I lost 4.2lbs this week bringing my total weight loss to 60+ lbs this time around and 70+ lbs from my original weight in 2011 and my BMI is finally under obese! It feels good to be only "overweight". Today I didn't eat so well, I went to the melting pot but stuck to only cheese and meat but had to watched my fiancé eat desert! I feel overwhelmed to knowing I have 40 lbs left but as they say it didn't come on overnight so it can't come off overnight! I am happy to see everyone joining in and the support has been very helpful. I love reading everyones posts and usually check daily. I hope everyone has a great day and a great week

Hello Lee and Afer! I am glad you have joined us too since this is a re-do weightloss for me again and I will be encouraged as YOU lose!! Congratulations Afer!! 70 lbs is a LOT! Don't be down on yourself for the last 40. Maybe look at it as 20. Then readjust once you get closer!! Sometimes we can sabotage our own success. I know first time I lost, it kept surprising me to see myself in the mirror thinner. FINALLY I got used to it and loved it. Then I got sick and had all my regain issues while in grad school stress. But, that was then, and I am so glad this is NOW and that you are joining us to help encourage each other and make this STICK!!!

Stacey and Trish, I was in trace ketosis this AM. Not bad since this is day 3. I had cottage cheese for lunch and that threw me out of ketosis. But, I cannot go around testing several times a day. Can we say sabotage!? Not THIS time!! I am so blessed to have the support of everyone here, and to be of support. WE CAN DO THIS!!

Hey Everyone! Soo glad to see so many of us here!

Deb, I think cottage cheese can kick you out of ketosis in the short run- but I think almost any dairy product would because lactose is sugar (?). I think that's why my clinic is so tight fisted about the dairy the first week. I have to admit I did eat a little dairy my first week, and still lost 8.2. I LOOVE cottage cheese but I buy the kind with fiber in it to offset the carbs. I only check for ketosis once a day, first thing in the morning. Once I start drinking all that water it doesn't show.
Wow! Afer! that is amazing 60+ lbs!! Are you still on acute WL?
I am following plan, but without the supplements I don't know how much I am going to lose this week. I have an appointment on Friday for a weigh in, but I am wondering what I am paying them for at this point?? Because I can't have the injections or supplements until I get my BP under control. I guess I am going because I feel if I don't go to the appointment I will just quit altogether. I need you guys!!

Yes I still am in acute, I am not sure when they switch you over.. If it is when you get close to goal or when you reach goal I am not sure. I still have 40 lbs left and being 5'2 that will put my at a healthy weight of 120.

Today I have had a stomic bug and spent the day in bed drinking liquids and trying to figure out what is low carb and that my body will be willing to keep down. My fiancé made me chicken soup without noodles but it was to spicy and didn't agree with me! Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow! I have been going to the gym regularly and it feels weird not going, but luckily not feeling well has kept my cal count down. Hopefully I'll be back at the gym and work tomorrow

Staceylynne, although my weight stayed the same I gained a little in fat too, my second week. You are doing great. Remember this is for the LONG HAUL! You might want to cut out the PB or other things that might be high protein but adding carbs. I had to do a look at my "checkbook" calorie counter to see what could have added fat since I was not as strident my second week with the whole new med, BP thing. Don't get discouraged, 4.2 is a great loss for the second week!
Oh, Afer- stomach bug! That is hard on low carb. Don't be too hard on yourself. I would allow myself some saltines...or perhaps sprouted bread which is easier for us to digest and is okay in some ketogenic diets later...but it is up to you, only if you feel you can do it without over doing it!
Hang in there ladies, we can do this!!

Day 3 and doing good so far. I am not feeling hungry (the pills are working). Not craving any food or anything. I just need to get used to eating only protein. Happy Tuesday!

3rd day lesson

Note to self, eat in the morning before you get on the train and then walk a mile. Ugh, I don't feel good right now.

Peanut butter is off limits to me.....it causes a hunger for more! (And I do like it!) I substituted for almond butter, don't tend to eat as much of that.....Maranatha brand.

So I was in moderate ketosis yesterday AM! Last PM left work late and so hungry....went through drive thru and got a shredded beef BBQ sandwich, BBQ sauce on the side....did not eat the bun (well, ate about 2 bites of bottom bun). That, plus a little container of sauce probably kicked me out of ketosis for this AM. But I am in this for the LONG run and I will be good again today! Want to see a lose when I weight here on Friday. Weighed at worked yesterday for our Spring weightloss....probably down about 3 to 4 lbs from Friday (unofficially).

Deb, The cardiologist appt. is for this Friday and I am going to have to change it since I have to pick up my daughter from school. She is a freshman and having a very hard time this semester (second semester blues?). She has been calling and texting everyday and in tears, so since it is a long weekend I am going to bring her home since she wants to talk face to face about what is going on. So hard having her so far away.
I think since they made the original appt. for a week after I was seen that they aren't too concerned? My NP sort of put it into perspective, she said lots of people walk around with BP like this for years...still it's really causing more anxiety since the BP meds don't seem to be working. I am going to take all your advice and ask that they run the ultra sound (they did that about 6 years ago and found nothing), stress test and a monitor (I've done that before too). I have had HBP since I was 18! and at that time I was a cheerleader, runner and swimmer. Everyone on my dad's side has HBP. I've head it runs in families? I dunno. I have always eaten healthy (Peanut Butter being my downfall, never much of a sweet eater, or had that much salt).
Ooh, sorry, I guess I am probably rambling on too much about myself...sorry guys! Thank you for the prayers!
And Staceylynne, I feel your pain going without PB! Ugh!! Our beloved chunky/smooth/salty friend in a jar is alas, not a real friend to us! Almond butter! I have heard that it's really good! Maybe in a week or so I will try it!
Lee, take care to have some electrolytes and protein first thing! I have known people to pass out on this if they don't eat/get electrolytes! Hope you are feeling better!

Definitely they want you to get your BP checked out. It was probably the soonest the doc could see you, and it wasn't like they felt you were going to have an immenent stroke. Also wondering if they will do a CT of your chest/abd to rule out aortic aneurysm. Put together the history of everyone in your family and the effects they have had as a result of HTN. Any kidney failure. HTN is such a silent killer. Sorry to be so truthful but I really have to be! I care about you and want you to be informed and get this under control!! Love you, Trish!!

So Far So Good!

Doing better than I expected today! Not hungry at all and making good choices. Already have 1/2 of my water in as I think this will be one of the challenges! I added lemon, hoping that it's ok... Really looking forward to getting healthier in 2014

This week had been hard for me with my stomic bug, but finally starting to feel better and we are getting a snow storm.... Everything is trying to stop me from going to the gym this week! I always feel much better working out and I notice the difference in the way my cloths fit when I am comststantly going vs when I'm just eating correctly. I work third shift so it's hard to make time but today I am going no matter what! Now I'm off to bed!

Wow! Sounds like there are a lot of New Englanders here! I am going to the Wakefield clinic. It's about a 45 minute drive for me and my appt. is tomorrow but with the weather....I here it's not so bad near Boston but we have at least 12 inches on the ground right now and it's turning to ice...gym closed early today and will be opening late tomorrow, so no time to go with having to pick up my daughter from Amherst MA. I am guessing they have even more snow since they cancelled classes today! Planning on at least an extra hour driving both ways. Ugh! I am so ready for winter to be over!!!

I don't know who wrote about pizza, but I sometimes make low carb pizza with low carb pita bread, a little tomato sauce, cheese and other low carb toppings. I don't eat it often because it still has a moderate amount of carbs but I will eat it when I'm really craving pizza. If my fiancé has regular pizza (ex we are out and he orders some) some times I will pick the toppings off the crust (as discussing as that sounds), it will have a lot of fat but won't kick me out of ketosis.

What are everyone's plans for valentines day? My fiancé is working till 10pm so not extra ordinary my way, except I'll bake him his fav cake and a nice dinner (not that it's different from most Friday nights... They are my night off and I work third shift so I don't really cook much during the week so try to always have a hot meal ready for Fridays).
