WOE: 1400 cals/70g carbs/85% Primal
After reading this thread I was curious so I sent off for the Nova Max and received it within a few days.
I just tested blood sugar and it read me really high! (143 when the other 2 test in the low 70s fasting, which is normal for me)
So used the control solution and it registered that high as well.
For continuity, I decided to test on all 3 of my meters at the same time and the difference is really wide on the NM one.
(the trutest is calibrated with my dogs vet as within 2 points and the trutest and freestyle always read within 5-7pts of each other).
Now I'm wondering how "accurate" the ketone test will be if the blood sugar test is so far off the mark.
Has anyone else done a comparison test with a meter you know is accurate?
Or did I get a bad meter from nova? (ignore the times on the image below, I never set them lol- approximately 2 hours after a late breakfast today).

How many of you would recommend getting a meter w/test strips? Do you think it has made your weight loss easier? I saw the post earlier about CVS having a great deal on the test strips and would like to get in on it, but not sure how big of a difference testing makes. Thanks

I believe Terry tested his ketones with both of his meters and they were very close (.2 apart?). Not sure about the BG. I think perhaps you got a bad meter.

Hi I haven't caught up with the other thread yet but I saw a few of you comment that your skin looks better on this WOE.
I had my doc tell me to increase my fats since my skin has bcome extremely dry esp below knee. Both my dds also.Moisturizing creams including vanicream isn't helping much.
What ingredients do you think most contributed to the supple skin?It would be very helpful for me.Thanks!

Carbella, not sure which of the fats helped or if it is just the combination of increased fats but it has definitely helped in just two weeks. If you want to try the coconut oil, the cheapest route is the LouAnn brand in the cooking oils section of walmart, can both eat it and use it on your skin. It doesn't taste like coconut either if that part would bother you, I love coconut but don't want to fry my meat in it. I keep a little container of it in the bathroom and use it on my body but finding I don't need nearly as much moisturizer as I did.

Now, with that in mind, we are all eating a large amount of fats on this diet, so consuming lots of the oils.

Still somewhat stalled and retaining water-I am going to not change anything for a full month (Oct.1) and then see if I have to tweak anything. So far I am doing well only eating when hungry, have lowered protein and eat little fat bombs if hunger returns-will see how this plays out. I think sometimes I have given up too quickly on plans before really giving them a fair chance to work.

Drink lots and lots of water, helps with the fluid retention. Also, what you have eaten or TOM makes a difference. I ate crab legs last night, they are high in sodium and I could tell it this morning. Drinking lots of water to day to flush it out.

Thanks.I have been using CO on my skin for years since my childhood.I also use olive oil and CO for most of my cooking.but that hasn't helped so maybe I have extreme case of dry skin.
Maybe it is the overall intake of higher fat?I guess I will have to find out.I was wondering if eating avocadoes/fish /nut butters/HWC made a difference since I don't eat much of those.

That's just where you want to be--anywhere from 1.5 to 3.0 is great. Anywhere above 0.5 may be officially in ketosis, but 1.5 to 3.0 is the ideal range, according to Phinney and Volek. There's no added advantage to going over 3.0.

I have seen 1 or 2 other complaints that the blood glucose readings aren't in line with other people's meters. On the ketones...hard to know? But seems like people that report their readings are having fairly consistent readings from day to day.

I'm happy with the blood glucose meter I have already so probably won't use the other one (when or if it ever arrives).

Paula, I still use my Accuchek Compact Plus for my BG readings, I love it b/c you can load a cartridge of strips in it so don't have to insert one each time you take a reading, and it has the lancing device built right in. I have gotten so good now, I get them both ready to go, prink my finger once and can use the same drop of blood for both strips. Woot woot

Whew. Long day here. And some cravings struggles. I assume it's hormonal.

And I really was not a fan of keeping fat and calories lower today, I'm such a wimp about deprivation!

Here were my numbers for today:

My totals today:

Cal - 1512
Fats - 142 - 83.6%
Pro - 48 - 12.5%
Carbs - 15 - 3,9%

Calories a little higher than I had hoped but that is what I needed to get my protein up by the end of the day. I didn't plan the whole day in advance like I sometimes do. That helps.

Hi everyone,

Wouldn't you know it I ordered four boxes of ketone strips from ADW today and just read about the CVS coupon code. Darn!

I've finished my first full week almost fully in ketosis (only one morning last Wed when I was 0.4) and am back to my lowest waist/weight measurements ever. Unfortunately I had a nasty bout of food poisoning on a camping trip this weekend though so my appetite has been zilch and I've eaten way less than normal. Maybe I should write a book on how a combination of ketosis and norovirus leads to the best results.

I had the blood work done for my thyroid and food allergies and am now awaiting the results. Faster please!

My mother passed out twice recently from low blood sugar so the doc tested her glucose and says she is pre-diabetic. So he gave her a chart of fruits to eat - can you believe it?!? He says she can have eight raisins or ten grapes a day. Isn't that like diagnosing someone with lung cancer and then telling them to just cut back to a half pack?

I can well imagine that people trained at this site aren't likely to go that high!

Hopefully that helps a few of you.

Fat Bomb

When one says "I had another fat bomb" how much are they referring to? My entire recipe is 600 cal and is 2 servings. Are they saying 2 fat bombs = entire recipe?

My fat bombs are 70 calories each and 1 net carb. I guess it would all depend on how big you make them.

I am down to 228.5 this morning down from 229.3 yesterday. I think it's working!! Here's my menu from yesterday.
B-pumpkin pie shake
L-3oz.tuna w/mayo, garden salad w/EVOO and red wine vinegar
D-3oz.stew meat, 1/2 creamed spinach
S-1 fat bomb

Learning to curb my protein has been the hardest, but I'm finding that I don't feel hungry all of the time now that I've cut it way back.

Mike, google 'LLVLC-ep-593-dr-keith-runyan' and it should be the first hit.

Good morning everyone!!

Yesterdays maintenance intake:
Carbs: 23.7 (4%)
Protein: 63.5 (16%)
Fat: 137.3 (79%)
Calories: 1558
This morning:
Ketones: 1.0
BG: 96
Weight: 150.6 (down 1 pound)

I wasn't that hungry yesterday after the weekend's indulgences. My weight is heading back down and my ketones are heading back up. I don't know what to think about my BG. I'll keep tracking to see how that goes.

It sounds like everyone is doing great!! Congratulations Mike on your lowest weight and measurements ever.

Thanks again to Ella for alerting us to the great CVS deal on Nova strips yesterday. I'm sorry that they were so popular that they were out of stock by the time some people tried to get them. I have 9 more days of my 30 day run of testing my maintenance intake and I'm glad to have more strips to continue this experiment even beyond that!
