So far it has worked dramatically well. I think twice I still woke up but I was able to think happy thoughts and go right back to sleep after a few minutes.

That is a huge contrast to having to stay up for an hour reading a book to get my mind off of things.

The question is, is it simply the placebo effect or is Taubes right?

I am inclined to think the effect is real but not for the reason that GT gave. When I was doing it weeks ago I would have my T of CO before 6pm. How many calories are in that? Not enough, I think, to account for sleeping through 6 or 8 hours later because of caloric intake.

On the other hand, CO results in the production of ketones and ketones unlock the calories in fat tissue, right? Simplistic but correct in broad terms I think. So, GT is right about energy availability but not because of his [implied] reasoning for the just before bedtime calories. Or, perhaps more likely, it is a situation of "either / or / or both".

One very interesting thing is that I took my dose very late one evening, just before going to bed, and it did not keep me up. I'm sure that is a YMMV thing.
The time I feel the most dread lately is before/during 5 sets of squats. Maybe I'll try some CO before my workout today.

Great pic Cheryl!

heh I was in NJ for basic a bajillion years ago. I swear I stood and gawked at the sunrise every morning for the first couple of weeks. Having been in the DFW MetroPlex since I was too young to remember, I'd never seen a really stunningly beautiful sunrise or sunset. I'm not saying that we never get them in the DFW area but whenever we did I was not around.

That is funny too. Ya'll remember that ad line "We get more done before 9am than most people get done all day"? Well, when you are getting up at the crack of dawn, being driven like slaves and have no option to not work your butt off you can generally get more done than someone not in that position lol.

I recommend 1/2 T of CO and then a nap through the workout.

NC. I was there too for about a year. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Seemed like the sunsets won especially in the fall when it was just right to be tossing the ball around outside while sipping on brewskis and listening to Dreams by Molly Hatchet.

Yep, fall sunsets are awesome. We have been having some really amazing sunrises the last few weeks. In the winter I have a really nice view from my playroom door so I get to see it every morning. That picture didn't even half do it justice.

Congrats!
Yeppers, just 2/10s of a lb less than a couple of days ago but I immediately grab on and claim each new low, even if it bounces for a few days. Would like to be down another 1/2 lb by tomorrow morning to make it a nice round 10 lbs for the month of Dec. but doubt that will happen and won't be upset if it doesn't as I am in shock over this months losses anyway.

Hi to all! Got some exercise cleaning up after all the hoopla of the holidays today! DH had to work.
I love this discussion that Darin started us on today. I work in a very snippy, snarky, rude, entitlement...but loving, kind, generous, healing industry....and after having off since the 21st, I have thought long and hard about some work situations that fall into this discussion. To me, the family part is easy to deal with..."let it lie"....no point in heated debates with anyone unless you are paying for their life! Another topic there! Buffy, I have done exactly what you did....divorced a group of women who were all three characteristics, and my Mama didn't raise me to put up with much, nor to act like they did, in fact, I was ashamed to be in their group/organization! It has been a real challenge to raise two daughters in our materialistic, "fast-food-everything" world. How many times I have soapboxed on "just because you are breathing doesn't entitle you to anything but a bit of air!" Part of my job requires neutral, non-judgmental decision-making...to the letter of the law, with a bit of compassion thrown in here and there. Darin, wish I had heard this radiocast...it is perfect for now, I will ponder it a bit more and take some of it back to work with me. TY!
And...that pic of the sunrise is an awe moment, thanks Cheryl! We have beautiful ones here, and I love taking a few minutes daily to soak in their beauty.
Welcome Caveman! Joining us from lurkland!? Come out and talk to us!
I hope everyone has a terrific New Years Eve, doing whatever makes you HAPPY! ct

SG, what you said about being ashamed to be in their organization really hit a note with me, I remember being with these women at times and them making snarky comments about others who happened by or were in the area, sometimes to the point of being overheard, I also was ashamed to be a part of it.

I am with you ladies. My girls both came home from school upset about girl groups. I told them then I don't do girl groups. All thru school I hung with the guys. Girls are too hard. The few times I have strayed from that I have really regretted it. Don't get me wrong guys can be bad too, but a group of women can become horrid.
I have always been a happy girl (I giggle in my sleep), They used to call me smilin Cherylie at my old job. My ex husband was full of negativty and miserable. He would wake up and I would be up dancing around and feeling good and he would say "I hate you, You make me sick, How can you wake up and be so Da*n happy?"
People that are miserable want others to be miserable too or he did.

God has really blessed me. I found the man of my dreams and I have it all.
Funny thing, my hubby was my ex hsbands, brother's best friend. heheheh I always thought he was so good looking but was married to the Grinch. When I got divorced we wound up crossing paths and BAM!

Thanks, maybe he will overcome it. He did tell me once that he used to smoke 4 packs a day but quit smoking many years ago. His wife made the appointment cause he started having trouble swallowing 4 months ago. He didn't wanna go so she made the appt and dragged him.

Whew! I have known people like that too. In fact, I kind of enjoy solitude in the mornings when I first get up just so no one can intentionally or unintentionally spoil my good mood.

I did have a little CO in some broth, and then some HWC in Coke Zero before working out.

It did seem to reduce my dread by about 50%, but I was feeling a little nauseous the second set.

I was hoping that I would be so filled with energy that I would finish the whole workout (also had overhead presses and deadlifts) quickly. Nope, it took me 2.5 hours.

It could be that I am just slow, but I actually think this is an effect of NK. You have long energy, but not fast energy. Long energy works for me, though. I will take that deal.

A New Years playlist.

One Headlight by the Wallflowers to bring in the New year. What awesome music.

Cranberries - Linger

Collective Soul - Shine

Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe (the 2002 HQ version of the video is best)

Hermes House Band - Que Sera Sera (very cool video. Country Roads is also great by them. Let me tell you what, Hermes House Band is not exactly a memorable name lol dang it took me forever to find them suckers again)

Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish the entire freakin album.

Puddle of Mudd - Blurry

Seether and Amy Lee - Broken

Got to get away from the sad face stuff and on to

Motograter - Down

Slipknot - Duality

Korn - really pretty much anything by them but Twisted Transistor is super cool with a fantastic video lol.

Battles - Atlas

Dream Academy - Life in a Northern Town

Muse - Uprising

Ivy - Edge of the Ocean

Far East Movement - Like a G6 hell yeah

Dev - Bass Down Low

Dev - Killer - Really it is her best song hands down.

Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough

Gosh, got to stop there and hit the sack sometime here soon!

Ha, Ha, Red. I have only heard of one of the artists listed, Wallflower, and am clueless about their music. Guess I must be a bit out of touch.

Dang it!! I knew there'd be songs I'd do a face palm for missing on my little playlist.

Loreena McKennitt - The Mummers' Dance

If any person reading that playlist has ever heard *all* of them I will drive over to meet them where ever they live heh

I'm an eclectic partaker of music. Sort of a Nerus of SG-1 but for music.
