As far as a goal weight, I really have no idea. I say 150 just so I have something to work with when I am figuring protein amounts, etc. but I really don't know. At my age, I think you can get too thin and not look as nice as you do if you still carry a little extra weight, but that is just my opinion. I am moving down into size 14 size clothing now and will be there for a while I am sure, so I am kind of thinking maybe a size 12. Will take it a month at a time.

I think we all have experienced the 'denial' that comes with food choices but when it is a known fact, we must take charge and it is difficult for me to believe that a loving partner would prefer to have clearly dangerous kinds of results from sharing a 'special' meal - no matter what the occasion. And particularly when there are so many wonderful and decadent foods that can be chosen in place of the carbage.

New here. Want to try NK. Please point me in the right direction. Any books you recommend? I have been reading posts here for awhile. Just don't know how to figure out amounts etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Shanti, welcome.
Kristn kind of started the whole thing and in her signature (she is mom2zeke) you can see a couple of helpful links: This is the original thread she started in July: Nutritional Ketosis (LC/HF/MP) Challenge Anyone? And here are posts of interest to help you answer some of your questions: Nutritional Ketosis (LC/HF/MP) Challenge Anyone? |

Thanks Judy. I'll check it out. I've been reading lots about NK. I do read Jimmy Moore's blog. Just haven't been able to figure out exactly how to do it for me. Have been low carb for awhile. Ready to take the next step.

Shanti--the books that seem to be the most helpful are The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance and The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living. The Performance book is the one that talks about testing blood ketones. There's also a pretty good group of experienced NKers over on this thread: Testing Blood Ketones? Post your results here!. You might get more help there with any questions that you have. |

My goals are pretty superficial and vain.
![]() I would like to wear 32 inch waist "regular fit" jeans and at least see the hint of a six pack. (8-10% body fat?) I believe the goal weight I have chosen is a good place to start. |

Hmmm.... well, I'm sure I will come up with more, but for starters....
Continue with my weight loss. (I'm averaging about 1.5 lbs a week) Be bolder about asking how foods are prepared and with what ingredients (bread crumbs) when eating out Blue belt in karate by the end of the year Start doing barre classes here at home since this isn't offered in my area Paying it forward. People are starting to ask what I'm doing. It is a question I would answer vaguely because of all the negative comments I get. I will no longer be vague. I feel as if I have been lied to for years about what is "healthy." I want to share what I have learned with others IF they are open to hearing it. My 2013 Health Resolutions are as follows:-
1.lose 50 pounds and reach my goal weight of 150 pounds. 2.maintain a range of 150-155 OR between 20-25 % bodyfat 3.Heal my diastasis recti and hernia by working on my abs without surgery 4.Tone and trim all over. 5.Learn stretching/yoga/tai chi/relaxation 6.Learn swimming/walk 5k 7.make LCHF/NK a lifestyle. 8.Educate/help family/others about this WOE I know ,tall orders, but I like to challenge myself.so I get at least something done. BTW I have ALWAYS fulfilled resolutions I make each year, but for this one ,my metabolism has to cooperate too.

The manager is someone who is either German or Austrian - not recently, but maybe 25 years ago. German is her first language. WOE: NK / low carb
Start Date: Low carb for years; NK since 8/12
|
1. Continue weight loss (32 lbs since I started NK in Aug)
2. Keep my protein levels < 100 gr 3. Keep my carbs < 50 gr 4. Keep my calories < 1,700 5. Work out at least 3x weekly - switch out cardio for weights at least 2x weekly 6. Reach my 140 goal by summer (currently I'm 157) 7. Up my levels of grassfed beef from farmers market to most of my meat intake 8. Eat more nonstarchy veggies (I tend to skip veggies altogether since I'm not too hungry) 9. Limit dairy to once daily (already doing that) 10. No cheat days (pretty good at that, I need to keep it up) 11. Eat one bag of shirataki noodles (or kelp noodles) daily (really have helped me lose, not sure why) 12. Up my fish oil / MCT oil to 2 Tbl daily (I'm at about 1 Tbl now) 13. Read one book every 2 weeks 14. Walk outdoors instead of the treadmill on sunny days I guess that's about it for starters. Not too ambitious, but realistic for my lifestyle. BTW, for those feeling hunger starting on NK from ramping down protein, do it slowly and eat more fat at the start (bacon is great for this - lower protein, high in fat and very filling). Don't worry about limiting calories while becoming keto-adapted - once you're there (you will know it by how you feel if not measuring - I actually feel energetic, not hungry, and euphoric at times) then you can adjust your macro-nutrients so you lose weight. I measure, weigh and track my food which I believe has helped me tremendously in the weight loss journey. I use WW because I like the online tools - believe it or not, the WW program has changed to become easy to use for any WOE, including NK. I don't go to meetings tho since the lectures are all about eating the most carbs for the least amount of points possible, ugh. Peace! NK is the best tool - I'm hoping it will be as easy in 2013 as it was in 2012. |

Getting down below the number on my driver's license was a goal I reached only after starting NK, and now I keep looking at the picture and wondering if it's worth the cost of a new license to have the old picture go away. ![]() |

I did this when I first lost weight. I was turning 40 and I went in and got a new license. The woman looked up my old license and almost didn't give me a new one the picture was so different! It's totally worth it.

My number one goal has nothing to do with weight. I want a job where I see my children every night and I do not have to travel! I am a nurse, and child care is hard to find at 6 am to 730pm seven days and holidays. So i do temporary work when my husband is in town. Not a bad gig, but i miss them and the lack of consistency is so very hard on a 2 and 3 year old. Anyway, that's my goal.
My fitness goal is to figure it out!! |
