I finally hit size 14's!! I had a goal of wearing them in Vegas next month so I am 27 days early!

I haven't been this low in roughly 16 years I was 22/24 this summer.

New here

Hi everyone!

I am new to this thread, and starting up BFFM again. I bought the book in 2007, but never really stuck to the program. I am sorry to say I get overwhelmed easily, I think I think too much! So I am trying to get a basic beginner program started.

My question for you is what level of carbs did you all start out with? I know BFFM is highly individualized, but it seems some of his menu plans are heavy on the carbs and lower in fat. I have just started up low carb again and am having serious doubts about staying in ketosis. I feel mentally foggy and exhausted when I am in ketosis, so i am looking for a good carb level to start. I am thinking somewhere around 100g of carb a day. Do you stay in ketosis? What level of carbs do you eat?

My main focus food-wise is to eat natural foods, no frankenfoods. I generally eat eggs, meat, olive oil, butter and tons of veggies. I want to add in some fruit-berries mostly, to bring myself out of ketosis. I also have a love affair with steel cut oats, which I also want to add back in.

For exercise I have been using the treadmill to do walk/run 1/4 mi alternating. I have done this sporadically, and every time I stop, even for a week, it seems I have to start at the beginning agaiin. I also have turbojam, tae-bo and the very first The Firm series. I have a set of dumbbells 5.8.10,12,15 lbs

I really want to stick to this this time. I understand that it will take hard work and commitment, and there is no magic bullet. I want to take it slow at first so i don't overdo and quit.

Any advice for this newbie??

Ola! And Welcome to BFFM Land!

Take it one step at a time I came from doing mainly veggies/fruit, little meat so my veggie/fruit carbs were pretty high ... so a good place to start is like he says in the book might be P-40/C-30/F-30 and go from there... we're all individual so as you work your way thru this journey you may well end up somewhere totally different.

It's also a good idea to get at least 1g Protein per lb of LBM, and keep fats around .5g per lb... so I'm about 127# and my LBM is approx 105... I get 105g protein (or more) and 50-60g fat each day ...

I'd work on getting your diet in place, good foods and get going on the exercise. I LOVE the original FIRM tapes... it's a good start... There are a few other people that can give you more info on Exercises and here are a couple of links to peruse and check out (when you're ready )

Also really take the time to do the goal setting in Ch 1. then you won't have a reason not to stick to the plan as you will know WHY you want to achieve your goals.

Planning is key along with consistency.

DD ran her first marathon this evening at 6p.m. she ran 10K in 1hr 9 mins. It was a good fundraiser for our area hospitals they raised $64,000 plus. It was a lovely event to see so many running and crossing that finish line.

We took DGD to see her Mommy at the finish line.
