so 1oz of protein is how many grams??? Or my questions is, how many oz of protein is 54g ? How do use the grams to eat your right amount of protein,fat and carbs ? Sorry....I am a little confused. I probably need to use some sort of tracker.

Weigh-in this morning ... drum roll please .... 201.3!!
lol dang it Although I never did change my profile stats *and* I wore my lucky shirt to bed last night *and* I gently bathed and cuddled the scale I was betrayed. On the other hand, I did measure my waist (belly button level) on the 10th and it was 44 and yesterday when I got my all time low it was 42.5 and this morning, dispite the bump on the scale it was 42.2. I'm curious to see what tomorrow brings. Onward! |

![]() Congrats you are kicking butt! Yes, absolutely set a new goal. My short term goal is to break the 200 mark. My next goal is 190. My goal after that is 185. When I get to 190ish I'll reevaluate the after 185 goal. |

I upped my fat by putting hwc in coffee and eating fat bombs ( yum ) I also add coconut oil in my diet I eat 2 eggs ever morning with 1 tbs coconut oil makes your eggs taste great!i was only eating 1000 cals when I got then up to 1400 I lost,they are right your body goes in to starvation mode and you stop losing. Any thing I can help with let me no!!
Don't forget to ask Red to do your #.. Follow to a T and you will lose |

Here ya go: The formula that I use, created by Dr. Jan Kwasniewski, is: ((Height in cm)-100) +/-10% = Protein Grams [ I use the -10% number] Fat grams = P*2.5 Carb grams = P*.5 ...which results in this: Protein:61 Fat:152 Carbs: 30 Total calories: 1735 Please let me know if you have any questions |

![]() glad to see your sense of humor shine through!!!Ok, did you do the 2 out of three weighs?, where you get on the scale 3 times and toss out the 2 highest? Doesn't work on my tanita b/c that darn thing reads exactly the same each time. Did you try to use the toilet just one more time? Did it before using any eye drops or deodorant? You know how much those weigh!!! I predict you will have a whoosh soon. I lost over 6 lbs last week and so far this, my 2nd week, I have not lost any, but this morning I am back to my low of last week so I have my fingers crossed that by Monday when I post my weight I can show a loss to you all. ![]()

Red, do the calculations you use take activity level into account? I am lazy, or I mean sedentary :-) and so I am keeping my calories below what I see most of your calculations come out at. I would really love to eat more calories now, so that as I get smaller if I have to cut back I will have the wiggle room to do so. I guess the only way I will find out is to do the tweaking I know I will have to do along the way. I guess I am just so scared of the higher calories b/c back when I started LC in the early 2000's people were all, eat all you want, just very few carbs and I was packing in 2500 or more calories a day and guess what? I didn't lose but then when I tried to cut back to say 1400 or so, man, I thought I was starving. These days I don't have as big of an appetite so it is easier to stay at around 1400 but I don't want to shortchange myself. Does any of that make sense???

Sorry almost missed your question.
I use ****** for my food log. I tell you what, it has some serious deficiencies for having been around as long as it has been. Just yesterday, I tried to add a cup of unsweetened Almond Milk to my log and it isn't on the built in food list. Lots of 'almond' related stuff but no actual plain old almond milk. There are others that are popular but I do not know what their drawbacks may be. If you are just starting logging then try out a few of them before you settle on one. Or, better yet, use two or three at the same time. That will give you a great chance to evaluate them against each other. ****** has a premium thing but I just use the free part of the site. And they are not pro-LC so just ignore any of the warning flags that might pop up trying to scare you into staying overweight by eating 'normally'. For ******, here are a couple of tips to get around some of the deficiencies with it. #1 - If you can't find something on the list, google '****** itemName list' to see if you can discover the name it is listed under if it is on the list. |

3 identical times. heh I massaged my belly, as per directions I found on the internet, to no avail for the hoped for drop in total body mass with the morning constitutional. I had lathered up my whole body with shaving cream thinking that excess body hair is really just vanity but having a smooth body and shaved head seemed extreme along with contemplating the trade off of razor burn in various areas. =) |

[QUOTE=reddarin;15943796]Sorry almost missed your question.
I use ****** for my food log. I tell you what, it has some serious deficiencies for having been around as long as it has been. END of quote I found a free one by googling that I am really beginning to like now that I have used it for a week and 1/2. They all take a while to get used to. I'm not allowed to post the link to it though. The only thing I dislike about it is that it has a lot of ads all over the page that take up space so you have to constantly move up and down on the page, but that is the only thing I don't like. You can plug in your nutritional goals and it uses those for your daily goals and reports. It will show you their recommended ones but doesn't slap you on the wrist for your LC ones. What I do like is that if what you are looking for isn't in their database, since it is a public one, they also show lists of entrys by others who usually have already entered what you are looking for. Just check the nutrition on their entry to make sure it matches what you are looking for, then you can save it as one of your favorites. Last edited by Buffy45; 09-14-2012 at 07:48 AM.. |

But although I use the low numbers for the formula, they are actually a range. Protein is +/-10% of the median. Fat is P*2.5 to 3.5 So, if you were really active you can adjust protein and fat upwards a lot. What the doc is doing is determining your lean body mass based on your height and protecting it by the resulting daily minimum requirement of protein grams. That means that if you do eat less than the formula you need to try hard to get the protein grams in for the day even if it stalls you because if you eat a lot less than the required protein you are only losing muscle/bone/not-fat mass. In my non-doctor opinion, a day every now and then won't derail you if it isn't carbs that you binge on. I mean, a super high protein and low fat day but still low carb will knock you out of ketosis but it isn't the same sort of knock out that carbs do to you. I think the occasional protein glucogenisis is much less impactful (which doesn't seem to be a word) for regaining a more continuous state of ketosis than a carb binge would be. Quote:
I was surprised, last year, after I started logging my food, that I was way over eating. That is when I realized that I was eating from habit not hunger. After that I played around with it and would see how long I could go between calorie consumption. Some days I was 1500ish calories below the BMR for maintenance Of course, that triggers starvation mode so I didn't keep doing it after it stalled me a few times lol. |

You can only stare at it longingly while dreading the hassle of creating your own. I tell you what, I wish I'd have done what I heartily recommend now, which is to use 2 or 3 at the same time when you first start out so you can compare daily ease of use before settling on one. [edit: I did use two or three others. I didn't use them all at the same time for a week or two.] It is too late for me. My year long history is at ******. I'm too harsh about them though lol. I do like a lot about the food log =) Last edited by reddarin; 09-14-2012 at 08:19 AM.. Reason: for clarification about food logging |
