Oh, I know - this chick used to buy Healthy choice meals, snarf them down, then wonder why she was hungry again in an hour. I tried to explain to her more than once about how all that low-fat, high carb processed crap she was always eating would only make her gain weight, but no, she always knew better...

OMG, I just now realized that you live in the Atlanta area, Ileen. Wow, small world - I'm on the west side!

Yep, I cut her off once I realized how she really was - very controlling, very manipulative (she kept another woman & I from becoming good friends by telling us each BS about the other for over a year), and basically a user. As soon as I realized what she really was, I was done. I just stopped calling her, and answering her calls and texts. She got the picture when she ran into the woman I spoke of above and I out and about together. Karma's a b*tch, right?

Meh, I have no respect for people who don't respect the fact that some people want to better themselves. Fine, if that's not her bag, but why poo-poo it for you? Not cool.

I figured out how to have the nachos and still be "good"! It involves making my own chips from LC tortillas, but that's a small price to pay in order to have nachos! Hey, I have LC margaritas on occasion - I just mix some Crystal Light (love the lime and the raspberry lemonade ones) with some tequila, and instant LC margarita! The individual packets come in really handy if we're out at a bar and I want a LC drink (I don't care for soda at all).

Jam the first number is the sets and the second is the reps.

This is not circuit training but it is a full body workout. A good one

laura we are neighbors!

Im actually in forsyth county.. just over the fulton county line (off Ga 400/Windward pkwy)

i ocassionally use the LC tortillas I end up gaining from the large amt of fiber (makes me hold water) so i mostly use the baked chips since im usually doing it on a refeed..

Pretty close! We have friends that live in Forsyth, off of exit 13 on 400. We pass by you on our way up to Helen.

I know that I should probably wait, but I really want these nachos now!

Well, I was talking about this in our men's Boot Camp Charlie thread, but I decided to jump on board with the Stronglifts 5 x 5 program.

I did my "A" workout today. Squat, bench, inverted rows, pushups, reverse crunches.

I'm hoping to get my squat and deadlift increased through this program. Right now, I can bench much more than I can do the other two, which is kinda ridiculous.

Oh, I knew that! I think it sounds good too! Although, I am torn between the Craig Ballentyne circuits too. I'm trying to figure out what a better change up would be.

So cool that you and Laura are practically neighbors! No fair. I want a LCF neighbor! LOL Not a lot of Missourians around here..

Matt, where did you find the program? I have issues increasing my dumbbell weights. Anything over 50lb and my hands are screaming! I need to get those Verse gripps that Ileen was talking about.. I did by hook straps, but they are too big, now DH is enjoying them. LOL

the circuits from lbf?

those (metobolic) cirucits are used more for cardio instead of intervals or the tready, At least that is how we are using them.

Wow - it is so hard to keep up but I am learning alot.

I ate yesterday:
b- half a brkst sandwich (in a hurry and victim of road rage!!!!!!!!!!!)
l - small southwest chicken caesar salad
snack - almonds (one or two ounces)
d - meat sauce (ground beef/marinara) over shiritaki tofu noodles
Workout - legs and 45 minutes of cardio

Today -
B - homemade protein shake
L - small chicken oriental salad
Snack - oatmeal (if I need it)
Dinner - don't really know yet.

Workout - 45 minute walk with my coworkers (we have a walking club) and then to the gym for upper body workout.

Yes, the one from LBF.. I gottcha! So, I could use those circuits in place of my HIITs, and then use the new lifting workout? Or, would that conflict with consecutive day exercises for the same body part?

Matt,

To give you an idea of what the proportion should be between the Big 3 powerlifts, a respectably strong Bench is considered 1.5xBW, a respectably strong Squat is considered 2xBW, and a respectably strong Deadlift is considered 2.5xBW. This is without the use of support gear like bench shirts and squat suits, which skews the proportion between those lifts and the Deadlift.

Ileen,

It depends how much of a purist you ask, but the general consensus is that wraps and a belt do not count as "support gear" for this formula.

thanks

Wasnt sure..... im not a purist.. and dont power lift.. but love lifting heavy.

our coach encourages wraps if its going to impede our pull(s) but our goals are different.

I never wear a belt unless Im lifting at or close to max or going for a 1max rep.. (not very often)

Absolutely. Like many guys who entered the iron game in the 90's, I started out wearing a belt all the time, but was fortunate to be taught by some very strong old-school guys how much it impedes development of true core strength (and actually encourages injuries) and should only be used for 1-3 rep maxes, and an occassional 5RM. My entire midsection became so much stronger when I ditched the belt except for max efforts.

Jami,
If you Google Stronglifts 5 x 5, it will show you the program. There is a free e-book that you can download too.

The program gets knocked quite a bit on some hardcore bodybuilding forums, but I think most of the criticism comes from the fact that the program is so similar to some other 5 x 5 programs that were published previously. I don't see anything inherently wrong with it myself, except it will definitely be a challenge to squat every workout.

I'm starting the squat program with just the bar (45 lbs), and I'm supposed to add 5 lbs every workout. Supposedly ones legs will adapt to adding 5 lbs every workout and still doing 5 x 5. We'll see. I'm willing to try it.

The fact that you can handle 50 lb dumbbells says a lot. I don't use gloves or anything, so I have a nice set of calluses. I'm sure you're not looking for the callused look though, so I hope you find a solution to your hands hurting. They aren't hurting in the wrists or anything, are they?

Thanks for all of your help, Stack. Looks like I've met the 1.5 X BW for the bench. A LONG way to go on the other two.

I don't plan on using any bench shirts or squat suits. I don't use a belt either - I'm glad that was discussed above. It reaffirms that with good technique that I can have a stronger core without it.

Went for my consultation to day to schedule my breast augmentation. MD requested I stop weights that work on the muscles of my chest. Seems to me, the shoulder ones do, as well as back. Should I just concentrate on my legs and arms the next few weeks?

Thanks Jami.

Have you researched different grips for lifting? Sometimes the bar needs to be more in the palm, sometimes higher up... I'm wondering if the mechanics of the grip can be causing problems. I guess some pain is going to be in the equation, but I never have joint pain.

Sometimes gloves can cause problems. I think it has something to do with making the grip overall more wide. Plus, bad gloves can bunch up and make the grip awkward.

Hopefully whatever pain you are feeling isn't anything too abnormal.

Jami, I'm interested to see what solution you find for this. I use gloves too (need new ones but can't afford them atm). The problem I have is when using dumbbells for LB exercises I need to up the weights but I'm not strong enough in the upper body to hold onto the heavier dumbbells. Not really much I can do about that in the short term I guess.

I have a barbell now and can do some of my LB exercises using the barbel instead of dumbbells which is better. The only trouble I have with this is generally lifting the barbell off at the end of each circuit, again because I'm not strong enough to push the heavier weight with my arms.

Keep your cardio/lower body of course and abs. I would still do arms. That should be okay.
