Okay, I only got through a little more than 20 minutes of Insanity today. Every day I have to push myself to go just a little bit further. My first impression? It's hard. I think there should be stronger warnings about pacing yourself if, for some reason, you choose to do this workout when you are just starting to exercise. I have been halfway exercising for months, and I was dripping pouring sweat, really proud of myself for really digging in, until I heard him say something like, "Great warmup!"

WTH? Warmup? You mean I haven't even gotten to the "real" workout yet?!

That said, there is no way you won't get yourself in great shape if you do it.

Aww thanx, you are too sweet! When I saw it advertised, I did think (know) "I can't do this." But I also know that I WILL be able to do this with time and effort.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that P90x made you gain. I've heard that one is hard too, and to go through all that and gain? So frustrating! Are you planning to take classes at the gym, or mostly weights and cardio machines?

heh I didn't feel much guilt over it =)

I got a very good recipe for a rub from a book called Barbeques 101. Texas Chili Rub. Really, that book is just an awesome book on the nuts and bolts of BBQ'ing. I used to ruin steaks so regularly that I'd sworn off grilling till I found this book at Barnes and Nobles.

Ribs are my kryptonite!! Even if I've eaten I'm guaranteed to go over on protein and calories. But they are sooooo good.

I'm gonna blame the author of that BBQ book lol. Sooooooo tasty!

They are excellent with just the rub. Before LC I used to slather them with BBQ sauce and glaze them. OMG!! Spare ribs or country ribs - both awesome. I'll get some LC bbq sauce and try them that way sometime but it may be next season.

I'm open to recommendations on LC bbq sauce

Rick Rodgers
ISBN: 0-7679-0673-x

Amazon doesn't carry it

But used places do.
It really is a 101 book. So there isn't really anything earth shattering in it but the recipes I've tried are excellent. And if your BBQ's aren't cooking up scrumptious food then it will fix it I think. I was pretty bad by anyone's standards before I got it and I can flat cook up some ribs and steaks now, modesty aside.

=)

I just put the book on hold at the library. I like the Guy's SF spicy BBQ that you can buy right here from Netrition. I tried all of the Guy's flavors and this one was my favorite.

Hmmm. Rick's got a recipe for a homemade bbq sauce in the book. It isn't bad but I always liked the store bought ones better.

But I bet I could tweak it for an LC version.

Ah. Amazon does have it. Weird. When I searched for it with the ISBN it didn't find it there but when I googled for it an Amazon link was in the results. So you can get it through Amazon or lots of used book stores.

Google 'rick rodgers 076790673x'

Abebooks has it for under $4 right now *with* shipping. Pretty cool.

Rick Rodgers taught bbq classes.

The way he does ribs is to rub them, oil them if they are the type that needs it, double wrap in HD foil and grill for x amount of time (an hour usually). Then take them out of the foil, brush them with sauce and grill a little bit to glaze them. The meat falls off the bones. But he gives the complete steps. I have done lots of batches of ribs using his method/steps and have always had stellar results.

Oh! I should have mentioned. I got the book in 2000 which is probably why it is no longer sold directly by Amazon. If I recall correctly, I had just had a good steak my father had grilled and was sitting at the computer wondering just why the heck his steaks always seemed to be so good and mine always turned out so bad.

So I googled how to grill a steak or something like that and found Rick's book at B&N. The reviews were good so I drove across town and bought it.

The rest is history.

weigh-in 09222012

Weigh-in this morning.... .... .... ... ... 196.7!!!!

Apparently, a pound of pork rib meat is my trigger

Perhaps there is an extra-dimensional nature to these things whereby I see a nice scale reading the morning after but the next morning the weight rematerializes in this dimension producing a bounce? I'll call George Nory tonight and run it by him.

Empirical testing is very important so in the interest of science I am going to eat 2 pounds of pork ribs today to see if I get 194 on the scale tomorrow.

I posted this over on the NK thread as well:

I hit my highest ketone reading this morning since I started testing. 1.6, I am now in the optimal zone. 1.5 - 3. I quit testing at night b/c I am not eating anything off plan and they are lowest in the AM, so as long as I am good in the AM, I don't need to waste that strip at night. Once I stay above 1.5, I will cut that testing in the AM back some as well.

Almost finished with my third week and couldn't be happier I found this WOE.
