lots of quesions...
I keep my car count below 25 carbs a day. I eat 5 to 6 meals a day and each meal will usually have 3 to 4 carbs in it. I usually workout (very intense)4-5 days a week and do sets of 40 push ups every hour for the first 10 hours of my day. my body fat is probly somewhere between 11 to 12 percent and I weigh in at 185. I would like to be closer to 177-178.
Now, does it matter that with my high activity level and the amout of carbs i intake? As in, could I consume up to 30 or 35 carbs and stay in a strong state of Keto because I am.so.active? Or would I burn more fat the closer I ate to zero carbs? How would I know when it is time to do my carb day? And does that carb day take me out of Keto? If so, how long does it take to get back into ketosis after the carb day? I was doing mon- Fri Keto and did my carb up days on sat- sun. But I didn't feel like it was working. I think a 5 day split is to short. Because if it takes a few days to get back into ketosis, I'm actually only doing Keto for 2-3 days out of the week. Which would explain my lack of body fat loss. I love doing low carb. I always have much more energy and actually enjoy my food and feel full. so I do not want to switch onto something else, but I need to get down to where I want to be. Ps, I do control my calories between 1700-2000 daily. |

You apparently like eating keto style, and from what I read, seem to have no energy issues eating that few carbs. Your main objective, it seems, is to lose more fat. You can do that with extra carbs, or without extra carbs. What really matters is WHAT you're eating, how MUCH you're eating, and how stagnated your body is with what you've been doing day in and day out. If your body has adapted to your current menu and/or exercise plan(s), it's going to be content to stay where it is. You can shake all of that up in a myriad of ways -- macronutrient adjustments, carb rotations, calorie rotations, more intense training, post-training cardio (for fat burn), the list goes on. "Shake it up, baby," is my point. Eating as many as 30-35 carbs a day (really?) is not gonna knock you out of ketosis if you're active -- if you're that worried about ketosis. Most people increase carbs for either extra energy, better sense of "balance" in how they feel/function/etc., or to shake up the metabolism. Bottom line: If you're wanting to lose more, you just need to work your program and mix it up. Ketosis isn't the be all end all magic answer to burning fat. It's a wonderful thing, granted, but it's not the only way.

Sounds like he has read about carb cycling on body building sites etc......I haven't tried it but from what I have read about it yes I've seen the people who do the carb up day it is one day a week or sometimes even just one meal.

I eat pretty clean. No breads or dairy. Nothing fried and no fast foods at all. And as much natural unprocessed foods as possible. I also get my fats mainly from uncooked olive oil, coconut oil, and fish oil. Foods I consume to get my healthy fats are chia seeds, flax seeds, and various nuts. I eat almost the same thing every day to keep control of my carb/calorie intake instead of guessing.
Since I don't really like the idea of carb cycling, do you think its a good idea to "shake it up" by calorie cycling? I am also going to try one carb up day instead of two every 7th day. |
