That's great! Congrats!

I did Burn Intervals today even though I was tired and sore and didn't feel like working out. I don't think I gave it my all, but I'm glad I did it. This is the year that I commit to exercising six days a week for the rest of my life unless I am in the hospital or dead or something.

Finished week 1, because of you!

I was lifting weights in the cellar. I listed ten body parts and for each body part, I had three exercises to choose from. I did three sets of 12 for each one. I was teaching myself because there is not a gym around here and, god love him, the hubby really isn't a bodybuilder. So I googled every exercise to get the form, but I wasn't getting the results I wanted.

I started to look for a weight lifting program for women and came across ChaLean X. I do not have TV so I never seen the infomercial. When I googled the videos I came to this site. I learned so much. I got the videos.I completed Burn 3 yesterday.

I am still just getting used to the weight I can hold. Burn 1 was kind of easy because I chronically went too light. Burn 2 was a mixture of just right, too light, and too heavy. Burn 3 I had the same mixture but more was too heavy. I really don't like the cardio videos. I really don't like any cardio videos. I hate bouncy skinny chicks telling me I am doing so great, or that they are proud of me. Instead, I am doing Dance, Dance Revoultion on the kids playstation, until the snow all melts away and I can do HIIT (w/sprints or a bike).

I do have a tip. I have a full length mirror in the room, so I can check for proper form.

I have a question. I also, like many of you, can use more weight for lower body exercises than my hands can hold. I kinda went way over budget with the videos, so I cannot get a weighted vest right now. What else could I use or do that will not tax my hands so much.

Thanks
Patty

Patty,
I find when I rest the heavy weights on my shoulders, I can squat with them. If I were to hold them like Chalean does, I fail too early.

I did Burn 3 last night and it went by really fast, I loved it and I am only the tiniest bit of sore today. I am totally spent when I am done but not the next day. I kind of like being able to get out my chair without struggling I took my rest day today instead of doing the next scheduled work out. I am almost through with my first week, I am so excited, it has gone by so quickly.

The only thing that really bugs me is that my appetite has gone through the roof and I can't stop wanting to eat, which really is irritating because I feel like all the progress I am making with exercising will go down the drain because I CAN'T STOP EATING How do you deal with the extra hunger?

You need to eat every 2-3 hours. String cheese, almonds, celery stuffed with laughing cow cheese. I too am always hungry!!! The more you stay on top of the hunger, the less you will be inclined to binge. Also, on the days I lift, I drink a protein shake after.

Do you have ankle weights? If you do, you can loop them around a belt and wrap it around your waist.

That is a great idea atcgirl, and so is holding the weights at my shoulders, thanks 3tikes. I don't have any ankle weights, so I'll try holding weights differently.

Cat I get hungrier too on weight training days, I eat. I keep track of carbs so I eat until I am satisfied. Sometimes I really want something sweet, a red bell pepper always makes me satisfied. One thing I do whenever I weight train, is I make that shake Charlene makes on her video. 1 scoop of 100% Whey (chocolate GNC), 1/2 cup water, some ice and half a banana, all wissed up in the blender. The sugar from the banana actually helps the protein go to where it needs to go.

It's not that I don't want to eat, I just find that I am always reaching for crap. I think I just needed to say that I have a problem and then maybe I can begin to fix it. Nothing like getting it out there for everyone to read!

Starting today I am eating every 2-3 hours and am picking up a Magic Bullet to help me make those quick protein shakes. I am not hungry right after I lift but the next day, look out... I need a lock and chains on the fridge. I think it just comes down to planning.

Thanks for all the advise. You guys rock!

I got my DVD set!!!!

I am so excited I got my set and I plan on starting this program on April 1...but I find myself kinda sad...leaving my kathy smith routine. But I need a change I have been doing her stuff for almost 2 months so I thing a change will get my body really going!! also reading the schedule that chalean has laid out for you, I only see one day of abs??????? I am used to doing them everyday. does anyone else do more abs than she suggest?

also those of you that have been doing her stuff for awhile have you really seen the results??? just watching the basic dvd, I think she makes alot of sense.

anyway, I am very excited to get going!!!

This is a great point -- in fact, many weight belts are meant to be used either as a set of ankle weights, or attached together as a weight belt. I totally understand not wanting to invest more -- but you could keep your eyes open for some inexpensive ankle weights (Target or Walmart, say) and grab those at some point.

Until then, weights on your shoulders helps. The other part is the isometric piece -- when Chalene says, "Imagine that your weights are 50 pounds heavier than they really are!!!!!!" it's about clenching the muscle as tightly as you can as an isometric exercise.

The other thing people do (not that you want to do this now, but just saying . . .) is get lifting hooks -- doohickeys that wrap around your wrist and let you hold heavier weights than your grip would normally let you.

And, last but not least, some people are using barbells, which for some can allow them to lift heavier than they could have with just dumbbells. So, if you have those around, think about that.

Cat, for me it's eating really good, higher-fat LC foods with a good amount of protein. If I've eaten slices of pre-grilled ribeye steak, or a salad with blue cheese dressing and chopped grilled chicken, then I'm not going to go ransacking the pantry for some junk. I am definitely hungrier, but this keeps the ravenous monster at bay, for me!

Porkfat - what do you think so far of the lean phase?
3Tikes -- I'm just starting week 2 today, did Lean 3. I love/hate it -- having a breakdown set on every exercise definitely increases the pain and suffering factor! I like the way each Lean session is more targeted -- although by the end I'm DYING because we've done one too many shoulder exercises, I suspect it's going to be really effective. I like the built-in core work.

More random musings: It would be lovely to have a professional hairdresser do my hair PERFECTLY like Julie before each workout. I loved Poopiedo's comment about the Wonder Woman bracelet -- the one Chalene wears on Lean 3 is more of an S&M/biker chick look -- still not what I would have thought, "I'm going to work out, oh, I need to put this on!"

And, most important -- those ridiculous cooldowns! Especially on Lean 3 -- where we just did shoulder exercise after shoulder exercise, and she does her usual cooldown that just stretches your legs. I'm going, "My shoulders and chest are killing me, and you're going to do NO FRICKIN' SHOULDER STRETCHES? Are you NUTS?" Yes, I do yell at the TV set. I admit it.

Burn 3, done. I'm looking forward to being able to do most/all of the reps on all of the exercises. There are some that I just cannot complete!

Completed Burn it off and Recharge tonight, can't decide if I love the recharge yet. I did however like Burn it Off, I really broke out in a sweat! Even with recharge I felt like I was just dripping. I think tomorrow I do Burn 1 again! I am really looking forward to it.

Have a great night!

I wasn't sure if I liked the recharge either so I haven't been doing it, I usually do the burn intervals and burn it off twice a week.

Are you starting your burn circuit again from week one?

Did Fat Burn Challenge this morning -- if you've read this whole thread, you'll see that I hate, hate, hate burpees! Have I mentioned that I hate burpees? Well, let me tell you, I hate burpees. Anyway, I've gotta say that today's 16 burpees were SO much easier than in week 1! Really says that we're getting more fit.

I hear you I am not a fan of burpees so I have been doing the modified version that Layley does. Good for you that you can do 16. What circuit are you on?

jabbok: I guess I thought it just repeated? I will just go with whatever is in the book. I am not sure if I will do recharge again or not, I know I should but it seems like a waste of time I would really prefer to come up with my own stretching routine. Do you do either burn it off or burn intervals on the rest days?

porkfat: Congrats on the 16 burpees You are getting more fit, sweet!
I am upping my fat intake, which is usually pretty low but I need to staying power of it. Plus I did find a quick shake maker to make protein shakes.

Sorry I am confused you do repeat the circuits for 4 weeks I am not sure what I was thinking. Yes I do either the burn it off or the burn intervals on the 6th day, I do take at least one day off.

WORD!!!!!! They were a lot easier last weekend than any other time so far. I don't dread them anymore. I don't love them, but I don't get that urge to curl into a ball and weep now.

Just completed Burn 1, can't believe how fast the first week flew by. I will only be taking one day off a week, I think I will just take Sunday's off and do some sort of workout on the other rest day. Maybe Turbo Jam 'cause I miss it so much! It is like comfort food

I don't hate the burpees yet, but I think I have only done them once or twice, so I am sure I will be cussin' her out very soon! When I grew up it, they were called squat thrusts. I actually held the record in 8th grade for the most in two minutes. Earlier this week I just wanted to lay down and cry

Hello CLXers

Today I completed Get Lean Intervals and I've Got Abs. Time flies so quickly. I am in the third week of lean already. One more week and my first round will be complete. I plan to do two rounds of p90x and then come back to CLX. So far with this program, I've lost 12 lbs. According to my scale I've lost around 11% body fat. Just think what I would have accomplished if my eating was totally clean.

I hated burpees at first but now I can do them all. I no longer stare at the tv in disgust wondering how a person can drop to the floor and back up so quickly all while wearing a smile. I never thought I would live through all the burpees without passing out. Look at me now.

I don't like recharge but I try to do it every so often because I know I should. All the while I'm doing the recharge I keep thinking to myself it's not that bad, but it is because it bores me.

I.just.don't.like.recharge.that.is.all.

Here is some chat session info I received on another site about the new Chalean workouts. Excuse the caps, Chalean is yelling from excitement.

LOWER BODY EXTREME IS A LOWER BODY CIRCUIT, 30 MINUTES OF LUNGES, SCREAMERS, BLASTERS, SQUATS, TRAVELING LUNGES, DOUBLE DIPS, PLYO METRICS, UNTIL YOUR LEGS ARE BEYOND SHAKING!

THERE ARE 4 NEW WORKOUTS. THE NEXT WORKOUT WAS THE DYNAMIC YOGA FLOW VIDEO WHICH IS THE BEST COMBINATION OF YOGA, SPORTS STRETCH, PILATES, MARTIAL ARTS AND MOVEMENT. WE COMBINE FLOW YOGA W/ THESE THINGS AND THE WEIGHTED GLOVES. IT'S AN INCREDIBLE WORKOUT THAT YOU ACTUALLY SWEAT AND BURN CALS IN A STRETCH VIDEO!

THIRD VIDEO IS THE INTERVAL WORKOUT THAT I DID WITH THE BALL. I COMBINE THE DRILLS SEEN IN SOME OF THE CLX VIDEOS AND ADD WEIGHT TRAINING ON THE BALL! SOOOO KILLA! YOU WONT BELIEVE HOW COOL THESE WORKOUTS ARE WHEN YOU ADD A RESIST A BALL.

LAST WORKOUT IS THE BALL CORE WORKOUT. 15 MINUTES OF KILLER AB WORK ON THE BALL WITH WEIGHT GLOVES AS EXTRA RESISTENCE. NOT FOR NEWBIES!

Thank you Poopiedo for the update...I'm so excited to get them, did they say when? I also do the recharge - I think it's good for ya, or else she wouldn't have put it in there! I am doing a rest week (light cardio) so I was using On Demand Exercise TV and did a yoga - a lot of the moves were just like recharge - that Chalean knows her stuff! I also think I might have strep throat so I have to look into that today - no workout probably, maybe abs later. I have a job interview tomorrow and I want to feel better.

I also think I might have strep throat so I have to look into that today - no workout probably, maybe abs later. I have a job interview tomorrow and I want to feel better.
Strep throat is no joke, feel better. Good luck on the job interview. In these days and times, job interviews are hard to come by.

I will look to get the all extra workouts when I am closer to finishing. Time really does fly...I can't believe it. I will be ordering them sooner than later.

I am a little sore this morning, right around my hip joints. I really was squatting low during Burn 1, which is probably why. LOVED IT ANYWAY!

Poopiedo ~ Congrats on the weight loss, I bet your body has changed more than the scale will ever show and that is what we want right, lean but tough Are the new videos called Lower Body Extreme???

3Tikes ~ Good luck on the job interview, hope you don't have strep, I really hate that illness.
