Anybody on here doing TNT Diet/Training?

Are there any low-carbers on this forum that are currently doing the TNT Diet & Training?

The TNT Diet - Men's Health

If so, it would be great to just compare notes & that sort of thing. And if not, I highly encourage people to take a look. I remember trying to do BFFM, but overall it seemed way too complicated in the training aspect, as well as the nutrition, for me to actually keep up with it. This is something that's quite straight-forward, actually. The nutrition aspect lines up pretty close to Atkins', but allows a bit more carbs.

Yeah, I'm still around.

Still on TNT. Just starting week 5. I've been ignoring the scale for the most part, and just taking measurements every week. I've been pretty successful thus far. My wife has noticed that my body is feeling 'tighter', though I'm not able to see the success quite as easily. I feel great though! So, I'll at least continue through the entire 12 weeks and see where I'm at.

Debbie, I just saw this. It's nice that someone still remembers me. I came back here recently just to keep up on the Kimkins saga, and started poking around the boards a bit. I've been working a ton (I'm a personal trainer now) and I'm getting married in March, so life is hectic. I wish I could keep up more, this place is like home - I wouldn't be where I am today without the support of everyone here. How are things with you??

I got TNT, but I decided to wait for The New Rules of Lifting for Women to come out on December 27th and give that a try instead. TNT is a pretty solid plan, but I really liked NROL and the fact that some of my favorite trainers and exercise/nutrition writers put the new one together convinced me to wait. I've talked one of my clients into giving it a go with me so that we can track the results.

good to hear back from you Kris. I often think about becoming a trainer. I run alot so could do coaching for running. I need to get back into going to the gym more. Mostly I do Pilates.

Congrats on the upcoming marriage.

TNT since Nov 2, 2007

I started TNT in early November with a friend of mine. I have lost about 15 lbs in fat, gained some muscle weight. My size 36 pants are now sagging. I could probably fit into a 34. The workouts are great and the folks at mens health are great in helping with all your questions. I have become a TNT Activist. YOU SHOULD TRY IT!!!!

The TNT book will probably be my next fitness book purchase. Right now I'm thinking of starting the New Rules of Lifting for Women program for a couple of months and see how it goes.

I will definatly keep the TNT program on my "to be read and done" list for 2008.

I've been on TNT since January 14th. I've lost 40 lbs of fat and gained 15 lbs of muscle. I still have some fitness goals to achieve and TNT has got me off to a roaring start. I highly recommend it.

Will this plan work as well if you don't do the lifting plan? I'm a female and do more cardio than lifting at this point, although I do toning exercises with dumbbells, handweights, etc. The eating plan mirrors Atkins, it appears...

The plan is based on the fact that resistance training builds muscle that your body would otherwise be trying to consume due to the low carb effect. I guess you can follow the plan and not do weight training, but then your not really doing TNT, you're doing low carb with a lot of cardio.

I know women and girls who follow the plan as outlined in the book and they look great, they get leaner by the week. If your worried about getting 'bulky' there's a few threads on this forum about that myth.

I'm not sure about mirroring Atkins, I've never read it, but I've seen others address it. the carbs in TNT are usually eaten right after a workout, and every week or so, you can have carbs for up to 24 or 36 hours to replenish your glycogen stores.

I've been on it for 6 months and I've lost 6 inches on my waist and gone down 2 shirt sizes. I'm on Plan A. the most carb restrictive plan, that's why I'm not sure about the time frame for the reload phase. Good Luck!

Oh no, I'm not worried about getting bulky. I know all about that myth! I just don't dedicate most of my workout time to lifting and focus more on cardio. Plus, I'm not sure I would follow the plan to a T since I would still eat fruit and drink milk. My friend bought the book and was telling me about it and he lifts a lot. It appears to cater to lifting more than cardio so I was just curious...

OR15, this is meant positively...

Lifting has been proven, over and over, to be the most effective at helping people drop body fat. Is there a specific reason that you choose cardio over resistance training?

I am choosing cardio over lifting to get in shape. To be able to walk up a flight of stairs without breaking a sweat or to be able to run an entire 5K, etc etc etc. I still do toning with 8-10lbs dumbbells and use the weight machines at the gym but focus more on cardio. I am knowledgeable about health and fitness, my problem is I am still lazy!

And the Body Pump class at the gym is still my favorite! It focuses on toning and strength training using high repetitions and getting your heart rate up.

Great Book

The TNT diet is great IMO

I devised a similar diet a few years ago based on Mauro Di Pasquale's Anabolic Diet (very similar to TNT) and have been reeping the benefits ever since.

I basically allow only 30g of carbs during the week and have a 36hour carb fest at the weekends. I train 5 days a week which leaves my glycogen stores well and truly empty.

Even the recipes in this book are great! Volek's writing style is easy and enjoyable - it's not a complicated read.

I'd love to see more women lift weights. Mose don't understand the awesome effects.

In short, I definitely recommend this book

Hey Mark,

I LOVE the Anabolic Diet...quite a few of the girls I train with have followed that plan and have had amazing results. I've read the book, and have to say that Mauro is a great writer and makes a lot sense!

I'm always impressed to hear of ladies who have the intelligence to look into nutrition themselves instead of following the latest fad from some girly magazine.

Any girl on the Anabolic Diet is welcome at my house, hey I'll even cook you a taco salad

I just started the tnt diet a week ago. so far I havent noticed any weight loss maybe a pound or 2. at first i was eating ALOT. now its a week later and I barely had anything to eat because im just not hungry. And today I'm just completly exhausted and have no energy. is there a time frame of when you should start seeing some results? because i actually think my stomach looks fatter. I'm 5'3 and weighed 140 I'm now roughly at 137, and im a 23 yr old female.

I remember this as being pretty typical with the first week or two of any low-carb diet. Your metabolism goes nuts for a couple weeks before it settles into a fat-burning machine. The energy should return.

I tried the low-carb thing back when I was a rower in college to try and shed enough weight to make a light-weight boat, but I got absolutely destroyed by the first couple weeks of the plan and had to jump back on the heavy carb diet. I've hesitated up until now to go for the low-carb thing again.

I'm planning to start the TNT diet/training program this coming week. I'm nervous but hopeful.

6'1" Male, 225 lbs. Let's see what happens.

Maybe I can get some help here. I did Atkins about a year ago, or maybe 18 months. I lost about 50 pounds. For the past six months I have been seriously lifting (body building)... but most of the bb's I know tell me I need a ton of carbs to gain muscle...
I like the low carb lifestyle alot
I feel better, sleep better etc... Can I eat low carb, and build muscle? Thanks for any help you can offer

Absolutely! Stay low carb and lift weights. You'll build muscle and not gain fat.

TNT is a great book. I'd recommend it to anyone.
