Sandy, even WW has adopted a lower carb diet if I understand correctly. But, on WW I never was satisfied and obsessed about food constantly. Now, my obsession is this darn site! Can't get anything done

I am also a lifetime member, as I did make it to goal with them. I haven't been back since I started LC. I suppose I could though, because I could still do the weigh-in with the little book. I guess I would feel weird about participating in the meeting though (which I used to like a lot), because I would definitely not be following their plan. It's definitely true that a forum like this can be excellent for support, but there is something to be said about being face to face with people!

I always found the WW meeting leaders so encouraging. Were you a meeting leader for them?

Actually, I've often wished that some smart entrepreneur would start a low-carb weightwatchers-type plan, with face-to-face meetings. That would be pretty cool (and everybody at the meeting wouldn't be so hungry!)

Dr. Phinney's recommendation is 1.5g/kg that results in 89g protein daily.

Hi Shelley,

So cool that you found a trainer who is interested in LC. I definitely know what it's like to be the only older woman in the gym lifting heavy (it's mostly a young male, bodybuilding building gym). The trainer/owner is very nice to me, but he doesn't get me at all. Nobody else in there deadlifts that I have ever seen, so I can imagine that it's weird for them to see this little oldish lady deadlifting 100 pounds 5 x 5!

Well!

I just figured out why I cannot get to 85% or higher fat macro using the formulas I am using .... drum roll please... it is impossible lol.

The constraints make it impossible to get higher than 82% fat and that is with essentially zero carbs.

Calories at 35kCal/kg. Protein at 1.5g/kg. Together that puts a ceiling of about 82.5% for the fat macro max.

Interesting. At least and at last I figured it out heh.

Fantastic idea. I mean, let's face it, WW is raking in the bucks with a basic plan that is just not optimal for lots and lots of people. Red, all you need to do is quit your day job, invest a cool million or so, and you'll be on the cover of Forbes magazine before you can say "bullet proof coffee"!

Red, do you use 18% body fat in all your computations? That would be very low for most women so if that is the calculation, just wondering about the rational. Or am I misreading the calculation?

Oh, I keep forgetting to post this, hope it helps some of you that are frustrated with your scale.

I have this "vintage" pair of Liz Clairborne denim shorts, they are probably 20 years old or more, they are not worn at all b/c I can only remember being thin enough in the last 20 years to wear them, one time. Anyway, they are size 14 and for those of us who are old enough, sizes of womens clothing just keep going down in size but up in how big they are. Like even at 128 lbs, I wore a size 14 in high school, I would guess that I would wear a 6 or an 8 now. Ok, back to my story. I searched around when I started NK for the smallest thing I could find, I had given away most of my thinner clothing. I found these at the bottom of a drawer in a guest room. So, I have been trying them on once a week since I started. At first, the waistband had a gap of at least 6 inches, then slowly, it got less and less. This morning, I fastened them and zipped them up! I could barely walk mind you, but I had those bad boys on!

Oh my gosh, that is amazing! I can remember when jeans weren't tight enough unless you had to lay on your back on a bed to zip them! I have some pants that I'm "longing" to wear. By golly I'm gonna try them on every week, too!

Wow, excellent! The clothes-fitting factor is so key, isn't it? I've recently discovered that my snow pants don't fit me, so maybe--once my health issues are sorted--that can be my measuring stick. We have about 5 months of snowpant weather ahead of us, so 15-20 pounds in 5 months, I think that's doable, right? (although then, once I was able to fit in the snowpants, it would be spring)

No I wasn't a leader, I was one of the weigh in people.
Oh, and I never stay for the meetings now. I just weigh in and leave. I did always like the meetings too but now they'd probably just make me mad, lol. As they tout their plan. Kind of sad really. I think the way they make their real money is that the people keep rejoining. I know I went back over and over throughout the years from 1972 to 2000+.

It is an interesting question. I haven't looked into how Phinney's 1.5g/kg of protein shakes out for BF%.

Nor did he mention it in the Living book or the podcasts that he's done with Jimmy Moore or the youtube video he did on LC.

The 18% that you see in the intro post to this thread and the previous threads is the baseline they were using on the other NK thread back in September. I don't pay much attention to it because I never use their formula when work out anyone's numbers although I do include the formula and it's protein results in the blurb. The only reason I do that is because I do not want to hide the fact that there are other approaches to NK.

WOW thanks a ton! these numbers sound GREAT to me
well at least the protein part. That's alot more fat than I've been able to consume in a day. I'll start working on it, I'm sure my weight will go up a few before adjusting again and going back down.

Awesome news! I know what you mean about sizes, it's like they go up every year. I can fit into some 5s when I know darn well that I am no smaller than a true size 10. Only in america is it like this. It's very frustrating to me!
