Atkins Under Investigation...

Tom Venuto is one of the most intelligent, rational minded individuals I have ever read when it comes to weight and body composition. This blog was written by a guest blogger but Tom has several comments at the bottom. Well worth reading!

I've always said that weight loss comes from calorie deficit, no matter the diet. I will say I feel better on a moderate carb diet vs a higher carb, low fat diet. I see the appeal as Atkins does get you off the insulin roller coaster making it easier to follow. I think there is a mild (100-150 calorie) metabolic advantage to high protein as the body does have to work to break it down more than fat or carbs but I'm not so sure that advantage persists with high fat, mod protein which is closer to Atkins.
