Right!! I'd hate to think how I would feel if I were trying to eat 1,000 calories or less every day. I'm having a hard enough time with energy as it is, lately.

Could you switch to another physician for the follow-up? There are open-minded doctors out there - I've been seeing a Nurse Practitioner for a few years and she's been very encouraging about my low-carb diet. I think it didn't hurt that I'd lost 30 lbs. between visits. It's hard to argue with success, and she's a 50-something who also struggles with her weight, so she actually wound up asking me for diet advice. Shop around - you don't have to stick with a physician you can't take seriously.
I have another doctor in mind already - the endocrinologist I just mentioned in another post. I don't know how he feels about low carb diets, but at least he seems to be very knowledgable about thyroid and hormones! When it comes to my gynecologist, I believe I'll stick to the annual "well woman" checkups from now on.

You know, this thread has really slowed down lately! Where is everybody??

Just wanted to say I reached a new low this morning: 142.2. I'm in shock... haven't seen anything below 143.0 since I started weighing every day over 3 months ago. At my appointment on Tuesday, I saw that my ob/gyn's records said I weighed 142 on their scales last August. Maybe all I had to do was start worrying about my thyroid to shame it into working properly again.

Still waiting on the blood test results.

Excellent news Unstrung!!! I think that people are likely still reading but maybe, nothing to report. That is my situation - apart from the fact that my ketones are progressively lower each morning.

Today ketones 1.1 and b.g. 5.1 (91.8).

I think I have to cut back on the big old salad I have been having as my main for dinner.

Cathy, I have noticed the big salads are not good for me either. High veggie days are not my friend.

Lindsay--I'm so sorry about your doctor's response, but I can't say that I'm surprised. Finding a good doctor who is knowledgeable and open minded is really difficult. It sounds like you have a great lead on that endo. It's surprising because most endos aren't actually very good with hormones and thyroid. My endo just looks at my thyroid and I see the naturopath for other hormonal stuff.

It's a hard path to go down getting all of this straightened out, but so worth it once you're on the other side.

And congratulations on your loss! Hopefully the test results will give a clue as to what's going on.

bjjcaveman--thanks for the information about the podcast. I also think that it's interesting that people here have seen different things happen with their thyroid testing when going LC. Since I don't have test results over the years I assumed that mine was worse from LC, but who knows? I did feel much better early on with LC and I was able to lose and maintain the loss which is something that I was never able to do with other diets.

I think that we're in uncharted territory here so it's good to take people's opinions (even when said with authority) with a grain of salt. There is no definitive answer so I continue to do what works for me and to listen to others who've had success to see what the common denominators are. Very unscientific, but it's all I have at this point.

Blood Ketones = 0.6
Weight = 178.4

Hit a new low in weight a few days ago at 177.2, then came back up. Body is REALLY sore from Crossfit workout... so it is probably due to muscular edema and water retention.

Surprised to see my ketones didn't go too much higher the morning after such an intense workout.

I have known that veggies (even the lowest carb) are a challenge for me as well but I wanted to see how or if, they affect my b.k. levels and voila! So backing off today. If all goes as planned, my ketones should be on the rise soon.

Sure did enjoy those big bowls of lettuce and other garnishes but I could definitely eat 1/2 of that and add more fat to be satisfied.

I see that the 3 of us are having the same challenges with basically any carb, especially the veggies/salad thing! So frustrating.

I baked a crustless, SF cheesecake 2 days ago, drjlocarb!!!!! Too funny.

I am going to keep solid food in a 4 hour window and keep my macros within my limits. I really like that way of eating and haven't tried that combination of methods.

Checking in... weight 186.0, ketones 0.8 - down a bit, which is not a surprise because I've had a hard time resisting the munchies at night. I started taking SAM-e last week to get me through SAD (seasonal affective disorder gets me every year), and I don't know if the SAM-e has any effect on hunger, or if its the SAD itself that is making me feel hungry. When I ate carbs, I always went way overboard on sugar at this time of the year, so I guess I'm ahead even if my weight is going down any too quickly - no sugar hangovers, and no regrets.

Been in this up/down pattern for a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that a whoosh is coming.

BigRunner, your ketones are great - are those fasting numbers? I've been stuck in the 0.8-1.1 range and not losing much.

Yes, they are. I test first thing out of bed each morning. On a typical day, I will not eat after 6pm and not test until at least 5am the next morning.

Back up a pound to 195.

Good morning everyone!

It's weird to only be testing once a week, but those few minutes more of sleep are lovely.

From last week to this week my numbers are:
Ketones: .8 -->.4
Weight: 145.2 -->144.8

I'm happy that my weight seems to have settled right where I want it to be. My ketones are lower than I'd like, but I'm not going to stress about it.

MerryKate--I too have suffered from SAD. Living in the NW is really hard, especially the older I get. Have you tried using one of those high intensity lights? I used one for years and still have a smaller one at my desk at work.

BigRunner--have you thought about tracking what you're eating beyond the protein? It may be that a few tweaks would get your weight moving down again.

Cathy, Shelley, and drjlocarb--I wonder if my daily dinner salad is what's keeping my ketones lower.

bjjcaveman--congrats on hitting a new low weight!

Buffy--thanks for checking in. I hope that you are feeling better!

Yvonne--good luck with your plan for this week. What are your goals for protein/carbs/fat?

I have the big light at home, and a small one at work, and while I'm not as bad off as I have been in the past, it's still a struggle. After talking to my coworkers I've found more than half of them have the same problem...we should probably install the lights in the ceiling of our office.

My ketones were 0.6 this morning (ate on the high side of my carb and protein range yesterday). I just discovered the joys of chicken bullion in an attempt to increase my sodium intake, and in the past few days I've dropped a lb./day, but overall I'm down 0.2 lbs. for the month. Progress is progress, I suppose.

I have to say, NK is a real cure for carb cravings. Now I have been craving protein instead.

I mean, I want to chew on a nice, roasted, medium rare cow leg.

Cathy and drjlocarb what do you consider a big salad?

My salads are generally 2 cups of lettuce (not packed down) plus maybe 2 mushrooms sliced, sometimes a grape tomato. I used to put an ounce of cheese on my salad, but trying to stay below 50g of protein, I've kind of had to give that up. Now I'm wondering if 2cups of lettuce is too much

My recent venture into salads has been 100g romaine (translates to about 5 medium size leaves), 10g red onion (very thin slice), 1 celery stalk, about 50g cucumber and 2 mushrooms and 50g of red bell pepper. All this adds up to about 17g with about 6g fibre. The dressing is homemade and measured (zesty Italian) - o.o. and vinegar with a few spices - again, measured and everything accounted for.

I think it is a lot of bulk and for some reason that seems to make a difference. Or maybe it is the tomato and or the bell pepper.... I will eat it again (just too good to resist) but try to cut back on the amounts.
