Newbie lifting weights...advise needed..!

Hi there,

I have just started a weights programme at the gym.. normally I just go to the gym and muck around on a few cardio machines but now I have decided that I dont want to be a smaller version of the shape I am in at the moment and really want to shape my body.. so weights are the way to go. I have been getting up at dawn every day and doing weights this past couple of weeks.. alternating between upper and lower body and cardio in between. Been doing 4 sets per muscle and upping the weight as I am decreasing the weights a la Body for life! LOVING IT! I have not however had a good few days eating wise. . we have had a few social occasions where eating right has gone out of the window. I am devastated to jump on the scales this morning and see that i have put on a few kilos.! I am back to my starting weight! Would this likely be due to the fact that I have started lifting weights (and increasing my protein intake) or am I kidding myself? Is it too soon for the weight gain to be down to weight training?

Thoughts and advice please! Thank you...
