Thanks
Yeah, wow!, dunno what has come over me. Allergies I think. It is very much like a head cold but I haven't been in contact with anyone that has a cold or been around the general public much to catch a stealth cold. No one around here is sick. I tell you what! Back in the '90s I experienced an allergy to something in the air up north. Runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing. I went to the pharmacist and described the symptoms and he said 'well you have an allergy' and I said no sir I do not have allergies and he replied 'you do now' lol. Anyway, after that incredibly miserable experience I have been very sympathetic to allergy sufferers! It only lasted a day or two back then. I think it has only happened one time since in the intervening ~20 years. I was zapped with this bout about an hour after I got up yesterday. Been fighting it ever since. I was amazed at how quickly the end of my nose declared mutiny and demanded a cessation of hostilities from the kleenex aggressors. I had some allergy stuff but it has tylenol in it and I do not care to take that so I got some with Advil. Probably end up having to snooze for a bit because of the antihistamine. |

I got some of those 'Cool Touch' kleenex tissues late yesterday. Have ya'll tried them? Wow, pretty amazing. They do feel cool to the touch.
I don't care much for the ones with lotion and I do not like the smell of Mentholatum so I don't like those ones either. But the cool touch are good. |

Sounds like you feel pretty yucky Red. I have a lot of trouble with allergies and just stay on a steady dose of zyrtec (generic) this time of year and in the spring. don't like to do that but otherwise I end up with upper respiratory infection and or pneumonia.

One of the things about MCT that is different from CO is that MCT doesn't become solid at ~77 degrees. That means that you can use it on salads and in shakes without it clumping up. Also, it doesn't have the anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral properties of CO so it doesn't upset your stomach the way CO can. You do get the ketogenic effect that CO produces with MCT oil. |

Feel fine but really having trouble eating 2000 calories, I seem to settle pretty good at about 1650-1700 but just add some more fat and I get to 2000. I did have a loss last week doing it so continuing on for another week of the higher calories and making sure I hit my minimum protein.

Today is worse than yesterday. Yesterday was just a runny nose from heck. Today, I kept that symptom and added watery eyes and sneezing lol. It is strange but I can't remember ever having to use petroleum jelly on my nose before. I've bought those lotion kleenex boxes before (which is why I know I do not like them) but within hours it seemed like yesterday my nose was so raw I could hardly touch it. But that petroleum jelly worked wonders really. I've seen other people do that but I guess I always thought it was only mentolated stuff like vicks. Maybe it is a head cold? It doesn't seem possible but who knows? I'm healthier today than I have been in decades so maybe this is what a healthy person feels like with an awful head cold? lol ![]() |

Could be either Red. Sounds like allergies but also are the symptoms I get when I am beginning to get a head cold, which then moves to my chest, which then moves quickly into pneumonia for me. Hoping with my new WOE that I am building up a stronger immune system.

I'm back...did you miss me?!
I have been on the road with DH going through Idaho, Washington, Oregon and down 1/2 way through California and back in the last 6 days. Wow...long time of sitting!!!! Hard, but a good trip. I weighed myself this morning and was exactly the same as the morning I left. Guess that's good news. Discovered my favorite "meal" on the go was McDonald's which I have not been to in over 25 years! I ordered their "angus deluxe burger" with no bun. Came in a bowl and ate it with fork and knife and was perfect for lunches and dinners on the go! I have skimmed the last week of posts. Major Red, glad you are back and sorry you are sick....hope you get better soon! Lots of newbies...how fun!!!! Oceana....read your post about the stepmom situation and see you got lots of good responses, so I hope you are doing much much better with that mental "take down" of sorts. Been there, done that. You sure are adorable and don't deserve that! Sounds like "stepmom" comes by her name honestly....of the "wicked" type. Someone asked about MCT oil. I cannot handle CO in coffee or tea, but the MCT oil essentially is flavorless and easy to drink, so I have the MCT for coffee/tea and use the CO for cooking and fat bombs. (took fat bombs with me in an ice chest with tons of ice and it worked!!!!) Have one bizarre comment that happened yesterday on the way home. I was driving in Oregon and my vision started having little "circles" of mirages....could not focus. Felt "fine", but the vision was so bad I had to pull over and have hubby drive. I got out my sea salt and my powerade zero from teh ice chest...had about 1 tsp of salt on the palm of my hand and chugged lots of the powerade zero. Within 10 minutes I was fine! With all the eating out and traveling, I had not been salting food at all. Wow...that was an "eye opener" (not meant to be a pun). Just another little tidbit of things we had discussed in the past about how we feel without sufficient magnesium, sodium and potassium. So....it's great to be back and I'm going to just jump back in to the posts. Sounds like people are doing well...so glad to hear it! I missed you all!!!

Welcome back Shelly
![]() That's pretty amazing about the salt. I really need to remember that when I'm feeling "weird" I did get lots of support about my stepmom from everyone and it helped so much! It's weird I let it effect me, I even took down my picture for awhile cause I just felt embarrassed even tho I knew I didn't have the problems she was saying I did. I'm just trying to stay away from her because it just got worse the days after. So my ketostix last night was dark purple I had totally knocked myself out from the week I went off plan! and just a few days ago there was no sign of purple. OH and the taste in my mouth is horrid I could definitely do without that!

NK is probably most fully described in the second book (which I haven't read) - The Art & Science of Low Carb Performance - but really I put all that together from listening to Jimmy Moore podcasts and from information on the original NK thread from September that Kristn started. I haven't read Good Calories Bad Calories but the Why We Get Fat is truly an outstanding book. And the A&S of Living is good too. |

Hello late in the day to everyone....
Darin, so glad you are back! Aaakkk, to allergies. I am suffering miserably this year, and when that cool breeze came in, something came with it. Put that menthol product on your feet, with socks at night, it can clear up your head. I know, that is strange...but it works for many. We use petro jelly for nose dryness, post bleed, cracked skin. Great stuff and cheap! Cheryl, great loss, you will be in the 150s soon! Hi Becky, take a picture of your daughter's face when she sees you after your loss....that is awesome! Hi Healthy, can't even remember what pizza taste like! Age 3 and 15 months, you have your hands full. I have two girls too! Such fun. I love red wine, but limit it to 5 oz if I have any. DH just had a crate come in, so looks like "tis the season" is coming up. I make certain I have it with food too, that seems to slow down the insulin reaction. Hi Nicki, hope you are doing okay! Oceana, you sound so much better, hope you are well now and keep that good spirit going! Welcome back Shelly, I was thinking about you yesterday! Darin, your calculations depressed me....I am still goaling for 120....eventually, how can 7 darned lbs be such a difficult goal????? ![]() I have to go back to work, I am sooo tired, been up since 3am. Talk to you all later. |

!! That is what I thought too. I didn't get zapped with it till the cold front moved through. I was experiencing a little expectoration just prior to the allergy symptoms so maybe that combined with whatever came in through the front is whupping me.

I still keep going on and off plan. Carbing out a little too. This is day 27 smoke free. I think I am going to shoot for restarting on day 30 depending on how the cravings are working out. Today wasn't too bad so that is good.

When I was around 8 I would get nose bleeds a lot, my dr said it was from the weather and my nose always being so dry. He suggested taking a Q-tip with Vaseline on it and every morning and night putting some up there.
He also said to do it if it started bleeding and it really worked!! Then I stopped getting them after awhile. |
