TGIF! Hello to all.
Welcome MyIdealSelf!
Becky, every trip we take, no matter what I do, I gain weight. I think it's not drinking enough, different food, lack of movement...I refuse to weigh for at least one week after we return. You will get back to losing very fast! That said, what a wonderful thing to do just to stay in bed and sleep. Veggies - we love mushrooms, spagetti squash, zucchini and yellow squash, peppers, green beans, asparagus, brocolli, cauliflower mash, tomatoes, DH eats lettuces and spinach too.
Oceana, you made my mouth water when reading about the veggies roasted with garlic....will be cooking some this weekend. You are doing great!
Mizzcase, sounds like you need to add more protein, few veggies to avoid the sudden crash zones! I liked the idea of the fat fast, then a long ago memory came back of my hypoglycemic self crashing, passed out cold from one day of that!
Blonde, fat is our friend. Took me a while to grasp this notion. Today I had 5 min for lunch, so I put cream cheese in small grinder/blender thingy, and mac nuts, coconut butter, then put it on high and voila, it was wonderful. Not hungry even at suppertime. A year ago I would have starved if this was presented to me! And a great side effect, I have not had one hypoglycemia moment since I started NK.
Hi Deborah, I hope you get some relaxing time to de-stress this weekend.
Sophie, wow, how lucky to have your family on this with you. Saves on the cooking. My SIL cooks high carb and prefers desserts first!
Wow Judy, you have a lot on board too! How did you get them all to "come over"?
Hi Cici, hope you are still hanging in positive with us! Gosh that reflux is still getting you?
Yea Darin. I was thinking as reading that you sound like your old self, old quick sense of humor, and the wit is definitely sharp lately...then I wondered if you were about ready to get back on NK! Then the next post was you saying you were!
Hi Linda, good to hear from you.
Cheryl, good idea to do the egg/meat days!

Becky I also lose the best while eating mostly beef.
2-3 tbs CO and 3 tbs HWC doesn't seem like too much fat to me. I think it's important to make sure to get enough protein, then all the extra fat is good.
Red will have a good answer on this one
I think journaling is really important. Even when we think we don't need to anymore, it's still good to get back into it every once in awhile because it's easy to not realize how carbs and such creep back up.

Interesting. Pork is generally as lean a selection of meat as boneless skinless chicken breast while beef is almost always fattier.

I wonder what your macro ratios and total calories looked like on those days.

I doubt that you are eating too much fat Becky. You mean with your gain from your post-holiday road trip, right? From what you said it sounded more like too many nuts. It is surprisingly easy to overeat them.

Same here on the food journal. I do very well with it and awful without it. And NK is pretty demanding along those lines.

Good morning all, I'm on the same page about food journals. I need them to keep me accountable or I will go hog wild.

Weighed in this morning, 123.2... thats only -.2 from yesterday, but I am still doing cartwheels over it. I ate about 3000 calories, went over on protein and carb goals, AND had 2 drinks on top of it. And I still lost weight. Are you kidding me?!

I woke up this morning and I was so sore all over, like I had the flu. Not a hangover, but if I wasn't in ketosis before, I am now. The soreness has always been the key indicator for me, never got the metal mouth or anything else.

Darin, have you been in on the conversation with Kristn regarding the forum format? There was some discussion on another thread about how this is all working with the two monthly threads. I would have to go back and look for it.

reddarin...why is it fiber is not subtracted when counting carbs? i can't get past that. it's engrained in my pea brain to subtract them.

i was down .6 this morning. still .4 above my low. but moving down.(still waiting for tom too). today i am going to push my cal level up closer to the top of my cal limit for my goal weight (goal wt kg*.35) i had been sticking to the lower end (goal wt kg*.30).

To me the recent ability to surgically add or remove genes from crop plants, etc., is really just a minor change in the way we have been genetically modifying them for thousands of years. Of course the companies that have patents in the area trumpeted this new ability to the high heavens and called them "GMO's". Like nothing like it has existed before.

But the practice of breeding plants and animals is thousands of years old. Literally the only difference now is that instead of doing wide crosses and then spending 10 generations trying to get rid of all the other junk you brought in with the cross, it is now possible to add only those genes you intended to. It is a scalpel compared to a sledge hammer.

But if you looked back at the (pre-GMO) methods used to produce nearly any crop (eg, asparagus) you would see little reason to distinguish between it and GMOs.

Not really. Our abilities in this area are quite pitiful. Decades ago normal breeding techniques produced the "green revolution" that both limited world wide famines as our population dramatically increased.

What has changed since then? Technically vast amounts. But this still represents understanding a tiny percentage of what is going on. Really the stuff done now with so-callled "genetic engineering" is little more than parlour tricks.

I think it is unfortunate that so much attention is focused on these techniques themselves, rather than what they are being used to accomplish. Outcomes should be our focus, rather than methods.

Still working on December's thread. Got everything ready but I cannot post it. I think I have too many embedded formatting tags so I am walking through it tweaking it and retrying to post it.

Yes, your day looks fine to me but it looks like you are not eating coconut oil? Love that stuff! So many good things about it.

Oops just looked back, maybe that wasn't a 'typical' day in that I only ate 1 tbsp CO. I usually eat 3-4 Tbsps. Is that enough?

Thanks!

Just wanted to point out that while what you are saying here is, of course, true... you are comparing how far we've come, even you admit it is a vast distance, to how far we have to go. Not really a valid comparison.
