and a good dose of sodium and not enough water. I'm sure it'll go back down.

TGIF! Have a great day.

I'd like to believe that just like other NK numbers, this isnt absolute and may be different for everyone, just like protein, and caloric requirements.

The scale went down again! 1 lb this time, so I'm at 190.2....I'm feeling like I may still whoosh a bit more though. Keeping my fingers crossed! Congrats Cheryl, Lisa, Casey, Kate and everyone else on your losses

Protein takes a while to digest and I bet extra water is retained while the process is ongoing particularly if there was a spike in intake.

I forgot to weigh myself before eating breakfast so that will have to wait until tomorrow. I got a new electric percolator because my Keurig bit the dust, and I'm enjoying drinking black coffee again.

You are right where I was last week. I bet you will see the scale below 190 in another week or so, if not sooner.

Without a doubt there is variance per individual but from what Phinney said it is probably a very small variance like 10g and not necessarily in the higher direction. That is why I think that he uses 50g as the line to kick off other NK related metabolic processes while giving the caveat that it might be much lower for any given individual.

Red, sometimes I think if people dispute your answers to their questions directed at you, they should write to Phinney and/or Volek and get an answer straight from the source.

Yay!! Awesome. Doing the happy dance!

Red,
I like the way you think so I'm going to go with fluid retention as to why the scale was so rude today. This kind of insubordinance from it shall not be tolerated!!

Absolutely, i also think that some people require under 20, others are ok at 40, and some people maybe have to be under 10... it's annoying!

I don't mind newbie NK questions because NK is different from Atkins and LC but if you've read the A&S book and listened to the podcasts with Phinney you already have the same information I have.

Warning: rambling ahead! Looking over my food logs, I noticed that I'm averaging 1500 calories a day over the last week, up from my usual average of 1400. I was a little high on protein a couple days but it averaged out to 76 g a day.

It's interesting that I upped calories and lost weight, maybe my metabolism needed a little boost. I seem to have more energy too. NK is simply amazing.
I've been slacking off on exercise, but the other night I was eager to go out for my evening walk - my body was pushing me to get out and move. The neighborhood is hilly, so this was more strenuous than just a casual stroll. I'm just glad the walk home is all downhill.

Hi all! I'm so loving this forum and reading everyone's posts!

My employer big loser contest - our team was in first but dropped to 2nd. oh well, lol...it was worth a shot! I'm actually kinda ready for it to end so I can stop focusing on the scale! I'm ready to WI once/week and focus on fitness and learning to eat NK consistently!

Yesterday and today took the days "off" from tracking so eating NK foods but not measuring or tracking so weight will be up, didn't even WI this morning. I now have 4 solid days before next WI. My plan is to eat meat and eggs only for Sat/Sun then Mon/Tues doing fat fast to ensure I'm back on track to hopefully see a small loss on Wed morning. After Wed only one more WI, yay! Then like I said it's on to focusing on tracking food, better understanding NK and FITNESS goals! WOOOT!

I'm feeling pretty decent today and full LOL...hitting the gym tonight to run and doing some strength training. Tomorrow I will be doing jazzer cise and goal is to finish 3 classes! I just love it so it's fun and keeps me on point for the weekend.

Hoping everyone rockin it out today! Thanks for reading!

Woo! Nice! Love the concept of eating more and feeling better while losing weight at the same time! Such a better life than when I followed other plans that didn't limit food groups...was a hungry B all the time LOL!

The Art & Science of Low Carbohydrate Living by Phinney/Volek is the book I was specifically referring to but there is another one that you might be more interested in that is exercise and sports enthusiasts oriented - The Art & Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance.

The Living book was written for health care professionals and high information LC consumers.

The Performance book was written for the athletic community in response to demand from them after they knew about the soon to be published Living book. I haven't read it since I have .001 interest in being an athlete of any sort lol. But I know the formula it uses is based on lean body mass and body fat % rather than height/weight. It covers testing blood ketones (test strips are expensive). So if you are interested in maximizing your gym results and really into fitness this might be a better book for you. Most exercise enthusiast regard it highly although I have seen a post or two around LCF that felt it did not answer questions very completely. YMMV.

The podcasts:

Google 'jimmy moore long term stalls phinney'.

Google 'jimmy moore dr phinney art science' - this is from when the Living book was released. He didn't do one when the Performance book was released. Which is kind of surprising because Jimmy Moore based his approach to NK off of the Performance book.

Volek did a podcast with Jimmy Moore too but it wasn't about NK in particular.

Google 'jimmy moore volek fat'.

I just finished the best lunch I've had for a long time. I had a huge piece of homemade tuna loaf drenched in melted butter and lemon juice. Delicious! Getting back to NK is easier than I thought it would be...foodwise. I'm not weighing myself til after shark week starts on Sunday.

Just had a REALLY good workout at the gym.. I know I've pushed myself when I feel drunk & like I need to throw up afterward. Haven't noticed a decrease in performance since I got back strict into NK on Tuesday.. which is funny cause I definitely felt a tinge of LC flu Wednesday and yesterday. I did run a couple miles yesterday (Chi running method) with no struggle, so maybe my body is getting used to running on LC..

One thing I really dislike about lifting weights in the inevitable heart burn I get midway through my session. What the heck?

Hi Red, Can you describe these other metabolic processes. I am sure the other newbies probably want to know to. I have read the books too and don't recall it being mentioned.

I can quote myself if that helps:
