Cocoa Roasted Almonds at Sams

I went to Sam's Club today and found a wonderful new treat there. Emerald makes a Dark Cocoa roasted Almond that have a really great flavor. They come in a 2.375 lb jar and are 3 net carbs per 1 oz.(approx 30 almonds). I can't wait to try baking something with them.

Buffy45 07-23-2008 03:44 PM

Kevin, I have read about these in a few other threads, people really really seem to like them. Darn, DH went to Sam's yesterday and wanted to know if I wanted anything, I forgot about these. Hmmm, might have to make a run...

wifezilla 07-23-2008 03:45 PM

I have been hearing about these. Since I am out of Sugar-free caramel Da Vinci syrup anyway....I will look for the almonds while I am at Sams.

Chocolate Almonds

Once CostCo had them and we loved them. Then they disappeared.

Enjoy some for us too.

If you would give me the brand name I shall try to find them online.

thanks,
b

Barbo, they're made by Emerald.

CarolynF 07-23-2008 05:44 PM

OMGoodness!!! These are fabulous!!! I have hidden mine from my dh behind the cat food..(he never feeds the cat and if he does, he will have a reward..)..Anyway........Just a small handful really makes you feel like you have had dessert!

wifezilla 07-23-2008 05:50 PM

OMG!!!!!

These are so good! Someone needs to hide them from me before I eat the whole jar!!!

Where are they normally found at Sam's? I have to make a run this weekend.

I found mine in the nut section right next to the pistachios.

Tweaker Geek 07-23-2008 06:58 PM

Anyone seen these places other than Sam's? A friend mentioned them today and we looked at a Walmart but they didn't have them - it wasn't a super Walmart though so maybe I'll check there tomorrow.

LindaSue 07-24-2008 07:35 AM

Some regular grocery stores have the small canisters of them but they're very expensive. I paid $7.00 for 11 ounces at Randalls here in Houston.

And, the Sam's giant size is about $10.00..

Kevinpa 07-24-2008 10:28 AM

The 38 oz or 2.375 lb container that I bought at Sam's was $9.88.

wifezilla 07-24-2008 10:31 AM

Guess what I had for breakfast?

SmileySue 07-24-2008 10:56 AM

Oh goodness these things are so good. I've got major portion control problems with nuts, so I don't buy them anymore....:stars:

Much better for you than Cocoa Puffs, which is what they taste like.

Randalls tends to be overpriced on most things so I won't be buying them again. Luckily I came up with a homemade version that's pretty good if I ever want to indulge.

Would that be the COCOA COATED WALNUTS?

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

I found these in one of my grocery stores but I wasn't going to pay $5 something for that little container, if they were a bit cheaper would of tried them and if I liked them get the big one at Sam's. I never really liked dark chocolate but my taste buds have been changing so maybe I will now :dunno:. If I don't the girls at work will eat them up anything with chocolate :)

Determinedtolose 07-24-2008 07:26 PM

I found them at Safeway. They were in the regular size, 2 for 7.00.

They are good, but I don't find myself eating them up like I thought I would. I guess that's a good thing!

crazywoman-n-wy 07-24-2008 08:52 PM

Oh these do sound delishious. I Love almonds, and I Love dark chocolate. And I already have portion contol with nuts, so these could be dangerous for me.

I have found that different Sam's clubs carry different things (just as do WalMarts). IE, I can get Macadamia nuts, and my sister whose nearest Sams is in Texarkana, AR/TX (can't remember which side of the state line it is on) can't get them. So not sure if mine will even have them. And I've bought things down there that I can't find at mine.
But, I may try LindaSue's version. Sounds like it might be a better option since she mentioned the Emerald had modified food starch. (Actually tho if that is Resistant Wheat Starch, I guess it isn't a problem anyway.)

jlatislaw 07-24-2008 09:11 PM

If you go to amazon they have them along with a lot of reviews. It must be a YMMV thing because a lot of people weren't that impressed. They're 20.00 for 4 11 oz. containers (free shipping for prime members). I'd probably rather buy just one can to see if I liked them that much.

I can actually take them or leave them, myself. I've had the 2 cantainers for over 2 weeks already. I thought I would have finished them both off by now.
They would be good in the CO bark or some other good lc dessert.

I may try LindaSues version too!

Yes, but scroll down to the variation. It's more like the real thing than the recipe at the top of the page which was my first experiment.

They don't taste like dark chocolate. They taste like cocoa and have the same flavor as Cocoa Puffs cereal.

LindaSue - I made these this morning - Yummy - thanks for this recipe as well as the many others I have tried.

madpoet 07-27-2008 05:32 AM

Wife bought these for me yesterday... oh my god. I'm going to have to ban them from the house, they are waaaaay too good.

Zib 07-31-2008 04:06 PM

LindaSue, I made your variation recipe this morning and YUM! I used pecans and used my Exopat sheet, letting them bake for just under 20 minutes and stirring them after 10 minutes. I let them cool completely on the sheet in the oven with the door open part way.

This is a keeper. Thanks for the recipe.

qbu 07-31-2008 07:32 PM

Just printed out the recipe from LindaSue's site...I will be trying it as soon as I buy almonds!
