Starting P90X on Monday...anyone else?

Hi all,

I am going to start P90X on Monday. I was wondering if there were others who have done this, are doing it or plan to start it soon. I wasn't going to follow the eating plan and just stick with a LC plan. But, I'm thinking I might go ahead and give it all I've got and really follow the plan exactly. I'm still thinking/reading about it, though. I'd love to hear opinions on it.

This program is right up my alley. I already have a lot of muscle and am pretty dense making my weight at 5'5" higher than I look. At 150 lbs I was a comfy size 4 in jeans. I'd like to lose fat to get down to my muscle again but don't want to get too bulky which I tend to do quite easily.

If anyone is doing this or would like to start soon, let's do it together. And, don't forget to take before pictures and measurements!!!

Where do you get the workouts from? Are you doing them at home or at a gym? What do they consist of? I've heard a little about this but don't know enough about it....any info would be greatly appreciated.

You have to order the program. There are a bunch of workouts that are supposed to work together to create a full body fitness program that works so well because it confuses the muscles and your body doesn't get used to any one thing. I know of some people who did it and said they got phenomenal results. Many of the workouts are pretty intense, from what I understand. It's a commitment of an hour a day, I think every day. I haven't gotten mine, yet. Hopefully it will come today or tomorrow. It has a schedule to tell you which workouts to do on which days. There is an eating plan, too. I haven't seen it yet, so I haven't decided what to do with that part of it.

Here's the link. It's kind of pricey, so be aware.

Thanks for the info....I have a friend who ordered it but never used it. I am going to see if I can borrow it from him. Do you know if I will need any equipment other than dumbbells to do this in my apt?

The only other thing it says you need is a chin-up bar. I don't have one, yet, either. I'm going to see if I really need one. I used to be able to do them, so I'm hoping to be able to again when this 90 days is over.

I can't wait to get started. I'm going to spend the weekend planning out my food, making sure I have everything in the house and easy to prepare. I want to do this right. I'm going ot take lots of before pictures, too.

This is soooo my kind of thing. I'm so glad you're going ot try to join me. I hope you can borrow those DVD's. WHooooo hoooo!

my dad has this system. I did it for a few weeks after I had my baby in Jan. It is a good workout and really does work you hard! I think the muscle confusion is key! Be ready to sweat!!

It is absolutely awesome! good luck, you should be already alittle in shape to really get through it, I was kind of in shape from slim n 6, I just went for it. It did amazing changes to my body but your weight will stall but the inches and shape of your body will change. I had never done so many push ups in my life and even if you cant do them you will gain strenght so fast. I unfortunately didnt get to finish my 90days I had like 2 weeks left when I got hurt and couldnt continue. I recently got the 10 minute trainer and I may use that to ease back into p90x. GOOD LUCK! take your before and after pictures.

I have Power90 and have only done it twice in about four years. I liked it but I don't know why I never continued on. I have thought about trying it again now that the weather is too icky to go outside.

I clicked on your picture link.....you have beautiful babies. The pictures in the pea pods was really neat. I can't imagine how much work three babies must be. I would think just taking care of them would be a workout in itself.

I'm definitely not in shape, but the first day I went back to working out after my 4 months of bedrest, I ran a 5k on the treadmill. I'm also back to doing 4 sets of 15 push ups pretty much in a row. So, I'm getting there--it's going to be a long road, though. I hope this is the key for me. I go to the gym, but I really prefer more structure and my gym is small; there are no classes or trainers.

I had to wait a bit because my MIL had a stroke and DH is gone alot right now. So, I took this week to sort of ease in and try some of the workouts without calling it week one. Monday for sure!!!

I hope there will be a few of us to go at it together!

Nicolope,

Your babys are so adorable your whole family is very beautiful, Im sure you feel really lucky. I hope everything turns out okay with your MIL. I cant wait to see your results with p90x, You have have already come a long way. What do you think keeps you motivated? as for me I think of how I felt: lazy sick, sleepy, depressed and when I see other people like that I just think I dont want to be like that I want to be still going strong for as long as I can. Im still young and I still should be feeling good I think if I keep feeling like crap like I was whats it gonna be like when Im 50.

What keeps me motivated? Oh, it sounds so vain to say it. But I will, LOL!

When I lost my weight, I went from 294 to the 150's. At 150, I was a size 4! I was a single, stay-at-home mom at the time and got a part time job at a gym so I could have a free membership. I wound up making some friends and joining their workout group. They were actually professional bodybuilders. I took to it so fast it was scary. I naturally build muscle like crazy and I soooo enjoyed the boot camp workouts and the hard core stuff like chin ups. I ALMOST trained for a fitness competition when I decided to get pregnant and the rest is history. But, I feel like I have one more shot at that type of elite fitness and I intend to have it.

Thanks so much for your sweet comments about my family. Yes, I do feel very, very lucky--blessed actually.

My MIL improved a bit but seems to have plateaued in a not so great place. We're all waiting and praying about what to do for her. Thanks for your concern.

Back to p90X..,. Why don't you do what I'm doing? Take a week or two to slowly work out the workouts. (haha) Rather than waiting until you're ready to jump in and kill yourself with the learning curve and major soreness, just do it moderately for a bit. Don't count those initial weeks as part of the 90 days, though. Then, when you're ready, you'd be off to a better start.

My plan is to start on Monday and do the 90 days, take time off of the program until after my mini-tri which is in april. Then I want to do it again. So, we can keep this thread as an ongoing thing.

Oh, BTW...in this opening week of mine, I tried to follow the nutrition plan that goes with the p90x. I HATED it. I can't eat like that. If I could, I would never have gotten to 294. What rescued me from 294? Atkins. I need to stick with that even on this program or it will be way too hard--much harder than it needs to be.

Come on now...any lurkers looking to jump in and join us???

Nicolope,
I just got the callanetics workouts because I thought they would help me ease back in since they are for backpain and stuff, but it seems it may not have much upper body. I was thinking of doing the p90x arms on certain days and the Kenpo or Plyo as part of my Cardio, so I think your right jumping right into may be bad. I need to think of a schedule this weekend and get some new workout bands, I have some weights but Im not sure if I can use them yet. I cant imagine when you have time to workout with all those cute baby's, I only have one in Kindergarten but I have to put alot of attention to him when I have him because I have joint custody with his dad, so I will definately be working out in the morning. Im going to do callanetics tonight but I may start an actual schedule with the p90x on Monday as soon as I figure out a schedule that sounds right....I have no idea yet!

Sounds great Wendy!

Maybe if we all just post what our adapted plan is so we can support each other in whatever plan we come up with, that would help.

I am starting tomorrow. I'm not doing the nutrition plan; I'm sticking with atkins. But, I'm starting the 90 days of workouts.

Heeeeerrrrrreeeeee Wweeeeeeee gooooooooO!

Nicolope,

I ran across this thread when doing a p90x search. So I read your post and decided to join today because I just started p90x today myself. I got the program a few weeks ago and "fooled around" with it (as you suggested another poster to do) and decided that Monday would officially mark the start of my "classic" program.

I did the Chest & Back, immediately followed by AbRipper X, then made a protein shake for recovery when I found your thread. So, I am here ("officially"--lol!) I would enjoy having the encouragement and support from someone else who is actually doing the program, too.

I wanted to say that I decided about 3 weeks ago to do Adkins, and when I got the meal plan from p90x, I have struggled with the idea of not having enough carbs to get through these workouts. I just finished a 2-week induction, and I was trying to decide if I wanted to follow p90x nutrition or just stay on Adkins. This is my 2nd time on Adkins; the first time was in 2001-2001 when I lost about 15-18 pounds, which was all I wanted to lose back then. Since then, I let myslef go pretty much and was 180 before induction and now I'm 174 at this writing.

Have you done your workout today yet? I got my pullup bar and bands 2 weeks ago, and now they are being put to use. Let's do this!

Welcome pachita!

I'm so glad you decided to join us. I'm going to be more active on this thread each day--it's just been a little crazy in my household because of my MIL being so ill. I was at the hospital a lot yesterday and my hubby is gone most of the time right now.

Anyway...I did do my workout yesterday and I'm getting ready to do CardioX today. I'm doing the Lean version of the workout. I need to get my pull up bar still, though. Hopefully this week. Until I get it, I'm going to substitute another exercise when needed.

I am sticking with Atkins--it's definitely better for me.

Have you done your workout today?

I've made two decisions...

First of all, my MIL died last night. Needless to say, this is going to be a very trying week for my family. Because of that, I'm not going to count this as week one. I can't be sure that I can give it the 100% effort that I want to.

Secondly, I'm going to do the Classic version rather than the Lean version since I found the CardioX to be easier than I expected. I want this to kick my butt! lol

So, Wendy and anyone else, I'm with ya on starting on Monday. It will be great to have a partner or partners.

So sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

The classic is good, I did the classic and I loved it. It looks like I will only be doing the cardio part of the p90x along with callanetics, the doctor would like for me not to strain to much, I did tell her I would try some form of working out and she said to go ahead, but I have to go back in a couple of weeks. I think I will try the kenpo, plyo and Cardio X on cardio days.

See ya on Monday!

Yay! Sounds like a plan!

Hey, I wonder what my doctor would say since I just had a c-section 13 weeks ago. I think the ab ripper might be a bit much for me but I haven't tried it yet. I plan to listen to my body though. I don't want any setbacks.

Can't wait to really start this thing!

Nicolope,

Sorry to hear about your family's loss. I know firsthand what that is like, having already lost both of my parents in 1993 and 1994 as well as a 21-year old stepdaughter in 2007. My regards to you and your family.

I want to tell you that I was on schedule for my workouts until I did Plyo. It was, to say the least--BRUTAL! But like you, I did find cardioX not as difficult as I'd thought, and since I am also looking for something so tough and raw, I decided to do the Classic version as well.

MOREOVER, Thanksgiving intervened and my weakness for sugar and processed carbs (read: pumpkin pie, not the low carb version) derailed me momentarily. (Shaking my head.) I am still struggling the after effects today. Yesterday I had a massive headache and this morning I fell weak for a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios. (Sigh!) So I am going to restart induction, again, on my very next meal, and vow not to buckle again for Christmas! I realize it will take about 4 days to get all the sugar out of my system again.

So today I have started over (again!) with chest & back. I haven't done my workout yet, but I will do it at about 3pm, since my 12 year old daughter gets in at 4. It's a good workout, and I really do enjoy the challenge of the pushups and pullups, and I do believe that I am gaining strength in that area already. Just got to keep my WOE in line....that's where I am weak and get derailed, falling into the abyss and spiraling downward from there. Can any of you relate??

Hope to hear from you all on this thread.

Your family is in my prayers, Nicolope.

Thanks so much for the prayers and condolences. The week/weekend was long and somber, but it's behind us now.

I, too, fell victim of the comfort of carbs. I'm reinducting this morning and also jumping into the Classic version with today being day 1 of my 90. YAY! I'm waiting for my houseguest to find something to do so i can do chest, back and ab ripper.

Now I'm looking forward to Plyo!

Let me know how the day goes for you with induction and exercise. I think it's great your jumping back in with your very next meal and not waiting another day. You go girl!!!

I made it through the chest/back/ab workout, barely. lol There are those pull-ups I've been waiting for. It was a good workout and I imagine I'll be quite sore tomorrow. I'm trying to take it easy on the ab stuff because of only being 3 months past my surgery. The ab section was really good, though.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow...I think it's yoga.

Hope your Callanetics was good, Wendy!

I've been debating about getting this program. My friend said he had it and it worked great but you have to stick with the program and be prepared to workout hard! I keep seeing it on television and after reading the responses here I'm more inspired to buy it. I just need to increase my workout now so when I receive it, I'll be better prepared!
