Hey me too. Just because I'm up in Toronto I'm not that out of the way. I would like to be a part of this group. I like Texans. Red, i hope you can help me get back on track. I think i lowered my fat intake so much and kept protein too high that i find myself gaining. I am in ketosis, the taste in my mouth is so gross! Does that mean that i am in nutritional ketosis?

Canada is a beautiful country. Welcome to the group you were already part of it though We'll get you there! Ketosis is ketosis. The 'nutritional' distinction is more descriptive than stateful. The focus being getting required protein but fat and carbs proportionately. That is a bit different from the ketosis most LC plans pursue which don't really have much to say about protein or, really, fat, but are very focused on carb limits. See ya tomorrow. |

Congrats to you losers, my scale is a lb up
but will see what my weekly weigh in next Monday shows. After such a nice loss the first week it is always sooo hard to see the scale move slowly but I know that is the way it works for most of us. |

Hi Buffy
How are you doing on your grams and percentages? Don't get discouraged about the small gain. It is less than a bottle of water and my experience has been that when you weigh has a lot of impact on what the scale says. Like, if I go to bed late and get up early I will show a gain. But if I go to bed at a reasonable time and get up at a reasonable time I will lose or be the same. If I sleep in it is usually a loss. What I've been doing, since joining this thread, is eating dinner before 6pm and as close to 5pm as possible. I don't eat anything else after that - not hungry. I get up at 5am and weigh by 5:30 usually. I don't eat or drink anything before I weigh in either. |

I can't do that for instance because I have to take thyroid pills and before I even get up I have to have a glass of water with the meds....:-/
But I did notice that if I sleep a bit longer (almost never happens) that I weigh less...interesting I also try to eat as early as possible and nothing after.....I want my belly to be as empty as possible during the night. I get way better sleep that way |

Thanks Darin for bringing that up. I did sleep late yesterday and weighed later, I know it fluctuates and can easily tell someone else not to worry but when it is yourself you always have these pangs of doubt.
Here are yesterday's totals: Calories 1649 Pro 61 - 14.8% Carb 13 - 3.2% Fat 151 - 82% And last night my ketone reading was 1.7, so I was elated. This morning though, it is 0.4, so I am not firmly planted where I want to be yet. But, only on day 11 so I feel everything is going in the right direction.

I am 5'5" and 1/2 OR 5'6" if I round it.My current weight is 193.age 33
Mostly sedentary due to foot injury, might throw in a few 2 hour walk/swim once a while. So where do I get this calculator for ratios? Is there a link or formula that u use?i have been reading up a few threads on this and sure makes my head reeling with all those math ![]() I see that HWC,sour cream ,nut butters, mayo etc are being used in recipes. These are stallers for me,so how does one make it work?? What r ur experiences on that? In regard to the qn on NK,I remember DR Atkins saying this in his book DANDR 2000,that don't gorge on protein, but eat only moderate amounts since excess gets converted to fat.He also says dietary fat has the most minimal insulin response. But I believe he doesn't go onto demonstrate in detail what he said about fat. ![]() Quote:
Thanks all ,this is an interesting thread. ![]()

Give me a little bit and I'll explain the one I've been using in this thread. There is at least one other way to do it that is based on estimated lean body mass but I am not real familiar with it. |

67.64 rounded up - 68. +/-10% range is 61 to 75 grams protein. 61g * 2.5 = 152g Fat 61g * 0.5 = 030g Carbs So, 152/61/30 grams F/P/C Calories work out to: 0244 P 1368 F 0120 C ------- 1732 Daily I typically do not eat anywhere near the amount of carbs that the formula gives me which is 37. Even counting all carbs not net carbs. And I use the calorie total as a guideline only. If I miss it or exceed it a bit I don't care. |

ty so much darin. I used the 25% calculation and the numbers are bout the same..and yes I don't eat over 20gr in carbs....I always try to stay under...I am super sensitive. Ty, ty, ty.....so this is a maintenance right...so to lose weight I would have to do it with my goal weight??????on the other my goal weight would be 143lbs if I understand correctly????

Take your height in cm - 100. That is your base protein requirement in grams. So 66" = 167.64cm is 68g protein. Then your protein range is +/-10% Fat and Carbs are based off of protein. P*2.5 to 3.5 = F. P*.5 = C. For you, the formula produces what I just posted for Christina: 67.64 rounded up - 68. +/-10% range is 61 to 75 grams protein. 61g * 2.5 = 152g Fat 61g * 0.5 = 030g Carbs So, 152/61/30 grams F/P/C Calories work out to: 0244 P 1368 F 0120 C ------- 1732 Daily Quote:
Are you stalled out currently? Just curious about why you are interested in changing what you are doing if you aren't stalled =) Quote:
That is why LC works so well for most people. Have you seen Fat Head the movie? Tom Naughton does a great job of explaining that process. And it is a very cool movie. Youtube has a legitimate copy you can watch for free. Tom gets paid on the advertising that is used when you watch the official youtube release. |

No, the figures I used are not maintenance - you will lose weight all things being equal. The formula the good Dr. produced uses a range for protein *and* a range for fat so it is very flexible for loss/maintain/gain. I used the low number for both ranges for you and for everyone that I've done the formula for including me. Look back through my posts and I'll see my food logs and graphs for two days. Both days I was only a little under on protein and either at or a little under on fat. No. The goal weight thing is used in the other formula that is based on estimated lean body mass. The formula I used is based solely on your height. That is confusing though lol cause both formulas were brought up in the other thread. But I think everyone over there is using the lean body mass formula and I am the only one using the height formula. |
