SQUATS!!!!
Okay, so I finally bit the bullet and started doing squats. I am a beginner with these, so I hold myself steady using the back rail of the leg press machine to balance myself. I cannot believe how sore my thighs are. I was walking down some steps earlier today, and Man!, my legs feel like cement!. When I was doing them, they actually felt great. I did two sets of 10-12 of them, full squat, hammies touching backs of calves. I know they are great for you, but boy oh boy do I feel the burn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But yeah, squats are excellent for shaping the thighs, and if you do the hack squat machine and leg press it really gives thighs a nice shape. Love the burn! |

Try to do ballerina squats! You'll have nice calves along with nice glutes, calves, and quads! Feel the burn! I use kettle bells when I do squats, too.

it's all about squats, deadlifts and benchpress!! I think everything else is secondary (depending on your personal goals of course)-
I've noticed that when I squat and deadlift my strength goes up, pretty much all around. I actually hate to benchpress but I know it's a great exercise. |

I was just reading your post about squats and thought about this video.
Found it when I was researching the Tabata method... http://www.youtube dot com/watch?v=eDh1Cspl0jI I so want to be able to do this someday! Last edited by skinhealth : 09-04-2008 at 10:25 PM. |

One of the other links off of that one shows proper form to practice first and shows different things that go wrong to pay attention too (curving back, rolling on balls of feet) -so that you Don't hurt yourself, etc. Plus great to learn proper form for when you start adding weights to the squat

Sooooooooo I do them. I'm still learning how to do the ATF ... but at least go to parallel for most... If you google Squats or go to youtube there are some great "how to" vids that show proper form and hints/tips to get the most out of the move. |

I looooooove squats. Used to hate 'em. Saw what they did for me ... now I love 'em! It's probably the most compound strength exercise you can get. If you do just one thing for your legs - let it be squats!

Hah, I made the mistake of doing 50 squats, 50 lunges, and 50 calf raises in my last LBWO. Omg, my legs are still MISERABLE. I learned a lesson!
next time, maybe I'll start with just 20 of each! |

I remember the first time I did squats. The next day, I thought all was well until I got in my van and tried to brake for a stop sign. I kid you not, it brought tears to my eyes - my butt was soooooo sore. I do squats alot now (very worth it!!) and I still sometimes get sore.

I agree! Squats, deadlifts, and the dreaded "walking lunge"! Being 52 and having certain hip issues, I do the dead lifts, static lunges...(staying in one place), and sumo squats and the 45 degree press machine. Another one that makes me want to "toss my cookies" is the quad machine.
Good luck to all...Weight lifting rocks! ![]() |
