Best strength training DVD's
For beginners, but not too kitchy, if you know what I mean. I haven't worked out in years, so I will be a beginner again, but I do know the basics. I would like something with decent music, a good instructor, etc. Can anyone suggest one/some? I hope to be able to purchase at Walmart.

When you say "strength training", do you mean heavy weights? Or do you also like body weight exercises?

Thanks, and no not heavy weights. I am a beginner. I am able to find beginner DVD's. What I was interested in is someone else's experience. I hate to spend money on something that, when I bring it home, I hate, lol. I haven't looked at the Biggest Loser DVD's except online. Again, never know till you buy and try, I guess.

Jillian Michaels DVDs kick your butt and are a mix or cardio, strength training with weights, and some that use your own body weight. They are intense but work great! They are usually about $10 at Walmart. I've lost quite a bit of weight with them in the past, so I highly recommend!

I'm for Chalean also! I've done The Firm in the past but Chalean is much better to me. It's much easier on my joints.

Hi!
Question about strength training. I have a bow-flex type machine. It came without a dvd, just cards to show the form, no advice on reps. My question is... to slim & firm do you do more reps with less weight? Or more weight with less reps? Thanks so much for any help. |

it is very hard as a woman to bulk. I would just go heavy enoughthat when you get to 10 to 12 reps you fail. and focus on form and going slow.... I would look on YouTube, I bet there is hundred if not thousands of videos...

That's interesting. I have not been going slow. So I guess watching a YouTube video would really help. |

From reading a lot about building muscle, the best method is slow reps keeping good form and control from begining of rep to end. If you go too fast you are using gravity and momentum to move the weight and not so much of your muscle. As it was said, 10 -12 reps should get you to failure. If not your weights are too light.

Beginning with weights too!
LibraryGirl,
I'm just starting with 8 lb dumbells for shoulders and arms. I've just been using some You Tube videos to start out. There are some good ones to work out with. |

I followed the advice above and got Chalean Extreme and I'm definitely not regretting it. I'm 5 days in and feeling great! I do shout at the tv a bit while i'm doing it but she is really motivational.
