Not seeing purple on the strips...what am I doing wrong?
Hey guys,
So here I am complaining again. It's my 5th day of a less than 20 carb, 500 calorie diet today. I've tested for ketosis since day 3, and the strips are becoming more purple, but It seems that I can't get out of the "small" category (light pink). What do I need to do to get into full purp? The only thing I can think of that is delaying my progress is possibly my one cup of coffee in the morning with sugar free creamer (2g carbs) and a Splenda. The rest of the day, I just drink black coffee, water, and 1 diet soda... What's going on here! Thanks, Shaun |

Try adding a couple TB coconut oil to your daily food plan. Not only will it help you get into ketosis, it will provide a quick energy boost, like you used to get with sugar, and help prevent the low carb "flu".
And eat more! Cutting your calories back so severely will not help you lose weight on nutritional ketosis; however, eating enough calories will encourage your metabolism to burn fat. I know it seems backward compared to the usual diet advice, but the usual diet advice is wrong. |

You might want to check out this thread Can't stay in ketosis!! someone else posted a couple of days ago with the same question.
Short answer, you are in ketosis, you don't need to worry about the level on the ketostix, plus it isn't as meaningful as blood ketone levels anyway. |

500 cal per day seems very extreme. Phinney says at least 1200 per day and that was referring to women.

I went to google Medi-Weightloss to see what the heck it is and I found that LCF has a forum for it:
medi-weightloss At 500 calories a day it doesn't matter what color those sticks turn. When you starve yourself you are going to shed weight - fat and lean body mass. From what I can tell though, medi-weightloss is just a calorie restricted standard American diet with only the one quirk of being all protein for the first phase. Well, that and the fact that it is always referred to as 'medically supervised weight loss program'. 90 minute physical with a doctor going over medical history, complete with blood work and an EKG. |
