I wonder if I have a muscle spasm in my back. My left side towards the bottom and under my ribcage has been hurting for the last couple of days. Deep breaths and coughing make it hurt worse but the pain is a pretty steady throb.

No, I don't think I've lifted anything particularly heavy. The really awful headaches happened before the pain and are still happening. Yesterday for several hours I had another really bad headache. I have only had a headache this bad a few times in the year and a half since I quit eating wheat. Very strange.

Is it worse at a particular time of day, morning or night?

The headaches have an ebb and flow and I've taken naproxen sodium for them the last couple of days. The pain has been pretty dang steady since it started but deep breaths, movement, laying the wrong way and coughing ramps up the pain.

We can add sneezing to the list of 'what causes acute intense pain'.

Thank you

Hey Cheryl, you were talking about being eager to leap out of bed and weigh yourself. This morning I had one of those waking dreams but it was about weighing myself and it was nightmarish lol.

Thanks. From how you described your pain I doubt mine is even touching that level. How is your pain?

Hi all. Big thanks to Reddarin and the others who posted the meat of the A&S!
I had beed listening to interviews with Phinney and finally ordered the book because there just wasn't enough detail on protein & calorie recommendations, etc. I also ordered a meter and strips. The strips came yesterday, the meter today... and the book won't get here until the 16th! sigh.
Anyway, I just tested and my ketones are 3.6! Yay! Now I won't need to test for a week.
Based on the info you all posted, I had already dialed my protein back somewhat. I just read the post about increasing salt yesterday. I look forward to getting the book as I am sure I have only scratched the surface of what has been posted. I wish I could find the first thread I was reading where you posted quite a bit of info from the book.
Thanks again.

It's mostly stiffness in my back now and mostly when I've just gotten out of bed in the morning or during the night to use the washroom. A shower in the morning seems to help and then I stretch some. It's gone from 9/10 bad on the first day to 4/10 only now. 10 being the most pain obviously

It doesn't seem to spasm crazily anymore

Well, that is the rub right there. The Living book is informational rather than proscriptive. I haven't read the Performance book but it is apparently silent on the issue of calories because I've never had one of the fans of that book quote anything regarding calories, which is suspicious in and of itself, yet I've received a lot of vindictive petty attacks over my view about draconian calorie restrictions. Without exception, I think, the counter argument has always been an ad hominem about me rather than what Phinney/Volek plainly said about caloric expenditure on page 207 of the Living book.

He does make some clear statements about what NK is: protein in the 1.5 to 2.0g per kg range and total carbs 50 or less with fat being the balance of calories.

Phinney mentioned that he is working on something that should be out this year. I hope that it will be something to solidify and clarify what and how he defines NK as a way of eating including some defined guidelines about calories and calorie deficits.

I look forward to hearing what you think about the book

If you can recall a particular phrase you might be able to search the NK forum for it. Use the 'Search This Forum' thing and select 'show posts' radio button instead of the default 'show threads'.

Thanks for the welcome!! I was down 1 lb this morning too...very pleased! I decided to go easy on the bread as someone mentioned here.
Tonight I am making a pizza. Trying cauliflower for the crust...hope my husband will eat it!!
It sounds good to me! I like to use cauliflower as a substitute for rice in my recipes. He doesn't complain about that!

for breakfast i had hotel eggs and cheese and bacon and a protein shake
for lunch i had 2 a&w teen burgers with no ketchup and no bun and lots of mayo and then ..
i stopped at a farmers market to buy some pepperettes and ended up eating like 10 of them (ohlawd) but they're just local pork and spices, no fillers ( i asked) and there was a lady selling hand made chocolates i bough 1 chocolate bunny which had peanut butter inside for 1 dollar. Surprised this is all i bought because this place had homeade apple fritters, mini donuts, homeade pastries...etc
then for dinner i ordered pizza and wings and the wings were not breaded (i asked) and the pizza i just ate the toppings and cheese but i did have 2 small bites of crust. On the 3rd i spit it out and thought 'WTH am i doing im already full"

tmrw night i fly home, i travel a tonne and hate flying (unless im in executive class), whoever i sit next to will be thinking "oh god im beside this big fat boy" bleh :/

When i get home i want to try some experiments. I want to try no cheese, i want to try no dairy except butter..maybe not at the same time, but i want to try those, and also lower protein
