Nope. Just an interesting story about how Winn-Dixie became what it was about 20 years ago

DD would appreciate it

I can't for the life of me remember the title and that dang 'Remembering Winn-Dixie' is all you get back for google hits.

Fish is a high protein low cal item so you have t tweak your day and watch your fish ounces and grams to keep things from getting out of whack.

Your numbers looked good anyway.

How did your fish soup turn out???

weigh-in 10142012

Weigh-in this morning ... ... ... 188.5!

heh back down again. Still .2 up from my newest low day before yesterday which was 188.3. So the numbers have been fluctuating but the range is pretty tight and still trending down. I'm sure if I'd have slept in I would have gotten lower than 188.3.

Interesting too is that yesterday was one of my higher calorie days but I ate the heaviest (weight-wise) foods earlier in the day. And I mentioned being curious about getting hungry later in the evening doing that --- I didn't get hungry.

Today I am going to save the calories from HWC with my second batch of coffee for later in the day.

Good morning PC

Up .2? After all that running around yesterday and only eating 1100 calories? I'd guess that is water. Your 3 day average is still down 1.2

New to group

Hi all! I'm thrilled to find this group. I'm a 45 yr old mom that has been struggling for awhile. I had this whole weight thing pretty much under control til about 6 months ago and now I am about 15 lbs above where I "should" be. Had hormones checked, good there. I have always eaten low carb, but nothing is working for me right now. I think this eating plan may be the one I need. I am starting today, weighed myself (boo) and measured. Ate breakfast of egg, butter, sausage and cream cheese. Almost perfect 80/15/5. Help is needed though! I am traveling the next 3 days. Any help on things to eat on the road? Thanks for all your help!

Good morning everyone! I totally forgot to post my menu yesterday

Breakfast/lunch: cream cheese omlette, 4 slices of bacon, and half a cup ro-tel tomatoes on top.. I are half for breakfast and half for lunch..
Dinner was the seafood soup, omg amazing, I used butter, and bacon fat, and hwc, shrimp, salmon, and shark... If anyone is interested I'll deff post the recipe in the recipe room...

I was going to totally accept a gain today of up to half a pound, so i'm very excited and grateful. You guys are great and I wouldn't be able to it with out you!

Welcome Amy!

I don't have any current experience with 80/15/5 NK on the road but maybe someone else will chime in for us.

Probably it will come down to choosing the lesser of two evils. Watch out for hidden carbs. Tell the wait staff that you are very gluten intolerant and have a wheat allergy and that will zap a lot of evil right there.

Kerry posted a great thread in the lobby for the text of a card for restaurant eaters.

Great Idea for those of you eating out...

A guideline I would use for food choices is non-PUFA fats, then proteins without added carbs from sauces or marinades, then LC friendly veggies.

Generally it is going to be a lot easier to eat 'pure' protein like steaks than high non-PUFA fats. Because of the travel situation and the short term nature of it, I wouldn't worry too much about macros. I think that a few days of having a high protein macro as long as carbs are minimal shouldn't be too hard to recover from even if there is a little weight gain.

Oh! Buffy just got back from a trip so when she comes on line she has some fresh insight about travel with NK.

Deborah too, although she wasn't traveling she had a special week for eating out so she has some fresh tips.

Hello, I am going to jump in here. I have not read your whole very long thread, but did read your intro and think this will basically work with the program I am working on right now.

Zay is pulling me back into the LC threads, but we used to do the daily weigh in. I don't weigh in anymore so I don't feel comfy jumping in there. But I think I can feel good about being over here.

The program I am doing is from the book The Smarter Science of Slim. The emphasis there is to start with your protein, getting between 120g and 200g. Then to get at least 10 non-starchy vegetables, mostly green. Then to let fat fall where it may, being mindful of where you get it from. Well of course since fat is higher in calories per gram it is pretty easy to get that up where it needs to be.

I use an online tracker, and it doesn't give percentages, so I really don't know what mine are. But I am pushing myself to get on the track today.

One of the points of the SSoS program is to stay off the scale, which I will be doing until just before Christmas. This way I can focus on learning to do the food and not be constantly tweaking every time I get on the scale.

I just posted this on the other NK thread but I thought I'd post it here too since you guys were talking about doing an exercise challenge of some sort.

The blurb for the podcast:

These days, exercise has been relegated to forcing yourself to hop on a treadmill for 30-60 minutes a day or engage in rigorous weight lifting as a means for losing weight and getting stronger. But what if you could get the benefits of cardiovascular exercise AND resistance training in just 15-20 minutes a WEEK? That’s precisely what New York slow lifting fitness expert Fred Hahn prescribes for his clients and what he has outlined in his outstanding book entitled Slow Burn Fitness Revolution co-written with Drs. Mike and Mary Dan Eades. He’s also written a follow-up book for teaching children the benefits of proper strength training called Strong Kids, Healthy Kids. This week’s topic is “All Things Slow Lifting (Slow Burn 101).” Have you ever wanted to know why lifting at a slower pace less frequently is preferred over traditional weight lifting at a faster speed and more often? Fred Hahn is the man to answer YOUR questions about it!
I'm going to try to listen to this today and if it makes sense and I have what I need to get started, I may start a thread on an exercise challenge for us. If I do a thread like that it won't be specific to Slow Burn so we can all participate with whatever we are doing for activities.

What do ya'll think?

I think there may be some threads in the muscle forum about slow burning.
I know I have read about it in the past. I wish I could just stop being a lazy fart about exercise. I have everything I need but just can't stick to it. I even have p90x, brazilian buttlift, chalean extreme, tons of other videos.

By the way, Deborah is the reason I am even considering it

Due to her insistence at an avatar photo, I've been trying to get a good picture of myself and while doing that I discovered that my arms have become stick thin looking. I made an oblique reference to that when I posted that I've lost fat in every possible location with my belly fat being the last to come off.

Anyway. Consider yourself indirectly annoyed at Deborah!

Morning! Everyone is doing so well. And we all need to remember, doing well does not pertain to just weight loss. Doing well means tracking our food, working on our macros, paying attention to the foods we try to avoid, getting enough water in, if exercising, include that in our day AND feeling good. And, of course, the one biggie that we all are extremely interested in of course is weight loss and BF loss.

I was stubbornly hanging all week in the 198 range. Yesterday and today, the 197 range. So, since last Monday was 197, I don't think I am going to show a loss when I log my weight tomorrow. But strangely enough, although I little disappointed, I am not that disappointed. Because I know I am doing it right, and I know the weight loss will come. It will be slow, but if I can improve my health, I am a winner and a loser, right? And, it has been a rough week in that I didn't feel very good, but never once did I waver from our WOE, I am so proud of that. I did bump my calories up just a little bit, found I was struggling and fighting it to keep them under 1400 and I would rather lose slower than feel deprived. So now I am just trying to keep them at or under 1576, which is what the chart says I need to lose like a lb a week. That seems very comfortable to me.

Amy, to our group. Please chime in with questions, suggestions, ideas, recipes, or just chat away and let us get to know you better. Great, friendly bunch in here and this is a fairly new thread so we are all just getting to know each other. Now, Red, you have to watch out for him, he has no sense of humor at all . Seriously though, Red will help you with every ounce he has left, he has lost most of his weight, so there isn't much left, but you can count on him. Us gals, we just follow our leader, give him a bad time and all chime in and support and help each other.

Today is my birthday gang. Today 1 or more of my kids might stop by, but no special birthday dinner or cake, don't want it, don't need it. This evening I might go to the local casino that is right by my house, seriously Red, just down the road Well, okay, over the river and through the woods but a straight shot up I35 for me. Will hope for some birthday luck while there. DH asked if I wanted to go out for dinner, but I really don't. Why waste the money? He gave me a beautiful watch and card.

WOE: JUDDD

I am doing HF/LC for maintenance. I lost 35lbs with atkins, 15lbs with JUDDD to reach goal and maintained with JUDDD for a few months. I combined LC/HF and JUDDD for a little while and felt great at first but then I started having sleeping problems, anxiety, mood swings. So I decided to give up one. Kept juddding but added carbs. Did fine for a little while. Then the carb addict reared it's head and i went crazy. Gain weight, gums swollen, carb coma in about a week.
So now I've decided to stop juddding and just eat LC/HF. Started last Monday at 138. Dropped back down to 130 by Friday. Feel great! Cravings are ling gone.

So I have a few questions if that's ok?
I've been over 80% fat every day this week. Is that ok?
When you get to maintenance are you going to change anything?
Do you think this woe is ok forever?

Janette. Wow, guess your body told you pretty quickly that it wanted back on HF/LC and loved the HF.
Fat over 80% is fine, of course you know by now which fats you should and should not have. As long, as you get your minimum amount of protein required to maintain your lean body mass. Get that minimum amount of protein in first, then the carb level you want and can tolerate, then make up the rest of your diet with good fats. Often falls in at 80/15/5 percent.

I am so far from maintainence I haven't thought about it. Others can chime in here. I would guess the only change would be to slightly raise calories and or carbs if you keep losing.

From the books I am reading and the new studies, it looks like this would be the best and most healthy woe for long term. Just finished the book "Lose Weight by Eating" by Sten Skaldeman and he is maintaining his loss and fully plans on eating this way for the rest of his life. He is in his 60's and due to this newer WOE LC plan, he feels he will live a much longer life than he had expected to before he found this way of life.

I've been trying to get around 50g protein. Somedays it's been a little higher and some days a little lower. Does that sound about right?
I keep carbs 20g or less. Usually way less.

Janette, Red has a spreadsheet where he can figure your macros for you. And, there are calculators online that help you figure your calorie needs to maintain and then to lose. It depends on how tall you are, my low end of protein needs are 59, I am 5'6". Very important part of the equation so you want to make sure that is right. And yes on the carbs, most of us shoot for 20 or less, the lower the better it seems for most, but some can even tolerate more and lose. That part depends on how insulin resistant your body is. So, you are right where you want to be on the carbs.

But, you are at your goal weight, so you are just wanting to maintain, right?
