How do you thin big arms?
I have a friend who is losing weight, but she thinks her arms are too fat and big. Her stomach is toned and so are her legs. How do you lose fat on the arms, gain muscle and tone the arms?

Hmm..So, she is at her perfect weight and her arms are still fat? I found as I lost weight, my arms shrank, too. You can tone with weights, but having the "fat" leave the building is the best way.

No such thing as TONING
I had this same exact question. The truth is, it can't be done. You can't spot train a certain spot of your body. All you can do is continue to lose weight and excerise and HOPE that your body decides to take weight away from that area. You can't turn fat into muscle or muscle into fat. There is no such thing as TONING. Muscles experience growth and become stronger or smaller and weaker.

I will tell you the one thing that worked for me... playing drums. I kid you not! I had, biceps, triceps-- the whole shebang. What one can do is get a drum pad and sticks, and whale away at them, if one is musically inclined. :-)

Check out the Callanetics before and after pics and other monthly thread in the Exercise Forum. Toning can happen.

you shrink the fat and grow the muscle. and toning does occur if you strength train and work your core.

Your friend sounds like me
One my problem areas is the back of my upper arms ... it is going to be one of the last places my "fat" leaves as it is one of the FIRST places to get it ... Your friend needs to keep plugging away, eat a healthy diet and exercise - Weights are great for building those strong muscles... I found that using a speed bag and doing tae bo punches seemingly help to firm up some of the excess flab also ... |

The fat has left the building for my arms...BUT the stretched skin remains. I don't think anything can be done for this bar plastic surgery, which I can't afford at this point in time.
Good question. |
