workout with an Inguinal hernia

I know this is more common in men, but I was just diagnosed with a reducable inguinal hernia.
I love my gym workouts and realize that heavy lifting is out, but I was wondering if anyone here at LCF is knowledable about going to the gym with this condition.
Ps. I saw my doctor who said a "wait and watch" approach is ok. I don't want surgery unless absolutely necessary. He doesn't know alot gym type workouts but said treadmill, stationary bike and very light dumbells to maintain muscle tone would prolly be ok.
I'm wondering how to keep my abs toned up without exacerbating the condition.
Any help or pointing me in a direction would be most appreciated.

I'd go to a sport med type dr and let them advise what you can do.
