I have this "vintage" pair of Liz Clairborne denim shorts, they are probably 20 years old or more, they are not worn at all b/c I can only remember being thin enough in the last 20 years to wear them, one time. Anyway, they are size 14 and for those of us who are old enough, sizes of womens clothing just keep going down in size but up in how big they are. Like even at 128 lbs, I wore a size 14 in high school, I would guess that I would wear a 6 or an 8 now. Ok, back to my story. I searched around when I started NK for the smallest thing I could find, I had given away most of my thinner clothing. I found these at the bottom of a drawer in a guest room. So, I have been trying them on once a week since I started. At first, the waistband had a gap of at least 6 inches, then slowly, it got less and less. This morning, I fastened them and zipped them up! I could barely walk mind you, but I had those bad boys on!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this story!!!

One of the first things I stole from my dh when we were dating were his old Levi's 501s. I haven't been able to button them in years.
But I can now!

Hi all! Have been gone busy at school all day, just catching up, but wanna post before I forget some things hehe!
Sandy- I go through bouts of exteme nausea to extreme hunger within 10 minutes sometimes too, it drives me crazy! Feel better

Shelley- welcome back

Red-- can you figure out numbers for me pretty please? I see so many different calculations, but I'd trust yours more than doing it myself

Wrist 4.75 (small framed)
24 yrs old
5'3.75" tall
Lightly active
Goal Weight: 110

I've been this weight before and its not too small. I have a tiny frame :-)
I kind of have a vague idea what I'm supposed to get in terms of protein (54-89, maybe?) but have absolutely NO idea what kind of calorie goals I should have.

Today was not bad, but was so busy at school, last thing I ate before I got home at 6:30 was an oz of macadamia nuts at 11AM. Starting feeling really light-headed and like I couldn't catch my breath around 2:30PM, I think it was because I hadn't had any protein at all up to that point besides whatever was in the brie and neufchatel I ate...

For today: (and man am I full)
1278 cals, 12g carbs, 2g fiber, 105g fat, 64g protein

Hows it looking?

Last question: do any of y'all drink alcohol? If you do, what do you drink and how does it impact your weight loss? I love some me some vodka and club :-)

Thanks yall!

Wow, your goal weight sounds so low to me I am the same height as you, just a teeny bit older and probably have a medium to large frame and I haven't weighed 130 since I went through a divorce, many years ago. I don't recommend that diet BTW!! And, you are working out and lifting weights which in my limited understanding of working out, that means your are building muscle and lowering your % of BF, right? That means you will be smaller at a higher weight than a person with higher BF. I know you were probably much thinner in your past than maybe the average person, but maybe you need to rethink that now. Not critizing here at all Shelley, but don't be too hard on yourself. Maybe 140 would be a nice goal to shoot for, heck, I am using the number 150 but not even sure I want to get to that. I don't want to be a skeeenny Grandma, just not a FAT Grandma. Food for thought, anyway. Just glad you are back Shelley!
Thank you for your sweet comments and concern. My goal weight it what I was for years and years at age 40-55 or so. Very stable there. Before 40, I was in the 108-112# range (not dieting, just actively dancing, teaching and eating nonfat...DUMB!!!!!)

I was 140 just a year ago (Body for Life program) and wanted to go lower, but went on Atkins induction and gained it all back. My nutritionist said with my frame and history, it would be ideal to be about 130...doc said I should be 127...so???? I felt good at 130 for about 15 years, and was anxious to drop a little more when I got down to 140 last year. I don't think I"m being unrealistic as most of my life I've been "thin" to normal. I'm small framed. Small wrists for someone my height. And I've always done tons of exercise and have done weights off and on for the last 10 years or so....and thought I was "overweight" when I went from 130 to 137 at age 55!!!! Horrors!!! ha ha Would love to go back to that now.

My only real change has been lowering carbs to under 5%, upping my fat, and eating red meat!!!!!

And, what am I fixing for dinner....beef stroganoff!!!!!

Dr. Phinney's recommendation is 1.5g/kg that results in 89g protein daily.

For a goal weight of 130 the calorie goal would be : 2068 (35kCal/kg) with a floor of 1773 (30kCal/kg - for an obese and/or very sedentary person).

Calories: 2068

Protein grams: 89 (356 ~ calories)
Fat grams: 190 (1710 ~ calories)

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!

That is quite a change from 47 grams of protein and 1200 calories. I remember one day where I had 190 grams of fat and 1900 calories and laughed as I was "down" on the scale the next day and thought it bizarre. Guess that *is* where I belong. Thank you!!!!! going to go find that day of food and see what I did...obviously it's where I belong and not what I've been doing.

Nobody else in there deadlifts that I have ever seen, so I can imagine that it's weird for them to see this little oldish lady deadlifting 100 pounds 5 x 5!
Love this!!!! But our gym is filled with retired old folks...most men are in their 70's and go daily!!! Yikes. They gave me a really bad time when I started 3 years ago there...and I had to go to the front desk several times to get the manager/owner to come and tell the guys to "back off". They would block me and say nasty things. All I wanted to do was my workout, but they taunted me. Now they are used to me, and 2 of the "nastiest guys" are very nice and smile now. I just didn't give in to them. But it was quite tedious.

Deadlifting 100#????? Well, I'll work up to that! I'll let you know what she says tomorrow. I'm excited!

Alcohol... I have not had any since September when I started NK. I've seen several posts with people having problems not losing and it turns out that they emphatically include wine or some sort of alcohol in their woe.

I reckon you'll have to try it and see how it goes. I doubt it will go well though heh.

Numbers...

Goal Weight: 110

NK Page:
(x*(1-.18)*0.6 = 54-90

Exercise Page:
(x/2.2)*0.8 = 40
(x/2.2)*1.2 = 60
(x/2.2)*1.5 = 75
(x/2.2)*1.8 = 90

Dr. Phinney's recommendation is 1.5g/kg that results in 75g protein daily.

For a goal weight of 110 the calorie goal would be : 1750 (35kCal/kg) with a floor of 1500 (30kCal/kg - for an obese and/or very sedentary person).

Calories: 1750

Protein grams: 75 (300 ~ calories)
Fat grams: 161 (1449 ~ calories)
Carb grams: ??

Oh what fun!!!! I wish I could have seen you try to zip them up. Reminds me of the commercial of the woman putting on her tight jeans. lying on her back on the bed to get the flattest possible stomach and then taking out a pair of pliers to grab and pull on the zipper!!!! Sorry, I'm sure you didn't do that, but it gave me that funny visual. Congratulations!! Soon you'll be able to put them on and walk and do a jig!!!!

Red, you're the best! Good thing I just ate a piece of pumpkin bake with loads of whipped cream.. 71g of protein for the day sounds about perfect! Gonna copy your recommendations onto my notepad in email so I can refer to it whenever.

Re: the group getting together and starting our own NK like WW thing. I met a group of 16 women online in a quilting chat room. We were from all over the world. After about 6 months of writing to one another we did decide to meet. One of the members designed quilting patterns and there was a show to sell her patterns in Minneapolis. She signed us all in as employees and we met. It was fabulous. One woman from Nova Scotia brought her mother as she was "sure" we'd be male rapists and she wanted to be safe. Another woman came over from Scotland! The rest of us were from all over Canada and America. It was fabulous.

So...when and where is our first meeting. I'll be there!!!!!

Red Oak? I knew a girl named Starr that lived there for several years (10 years ago?). Wife with 2 great kiddos. Her husband was a good guy that drove a wrecker when I knew Starr. I didn't really know her husband. She was my GF's buddy.

One of the times I lived in Texas I remember seeing the cutest postcard.
The picture was a little boy beside a 1940s car and the caption was,

"The sun has riz
The sun has set
and here I is
in Texas yet."

Hi to All!
Misscase - you are off to a great start! Congrats! My DD1 lives in Austin, it is a great place. I'd stay far away from McAllen. DH used to go there on business and a year ago he heard one of those drug wars firing off! Right by his hotel. That did it for me. There are webconferences for that stuff! I have some wine a couple times a week; a few on the other NK thread have vodka drinks, doesn't seem to hurt them.
dazygyrl - good start and down is great!
Cici, hang in there, some of us are just slow losers, and scales not going up is good too!
Great posts Buffy!
Hi Blonde! Welcome! Many of us are grain free/gluten free etc, and love the way we feel. Happy for you to join us!
Darin, I think your analysis is good. I try to eat the marbled meats, love fatty brisket...I have found when I have calories too low, miss eating, the scales will bounce up. So eating high fatty protein helps prevent that from happening for me.
Hi Linda! You CAN do this!
Oh wow Oceana, in the 130s! You did it. So proud of you. You are so sweet.
Hi Cheryl!
Hi Tablis! I haven't tried the MCT oil, I stick with CO, olives, nut ones, bacon, and good ole butter! Take your mag with food, or shortly after, add B6 for a better boost!
Hi Sophie, thanks for posting your recipe again, I think that is the one I wrote down and now looking for it!
Sandy, hope you feel better. we have had lots of tummy bugs here recently!
Hi Shelly, we missed you! Glad you are back with a new resolve.
Mary, are you feeling any better?

I have a report on the Saliva Test! Wow, it was worth it. I was low in every single hormone area, so I have a patch, two different compounded capsules, and a "fancy" new supplement mix. Apparently my adrenals are not functioning at anywhere near normal. I am literally jumping for joy! The lab report had several pages of resulting, and all my symptoms of weight stall, gain in hips, etc....were directly related! I have hope of ending this stall. My sweet PharmD joked about some of the low levels! Wondered how I got up in the morning. I was just smiling. So for all the late 40s and early 50s, or post-meno women, you may want to consider this test.

I think this is huge. I am on another thread where a woman has had very low adrenal function and has been able to treat based on symptoms (partly from her temperature). She is at goal weight and is finding new energy!

Congratulations for finding an answer!!

That's so funny- whenever i mention Red Oak to a native Texan- they have never heard of it
