I was allowed nonfat cottage cheese but found it had too many carbs for as many servings that I was eating. I think it has 5 carbs per 1/2 cup. I have had cheese since the first week, but try to stick to the lowfat, no carb variety. I have been counting it as protein. Unfortunately many of the cheeses that I choose (nonfat feta in particular) have lots of sodium, but it is good in a salad or omlette.
