Buffy! 1# down after all that fat is sensational. My 190 gr of fat and 1950 calories yesterday resulted in a .2# loss for me which made me laugh and celebrate. But measurements are mixed and ketones are down and glucose is way up. Go figure.

Anyway, congratulations also to SouthernGirl61 on finally getting those steroids out of her body and seeing a lovely 9# loss. Excellent!!!!

Pat, you had me laughing out loud at your comment of your kids making arrangements for your funeral if they knew about fat bombs. That was too funny, and I'm in total agreement.

My cold got much worse last night. I haven't been sick with anything for probably 12 year or so....I don't do any grains and I take 6,000 IU of D a day do can't exactly "up" that and be safe. I did double up on my Vit. C. It's so weird to feel unwell, but I've been walking every morning in the 28-36 degree range, and I spent last Sat. with a friend in a small room cutting out backings for a quilt project and she was VERY ill that night, so whatever she had, I'm sure she helped share it with me, and hubby has also been sick, so...guess I just didn't manage to avoid it this time.

I'm going to make sure I get in my protein today....it's been low for about a week compared to what I'm used to. My average weight for this last week is exactly the same as last weeks average, so I guess it's good I didn't gain. I have only been doing the lower protein and higher fat since the 1st of October, and the TBSP of CO at night for 2 nights. So, I'm looking forward to next weeks reading/measurements, etc.

Hooray!!!!!

Wonderful!

Not wonderful!!!!

Shelley I have had excellent success with the stuff called Zicam. I usually take the meltaways but if you get some get the homeopathic. They came out with a more traditional version that has OTC medicine ingredients.

I haven't taken any with this threat of a cold because I'm doing a little self-experiment to see if I'll actually catch it or if I am healthy enough to avoid it. Pre-LC(wheat-free) I'd have already caught it.

Me too. I think I cut back a bit too much because I've been getting cramps again. So I'm actively upping the water at least a couple of bottles a day. I've been making sure to salt everything a lot too.

Sorry, but it is hard to remember every ones stats as we are getting to know each other, but remind me. Are you diabetic? What are your FBG readings averaging?

Right now just concentrate on getting well, not weight loss although it might surprise you. Hard to get an accurate picture when your body is fighting off illness. Sorry you are feeling bad

My, but it is hard to get that HF, enough protein and keep the calories low. I had to go into my menu for today and change the beef I had planned for dinner, to fish and still barely made my protein requirement. I am just playing around today with almost 0 carb so basically I am eating meat, egg, fish and fat!! Just for today though, I don't want to routinely keep carbs that low
Hi Buffy....answering your questions. First, yes I thought it was pretty funny that I could eat 1950 calories and 190 grams of fat and still lose .2# overnight. Love it.

I am not diabetic, but have been worried about it for several years. None of the docs I've seen are concerned....they all say "until it gets to 120, we have no need to do anything". No wonder so many people are diabetic if that's the attitude of docs. They have NO CLUE that I'm gluten/grain free, eat 85/15/5 and haven't had sugar in many years of any kind. I am doing my glucose readings first thing in the AM when I do the ketones...the meter is ready, the strips for glucose are relatively cheap and so since I have "extra blood", why not. I have ranged from 88 to 125! I think Dottie is right about the NovaMax for glucose being way off. I got out my 2nd meter (ordered 2 "kits" for teh ketone strips!) and test with a glucose strip with EACH meter. They have been 94 and 111, 112 and 125, 108 and 111. Remember, that this is the same drop of blood and the Nova Max meters...and the "funny" part is that one is not consistently low or high. They "switch" which meter is low and high. So, to me, the glucose readings are rather useless with the NovaMax.

I'm about to order one of the ones recommended on Consumer Reports as being more accurate. If anyone has a meter that they love and believe is "right on", let me know. I'm leaning towards the Freestyle freedom lite one right now. Reviews on amazon are pretty good.

With this head cold I have not at all lost my appetite or desire to eat correct foods. I just have a stuffy and runny nose (alternating) and the throat feels pretty dry. No coughing or sneezing, but the head is "stuffed up". I'll check out ZICAM tomorrow when I head to town....thanks Major!!!! :-)

Hmmm.

Maybe you are asking your docs the wrong question Shelley. I've watched a lot of House episodes and it is usually something tricky going on when things are screwy.

I think the question should be 'What could cause two different meters to read two different ways inversely off the same sample of blood?'.

Maybe there is some particle in your blood that is rarely screened for that messes with the way these meters work.

If you emailed the mfgs, they may be able to tell you. Possibly even something topical like the type of hand soap you use. Or maybe they'll say something very surprising? 'I have your meter and I am comparing the reading to another meter and both meters give different results. Is there some condition that will make a meter give incorrect results?'.

Jimmy has a podcast on glucose with a specialist. Have you heard it yet? Dunno if it has any new info for you since you are already familiar with glucose.

Google 'LLVLC-ep-591-angela-ross'.

Food Log

Numbers and log for today.

Calories: 1570

Fat: 141
Pro: 73
Car: 5

79/20/1

Breakfast: CO & coffee. I put HWC in one thermos.
Lunch: Pork skins, HWC float.
Dinner: Chicken, jalapeno, bacon.
End of day: T of CO.

I'm kinda glad I had that second thermos with HWC. I didn't end up eating anything else till 2:30 or so when I had the float and the skins a little later. Had to cook up chicken and portion it out (3oz) to throw it in the freezer. No broccoli today so I was able to save about an oz of bacon grease heh.

I can tell you that no 2 BG meters test the same, have even asked the nurses and they tell me the same.

My favorite meter is the Accu-Chek Compact Plus. it has the lancet attached to the side of it, and it holds a drum with 17 strips preloaded. So, you advance a strip, push the plungder down on the lancet, then push again to prink your finger. My Dr. gave me a new one at my last viist b/c I told her that I thought my old one was testing low and it seems it was. I buy my strips off ebay. my insurance doesn't want to cover this brand. Look it up but I think it was one of the better ones on the consumer list.

I would guess that you would test above 125 if you were not SF and LC. You should make your Dr. aware you are both of those. It appears you are controlling your high BS with diet, which is good but when I first found out I had diabetes and was strict lC, my tests were usually under 100. Are you seeing an endo or your family doc? They never mentioned a thing to me until I tested over 125, in looking bck over labs it was steadily rising each year.

Having my T of dinnertime CO in a cup of cinnamon apple tea

Shrimp looks to be the lowest. Tuna, chicken and ground turkey are about tied.

Granted that meters contradict themselves when compared with each other but Shelley's case is a bit different.

Her meters both read weird using the same blood sample. That is really strange.

Hmmmm. I'm just going to throw this out there because bad things happen once you are on to them so sort of as insurance if you know what I mean.

Dr. Baltar *did* come up with a blood test. So. Is it the meters or something else going on here?

I have tested using same drop of blood, 2 different meters, 2 different readings. When I got my ketone meter I used it, as it can be used as well for glucose, plus my normal one, same drop. Basically, before LCing, I was just looking for spikes, high and or low and how different foods affected me. Now that I am on this WOE, I have only gotten a reading above 100 once or twice. I pretty much just test in the the fasting AM now, unless I feel "off", then I test to make sure things are ok.

Maybe I need to go back and read her post, not sure what you mean by weird, I was thinking they were just always high.

I agree the Nova meter is pretty useless for BG. Get another and see where that takes you.

Even has me wondering how accurate it is for BK. Will check into the Precision one, just for kicks. But, not going to spend much on it, as I am pretty sure I am in ketosis solidly now.

No, it was two different readings but inverted between the meters. One high the other low.

Failing that, there is the fall back position of Cylon spy.

My numbers for today:
Calories 1302
Fat 129 88%
Carb 1
Protein 50 12%

Protein still too low, was just finishing my fish when company showed up and before I could find some more protein, now it is almost 8, I am not hungry so going to leave it for today. Will get it back up tomorrow for sure.
