I can't believe it but I'm sick--sick as a dog! I'm hoping to only miss one workout...sigh.

I'll check back in with you guys later today.

Recovery Drink for P90X

I did not purchase the P90X recovery formula, but I can tell you that if you don't do SOMETHING after your workouts and/or drink enough water, YOU WILL BE at least 50% MORE sore than usual. This program is about serious muscle building, so there is a significant amount of muscle tearing and lactic acid buildup occuring during these workouts. The plyo nearly did me in.

Having said all of that, I do recommend some type of recovery formula. Personally, I went the cheaper route and bought a recovery formula at Wal-Mart (I know that Endurox from GNC would have been better). I can tell that when I forget to take it after a workout, I am literally hammered, and this will impede your desire to work out, since too much soreness for me is counterproductive. If you don't want to drink a recovery drink, I have found in the past that taking a double dose of vitamin E does wonders for the soreness that comes with a tough workout. You have to take it before your workout for it to work against lactic acid buildup and soreness. I like to think of it (though this isn't the scientific reason, lol!) as the vitamin E acting as a lubricant for my muscles. I'm not exactly sure how, but it works wonders for the residual soreness. Probably its a good idea to take it, anyway. I also take fish oil supplements as well.

These are just suggestions that have worked for me.

Nicolope, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Likely it's the stress of what you have recently suffered that has done a number on your immune system. Hope you feel better very soon. Let's keep this thread active, and keep moving toward completing p90X successfully. We have nothing to lose (except weight) and everything to gain from doing so!

Hey the L-Glutamine got rid of the soreness really quick. Sorry to hear you are sick, I had a bad sore throat on Monday and felt like I was going to be sick on tuesday then it just went away. Lets see how it goes today.

Pachita, thanks for the advice and tips abotu recovery drinks. I agree that vitamin E can really help with muscle soreness. I'm really glad to hear that these workouts require the same types of considerations as serious gym/weight-training workouts.

I'm feeling better today but took another day off of working out. I don't need to send myself backward any more than necessary. I think this will wind up being another ramp-up week and i'll give it a go for Monday.

Hopefully I'll actually be able to really start the 90 days soon. I did take my pre-p90x bikini pictures and...WOW...thank God I have a plan, that's all I can say.

Wendy,

I woke up with a sore throat today and decided to go back to sleep for a few more hours, (I work from home so I have that liberty), and when I woke up around noon, I felt much better. Tonight it's still a little scratchy, but not too much so. I don't like taking meds, so I hope it will just fade like yours did.

I JUST got finished with Shoulders and Arms, and before I went to make a protein shake, I decided to log in to record my workout in hopes I might be able to help someone's motivation.

L-glutamine is what's in my recovery powder. I just mix myself a protein shake with ice and half and half and add a scoop to it and can't tell it's in there.

Nicolope, I hope you can join us soon. I too took my before photos a few weeks ago (even though I just officially started), although i have lost some inches already by inducing. I don't look much slimmer, but I "feel" it, if that makes sense to any of you.

A friend who hadn't seen me in several weeks commented that I looked less tired and run down than I had previously, so I know something is working. Hey! I'll take encouragement wherever I can get it, right? I think my face is less dough-y.

I have to go mix my shake....my arms are starting to tremble! lol Yes ma'am, if you are looking for the real deal, you won't be disappointed with P90X.

Did you start on Monday?

I did, I just switched out the chest/ab workout for the chest/shoulder workout that isn't really a part of these first few weeks. I figured it was better than doing the same thing again since I keep restarting. So, I've been on track for three days. I feel great! I think the workouts are good, some innovative parts, and I love the timer at the bottom that tells you how long you have until the next exercise.

what are your thoughts?

Hi,
That sounds good. I decided last night to do the super callanetics since I had more time and oh my god! it was hard, but It felt great. Im pretty sore today but good. I havent started the p90x part because I dont feel I can do it yet, my chest still gets aggrevated easily I noticed.

And yes the timer is a great idea and I like how you can go at your pace and weight resistance in the amount of time they give you. He is totally awesome, have you signed up in their message boards? I have pictures up somewhere in their gallery I think its only up to the 60 day pictures because after that I couldnt workout anymore.

Good for you! How's it going?

It's obviously not going very well for me. Things just aren't normal enough around here to schedule a shower let alone an hour for a workout everyday. And, when I miss a day, I feel so frustrated...

Then, (sorry if this is gross) but I had a horrible ingrown toenail that got infected and I could NOT put on my shoes. I finally got in to the doctor today and he had to cut off a little part of my toenail and other gross stuff. So, that is throbbing like you know what!

IDK, I really, really want to do this. I want to do more actually. But, this is a great compromise and it seems pathetic that I can't get it to work. I guess what I could do is when the babies get up for their 5am feeding, I could just stay up and workout then rather than going back to sleep until 7.

Hmmm...maybe I shoudl try that. Then there would be no day that I couldn't work it in. Everyone is telling me that having infant triplets is not the time to try to implement a workout routine, but I KNOW I would feel stronger and have more engery if I was getting regular exercise.

I hope you keep posting to this thread. I need the accountability.

Tell me what you think of your workouts so far if you don't mind.

Hey sorry to hear about everything thats going on, trust me I know what you mean with my sons homework, dinner, bf, sons bath, quality time...ahhh its crazy, and it seems so hard to do it in the morning, Im totally not a morning person and I have to get up earlier lately because we only have one car at the moment. To tell you the truth the workouts are boring and slow but they feel like they work not the same as p90x but, its just different, like I feel tighter already. Oh, for the message boards go to beachbody.com and on the right of the screen it should have the community message boards, their you can find before and after pictures, people are really helpful and they have other things you can sign up for to win prizes and stuff. Well I hope everything works out for you, dont worry so much things will fall into place, trust me you have 3 excuses that need alot of attention. Something is better then nothing.

Just finished my first round, getting ready to start another Jan 1st

Wow what next is going to happen to the two of you....knock on wood. Maybe it's not meant to be for this moment. Maybe set the New Year date like me to give yourself not only the time to get used to the workouts but to get everything else in order. When I was starting my first round Sept 1st, Hurricane Gustav hit and we were without power for 2 weeks.....do you think there is some force working against us X'ers or what?

What will you all be drinking after the workouts. I have the recovery drink from Beachbody but I'm not sure of how it would affect cravings later as I wasn't doing Atkins while on P90x. I was doing their plan which is probably more southbeach"ish"....however I hate not eating fat. I love mayonaise and salad dressing and life without those is really hard. After the first 2 weeks the sugar part is easier...but easy...just easier..it's more of an emotional thing for me.

BTW regarding the c-section 13 weeks ago, I've had 3 c-sections and I always started ab exercises the second they felt comfortable, I'd try the exericse and see if it felt free from any type of discomfort whatsoever and went with it and that is pretty much what my doctor said too. "Listen to your body" but other than that she always gave me a free pass at week 8 post partum. If I were you I'd do whatever in the Ab Ripper that doesn't hurt. Also I actually like the Ab Ripper X + of P90X plus a lot better, you may want to get that, as you get really sick of doing the same ab workout 3 days a week for 90 days minus recovery weeks.

This is perfect. I just finished my first round of 90 days. My strength gains are amazing. BUT I only followed the eating plan for the first 6 weeks, I was looking great up til that set back, but I continued the workout plan (classic, with doubles 2 times a week) the rest of the time.

I want to do Atkins again, which I haven't truly done since 2003 but I was wondering how working out with P90X would be with Atkins. I mean they put so much emphasis on the perfect balance between carbs/protein/fat, however, as we all know when doing low carb that doesn't actually fit.

Anyway I need to lose 20 pounds. And I'm so sugar addicted it's not even funny. I'm what I suppose a heroin addict is like, I take one bite and I'm back to my old habits (eating too much and always wanting more). I hate being on low carb for one reason, so many of my memories as a kid (the good times anyway) are tied up in baking and eating sweets with my mom and family. When i'm on low carb I don't even like to make my kids cupcakes on their birthday. I feel left out of normal life.

But on one hand I know from experience that it is what works best for me. So anyway I'm giving my body a bit of a break from the X for the rest of the December, I've been doing atkins the last few days, however, I'm going to enjoy Christmas Dinner and start everything altogether January 1st.

I'll be checkin' in on ya.

I think January is going to be perfect. Things will be settled down for all of us, hopefully.

I know what you mean about how they stress the perfect diet/balance. But, then doesn't so much of society think that there should be a "balance" look at the beloved food pyramid.

Personally, I think that we need to combine the wokouts with what we've already learned about food and do what works for us. If I eat carbs, I'll have to fight with cravings and lethargy and I don't want to deal with that at the same time as an intense workout plan.

Oh man I want my body back!

Oh man I want my body back!
started at (181 lbs) currently 145

When I first began to lose weight back in 1-08 I first started with weight watchers and the Slim in 6 plan from the same company as p90x, I was so dehydrated tired and I fought the whole way through to keep going, I had to workout 6 days a week for about an hour for 6 weeks and It was so hard because I had no energy, trust me I lost inches and weight but I felt horrible my last week I couldnt finish because my body was completely worn out. then I started the p90x but dropped the weight watchers, I just couldnt workout like that and eat so little, so I ate normal and worked out, I actually gained weight but not flabby weight so maybe muscle because I lost inches. But then I got hurt and couldnt workout and I just got alittle sad and ate and ate and gained back 10lbs so I had to find a way of eating that would satisfy me and I can enjoy, I cant imagine going back to a low calorie diet, feeling hungry all the time and tired and migraines and depression, heck no.

I havent worked out the past few days Im as sick as a dog, I have the worst head cold and with shopping cooking for potlucks, its crazy, I think January will be better...lol

Oh yeah I made shrimp I could eat for the potluck and a flan for everyone else, I didnt find it to hard to resist anything, Im happy!

P90X + 2009 = SOON!!

Seems like a good idea... If I can get my butt started after the year rolls. I think it would be a great idea.

I too, have the P90X system and have done the routines once before over a year ago and was able to lose a whoppin' 100 pounds. The only thing was I modified the workouts extremely to my liking and was still able to pull it off. I'm game to get on this tho, so count me in.

I began P90-X a week ago and am thoroughly enjoying the program. I needed something to do with bands while up here in Canada and the P90-X routines have been great. I'll use dumbbells mostly once I get back home but free weights are simply not available to me right now. I brought the bands myself.

I bought the DVD's off e-bay and don't have the books or nutrition info. I found the routine info for free on different websites. I'm not interested in the nutrition part but would like to get the manuals that come with the program. Been looking on e-bay for those. I found them right before leaving for Canada but did not order them as they would get to my place while I was gone. Of course, that auction has now ended and I cannot find them again.

Will keep looking though.

My wife and I did 2 rounds of P90X this year and got phenomenal results. To anyone starting the program.....stick with it EVERYDAY! Follow the diet plan also, it's every bit as important as the workouts. Love, love, love P90X. Decide-Commit-Succeed

Began week three today. Was the first time with chest and back that I had access to a pull-up bar. The past two weeks I wasin Canada and had to use bands. HUGE difference doing the actual pull-ups.

Been very faithful with it everyday and I can feel and see the changes. Amazing that with all the other routines I've done over the last 4 years what a difference P90-X has made in just 15 days.

Hey there! My hubby and I started LAST NIGHT for the first time, starting "classic" with the chest/back routine. We could not even attempt the ab routine. Like I said in another post, I'm not sure if it was a good idea to go from couch potato to vomit inducing in one day. Hubby felt better than I did afterwards, I'm sure that as I get moving and eating "right" I will not feel so awful. I will have to look into the recovery drinks though. I can't lift my arms over shoulder height. But, I am determined.

Hi all!

I'm so glad to see a few others joining us! Welcome to all of you! It's great that we're all in different places in the program, too.

I hope you all had a great holiday! Thanks for checking out my blog, Wendy! And, good for you for getting to wear some cute clothes!!!

I did day three today. So far, so good! I'm also adding in some extra cardio a few times a week. Tomorrow is Yoga day, though (90 mins?) so I won't be doing anything more.

I have really been enjoying the workouts. My LC eating plan has been right on target, too. so, I feel REALLY great!
