Trish - What a pain to go through all that with your computer. It is good to see you here! I am drowning in new responsibilities at work! Wish work wasn't 35 minutes away....so planning is very important. I haven't been back to WW just yet....towards the end of the semester and I have so much to do that I have been working late on the evenings I meant to regularly attend WW meetings. After the heartcath?!!

Thanks Deb,
Well, I will have to wait until after TG to start since my doctor put me on steroids- the day I stopped antibiotics, and while I have been trying to eat medi- I am STARVING- and have not been able to keep to the under 1000 calories. Still it's low carb, so it's a start...
I do understand how you might be missing WW meetings. It takes some time after a stress like that to decompress. I am still trying to decompress after my husband's cancer treatment.
So, let's take a deep breath. Thanksgiving is coming, let's go into dinner with a plan...and not go crazy on the stuffing or MP or gravy ...I will be making roasted root vegetables (turnip, brussel sprouts, and cauliflower and baby potatoes, I will just push those aside)and a wild rice casserole along with my other usual dishes. Now I know these aren't medi-friendly but they are healthy, and I want to enjoy something on TG. So that is my plan. Mainly because I don't want to feel like I completely blew it and throw in the towel.
Does anyone have any good low carb options for Thanksgiving dinner? Do you have a plan for dinner and how to avoid the pitfalls of the holiday table?
One other thing I have done is I signed up for boot camp at a local gym with friends- class starts next Monday. I have to pay in advance for the classes so it will ensure that I make it there, not to mention that my friends will give me a hard time if I don't show. Praying that the bronchitis will be gone by then...

Going to clinic today for the first time...decided I couldn't do it on my own, so I will go ahead with the payments for 4 weeks, the closest clinic is running a special, and they take flex pay health spending accounts.

Hi Trish! How is it going now?

Congratulations jlsinclr!! Awesome! That is encouraging!!

I have been thinking of you all but have been so busy with the end of the semester at my university, the responsibilities of the extra work I have agreed to take on for next semester (eek!), Thanksgiving in Springfield, Missouri with DH's family (and brought home a second kitty: 8 year old Biff), went to Little Rock, Arkansas racing to beat Storm Cleon with the ice and snow!! Mom had her heartcath and was found to have 99% blockage of her left coronary artery that the cardiologist (the 2nd opinion specialist!) was able to successfully open with stents!!! Mom has been feeling better and may be able to receive a synchronized cardioversion in about 3 weeks to get her out of atrial fibrillation!! Now that her heart is receiving excellent blood flow, her shortness of breath is a little lessened, and getting out of atrial fibrillation will bring new energy! She is so motivated to eat better and do cardiac exercise rehabilitation. She wants us daughters to do better too and lose weight with her!! I then drove through the ice storm of Deon and am grateful that I was able to make it home safely! And so much has happened since then....I began decorating our house for Christmas last pm, and still have so much more to do....DD & SIL from TX, and other DD from MO coming in about a week!! I have received the best gift in that my Mom's heart is saved from having a heart attack....so thankful!! I felt God's presence with me to help minister to my mom and family while in their presence. God is WITH us, Emmanuel!! It was such a tender time to pray and worship--"Jesus, Jesus, Jesus....there's just something about THAT Name!" If God allowed me to be a nurse for ONLY being able to be helpful to my mother and family 10 days ago so that she would successfully go through her miraculous heartcath....then I am blessed and thankful!!

Hi, yes, I just restarted. Slipped and fell on the ice last month and was laid up during the holidays So went back to the clinic for my weigh in of shame...was asked the question, "are you ready for this??" Yes I am!! Still in a lot of pain, but able to drive and get around and SHOP for myself now! Luckily, I didn't gain too much...Getting back into the swing of things is HARD!! But two days under my belt. Feeling positive.

Debbie, Wow! God is good indeed! What a blessing to be able to minister to her and to your family! So glad she is better, and on the mend! I got discouraged with no one here, and after my fall (so stupid, going down to feed the chickens!!) and was unable to really drive so I just ate what was in the house-eek! So back to clinic, back on plan. Praying I can stick with it, I even changed our vacation plans so I can stick with it. Torn ligaments, fractured tailbone! Ugh! It's been about 6 weeks...so feeling much better.

Trish!!
Bless your heart. I feel your pain! I had a fx tailbone (3 times!) First daughter's delivery-difficult-OUCH! (broke outward) Fell down a couple of newly carpeted steps in a hurry while multi-tasking-OUCH! (broke inward) And another fall when my foot was asleep....so stupid. (repositioned even further inward....just terrible) And my daughters were cheerleaders so I ended up spending LOTS of time on bleachers....OUCH! I ended up having tailbone surgically removed (not usually done) about 13 years ago. Ahhhh!!

Started teaching my classroom course, very much material to lots of adult learners studying to become RNs....stressful new teaching situation. Prayers welcomed!! (But should go okay). Not motivated to be good. Weigh in at work for spring semester weight loss will start Feb 3rd. I gotta do something. I am still at my max weight. I did get my treadmill fixed and used it a couple of 10-15 mins sessions last week. I have been putting in LONG crazy hours to get prepared for these class lectures!!

I am SO glad you are here. I don't check in often, but will try every other day just for you!!

You can do this Trish!!

Thanks Deb!
I am also starting a new class, teaching ESOL to adults...something I did for 17 years before going to culinary school...I am very excited about it- I haven't been taught for 6 years, so out come the books and lesson plans. Assessment begins next week and then I will be in the thick of it. The GOOD thing about that though is that it will keep me busy! I will have to schedule my time better, including meals. I am still catering, but doing more event planning, which is easier on my poor old tired bones.
Day 3 is almost done and I am having a really hard time! I know this will pass once I get into ketosis...just trace today. Drinking lots of herbal tea, and decaf coffee (no milk, no sugar) I feel like I'm going to float away! This clinic is much stricter than my last clinic. No dairy, for the first week! Ugh! I know I can do this...

Way to go Trish!!!
Welcome Stacey

I am just here intermittently. I am in over my eyeballs with planning for the critical care course I teach weekly for student nurses. SO MUCH!

I made a pork roast today. I think of low carb daily....my biggest problem is that I am frequently still out and about by the time it comes to dinner and I just grab. I gotta get into some kind of routine. Like I said, maybe after next week when we start weighing in at work. I like contest like things! That is why I like this site too!!!!

Hi Stacey Lynne!
So day 4...I was running into lot's of problems at church today (coffee hour), but managed to get by with just 12 (I counted hahaha!) peanuts, and about 1/2 oz cheddar...(so much for no dairy) but considering the options! And I was starving! So I need to remember to pack some medi-friendly snacks, like some hard boiled eggs or something.
Last night I had an unbelievable thirst...could not get enough water, so took a pinch of salt. I read somewhere that that is a sign of going into ketosis. Still just a trace, but considering all the water I drank (upwards of 3 litres including the electrolyte water) I'm not surprised. The salt seemed to help and feeling more normal today.

Good choices Trish!!

When you consider that fruits and veggies contain water, and you are in week one not eating those yet....no wonder you were thirsty. Also, it takes more energy for our body to break down protein and fats than just the simple carbs or even complex carbs. So, though you may not have been exercising, your body has been WORKING! Plus, we gotta drink lots of water when in ketosis...to protect and help our kidneys excrete all that broken down fat. We really don't want it to have to break down our own muscle (protein)...and that can be really bad for the kidneys.

Great job!!

I'm looking forward to hearing your progress too Stacey!

Hi Deb! I was getting a little frustrated today...2 more days 'til weigh-in...Ugh! I have been so good, but am really nervous. I went for my second B injection today, they only do B12 injections, so just in the arm. I don't feel I get the boost of energy I did with the B6, but I'm sure it's helping. I have had a lot of "nervous" energy- probably more of "what do I do with myself when I can't eat??!!" lol! I am hoping for a 5-7 lb loss, which will still leave me in the 170's, which is a little depressing, but the weight didn't come on overnight. So it will take sometime to come off. In the meantime I know this way is the fastest way to lose weight in a healthy way. It will take probably 3-4 months to get to my goal.

Hi Staceylynne...they call it "the low carb flu"...Your body is getting rid of all the sugars ...but after about 3 days you should be feeling a lot of energy as your body goes into ketosis switching from burning sugars to burning fat!
How was your first appointment? If you are getting headaches, it might be from the caffeine withdrawal. You can probably have one cup of caffeinated beverage, but any more than that and you have to drink plenty of extra water.
Tomorrow is my first weigh in. I'm still only showing a trace ketosis but have been sticking to the plan, so hopefully will see results!
Deb, thank you so much for checking in here, I know how busy you must be! How are you doing??

So...good news and bad news! Good news is I lost 7.8 lbs altogether this week! 4.2 lbs of fat, and 3.6 of water! Yay!!!

Bad news...my Blood pressure is SUPER HIGH! I just got back from my doctor because the clinic said I should go. This happens everyonce in a while and they have to switch my BP meds. But it was 190/106!! it's "down" to 172/100 right now! They just upped my BP meds, no stay slim until my BP goes down. Sticking with diet. I can't even say how unusual this is, it usually goes down! So who knows what is going on?? But The clinic was very helpful not letting me panic, and calling my doctor right away. My doctor says to stick with plan, losing 7.8 is awesome. So hopefully on the right track! Ack! I am a little freaked!

Thanks Staceylynne yes, definitely no peanut butter allowed! If you can do this without the appetite suppressants that is definitely better, because you will be weaned off them eventually anyway.

Stacey - eventually small portions of PB will be allowed. I hear best yet is to buy powdered PB. I forget what it is called. People add them to shakes and such.

So our work weigh in is Feb 7th, next Friday. It will be super tough to go through carb withdrawal and try to stay pleasant!! We'll see.....

Congrats to you Trish!! I am so happy!! Your body may be putting out stress hormones thinking you are trying to starve it to death!! How was your pulse, okay? A little fast too? Just wondering if you are having cortisol rushes. That is what I will call them. SO thankful your doc said to continue on the plan!! I had to get started on something for BP about August, I take it in the evening. Plus I take Atenolol in the AM for mitral valve prolapse. When I don't drink enough I start having flip flop irregular heart beats. I need to get better sleep too!!

So glad you two have each other, and that I can watch. Til next week anyways!!

How's it going Trish and Stacey?

Mind me asking what you were eating for breakfast during week 1? That is my hardest, especially if you were not allowed to have milk products, Trish.

In the past, we used to post our meal plans. You are welcomed to do that if you like, here. I guess we should open up Medi Friends in 2014 instead. Want to do that Trish? And then post here if you do?!

I'm working on my powerpoints for Monday today. Lots to organize!! Prayers welcomed!
Thanks!!

Yes, I was thinking about starting a Medi Friends in 2014. I will look into that.

I have not been doing so well...had a mandatory dinner to attend on Friday and ate okay...not great, not many choices. I also had 3, yes, 3!! glasses of wine! so knocked right out of ketosis, but seriously, there was nothing for me to eat, and it was SOOO boring! Work thing...

So today presents another challenge. Going to a Super Bowl party! Ugh! What to do?? I am tempted to just call this weekend a loss...but then I will have lost 3 days.

My pulse was a little high, 70, but it is normally around 48-50, very low, so I don't know. Interesting about the cortisol rush, I was wondering if there was just a spike of insulin because I had regular coffee that day, and looking at the stay slim it has about 150 mg of caffeine. I normally drink decaf, even when not on plan, so maybe that had something to do with it? I am going to the doctor tomorrow to check BP again. To be honest, I am afraid to check it at home because if it's high what do I do? I will panic and send it higher!!
So I am not doing stay slim at all, and also not doing the fat burner.

Congrats Tricia~ I am glad you are posting!! I am now at about your starting weight under your avatar. I am avoiding the scale the past 3 days...weigh and start for me will be this Friday.

I know it can be frustrating when you have those temptations Trish....but don't go all outbound. Be careful! You don't want to pay and do week one over and over and over and over. You can do that on your own without paying someone else to weigh you!
