Nutritional Ketosis?
so I know this is the art of burning body fat for energy, and its a little more complex then peeing on the strips and them turning purple.
I ordered my free meter on Jimmy Moores blog. I am familiar of 'fat burning machine' type mantra on Marks daily apple. High fat, Med Protein, Low carb.. Can people make some suggestions and things for me? I'm always interested in learning about new things. (although hubby may hang me from the roof if i buy another 'diet lifestyle' book lol) Books, sites, things to google etc.. sample menus, recepies, and of course if you are following this, your experiences and how you are doing with it.. I am guessing this isn't so much a diet, but a specific macro amt to be following? Thanks in advance! I trust you guys the most so I posted here first lol

Hi Kerry,
There are some ongoing threads at LCF about NK: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ot...is-thread.html http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ot...80-15-5-a.html http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ot...-low-carb.html High fat, low to moderate protein recipes? Lots of us are experimenting with NK, please feel free to join in! |

![]() There's an absolute gold mine of information in those threads, particularly the September NK thread and the original NK thread linked in the first post of the September one: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ot...ge-anyone.html Just to get you started, in a nutshell: Figure out your daily protein grams requirements. Eat that every day. Keep carbs low and fill out the rest with good LC fats (not polyunsaturates) to the calorie level you are interested in. Alternatively, your goal is to eat to protein grams and carb grams and set a calorie goal and not worry about fat other than it being the 3rd macro. Here is a post I made with two ways to calculate your protein needs. For calorie calculators there are many on the web. Google 'freedieting calorie calc' - it should be the first hit. That is the one I use but they should all be pretty close. Mostly it is just choosing one that has a webpage you like. |

It's really easy to use, has a great database, you can easily add your own foods and recipes, and seeing your macronutrients with it is simple. And it's free. Go to appcraver.com. Search for "Calorie Counter". It's the 4th one down. |

She's on vacation so it may be a few days before she replies to any posts but I'm pretty sure she is keeping an eye on her main thread when she gets a chance while on vacation. http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ot...is-thread.html I'm not sure how they are determining their calorie goals. You can use a SAD BMR calculator and start with those guestimates. Google 'freedieting calorie calculator' for a nice one. |

I'm not exactly sure how to set a calorie limit--the point where you stop losing is probably a good one When I was losing I was probably lower on calories than many people would choose to go (around 1200-1400). I really wanted to get down to my goal weight pretty fast, was in NK (per blood level readings), and was losing around 1-2 pounds a week (averaged) eating at that level. I hope that helps!
