Good Morning 2013!!!

Congrats to everyone who isn't starting over and congrats to everyone who is starting over

Congrats to Becky for her awesome new low!

I am up a lb this morning due to partaking in my 2 glasses of champagne, I am sure, but it was worth it to toast the New Year with Mr. Buffy. Didn't go off plan with food at all except to probably eat a little more than usual in hopes of offsetting any effect from the bubbly. First drink since Sept. 3rd so I didn't want to wake up with a hangover from 2 glasses, ate more and drank 3 bottles of water before I went to bed after midnight.

Jealousy: ...I want one because that person has one. I am jealous. If I buy one for myself or someone buys one for me I have cured my jealousy.

Covetousness: ...I want *that* one. I want to take it away from that person and have it for myself.

Envy: ...I resent the fact that you have got something that I do not have and I am gonna knock it out of your hand and stomp on it because it bothers me more that you've got something that I don't have than for me to go out and get it myself.

Anywho! I thought it was very interesting
Very interesting. New Year's Day is definitely a day for introspection. Thanx for giving me something to "introspect"!

Definitely! And that sounds delish!

I did not do so well. I've been eating fruit the last several days like crazy. Yesterday, I ate a LOT of it. Obviously triggered carb cravings, because I mused out loud that I was really craving a grilled cheese sandwich. Which my husband promptly made for me. Not sure if I should thank him or smack him!

After that, all on my own, I consumed an embarrassing amount of potato chips.

And of course, champagne at midnight.

Today my weight is the same, and despite my fruit indulgences, it has stayed more or less the same. Even when I gained a freakish 5 pounds in like a week, it corrected itself quickly.

I feel lucky, but trying not to go into that mentality where "I've gotten away with this and nothing bad has happened so I can obviously keep doing it."

Mizz, wishing I had eaten breakfast with you!!!

Deborah, yes, you are on shaky ground. Step back on the concrete before you undo some of the fabulous work you have done.

I have thought for many years that music videos can give songs a strong new dimensionality that they otherwise do not have. In fact, the right video can make an ordinary song extraordinary.

I was watching Loreena McKennitt's video for The Mummer's Dance that was posted by quinlanroad.

Granted that song is already excellent. However, the people shown in the studio playing the instruments while Loreena sings and plays her instrument... they all, her included, look very happy and they all have joyous smiles. It completes the song.

A great music video can simply be a great video of the band performing the song/music as in the case of this video for the parts in studio. It can be an artistic expression. Or a very cool mini-movie. Whatever.

It seemed to me that my predilection for great music videos, that is the visual accompaniment to the song, was sort of shallow on my part. Right? You should be able to enjoy the music on its merits and the video is a shabby crutch indeed.

Or so I thought. I mean, I knew that for me the visual completed the experience but I could never verbalize why nor did I think that it was the norm. I realized really just this morning while contemplating the inner-beauty that was blazing out from those two women in the video that musical enjoyment has *always* had a visual component. It is only in modern times that it has been possible to separate the visual from the sound.

If you think about it, in times past the only way to enjoy the music was to generally be in a position to watch it being performed in real time.

MTV is a travesty of garbage programming and a moral vacuum today. But back when it started in the early 80's it was a revolution. Even a devolution in the sense that it finally reconnected the visual to the auditory.

Interesting.

Okay back to work on our new 2013 thread!

I'm an eclectic partaker of music. Sort of a Nerus of SG-1 but for music.

You almost had to make a road trip. I heard them all except DEV.

I would have to add Southern Culture on the skids, Camel walk. Cause it makes me happy.

Here is another example of the extraordinary.

Placebo - Running up that Hill - posted by nigaiyouki. It is a fan video. I really like the song without the visual but this is another example of completing the song with an added dimension.

heh I never heard of SCOTS before I don't think. They remind me of the B52s though.

Dang. I didn't put Primus on my playlist.

Edit - It would have been Shake Hands With Beef.
