Labor Day Weekend
OK, so my weigh-in is tomorrow...I know I can start having 2 servings of veg./fruits starting Saturday. Not too worried about the food...more concerned with alcohol consumption at a holiday BBQ.
I enjoy wine and beer as much as the next person; my plan is to only consume alcohol one day this upcoming holiday weekend. Any suggestions on what is low carb, cal., sugar, etc.?? Looking to have two or three, not go overboard. I may not even drink alcohol at all...I'm just looking for options with dinner. Last edited by ChrissyG; 08-29-2012 at 09:48 AM.. |

Be very careful with drinking alcohol! It is your choice but my clinic said absolutely no drinking at least the first 30 days. I understand your predicament with the upcoming holiday..my week 2 was actually memorial day weekend so I completely understand where you're coming from! We went away that weekend with 2 other couples and everyone drank the ENTIRE weekend lol. I made up my mind before we left that I wasn't going to drink and stuck with it. It was tough not to indulge but I ended up just sipping on sparkling water with a lime in it.
Now that I've been on the program 13 weeks, I do sometimes enjoy a glass of wine or light beer and I see a big difference on my weightloss in the weeks I do and do not have something to drink. If you do decide to drink make sure you choose wisely Whatever you decide, enjoy the holiday weekend! |

I am thinking about Bud Select 55 (55 calories, 1.9g carbs)...that's the lightest beer I have seen. Otherwise I am looking into the new "skinny girl" wine line...those have 100 calories per 5oz glass though.
The skinny girl brand also hard alcohol, but I haven't really looked into it. I really haven't decided what I want to do..I am SERIOUSLY considering not drinking at all. Just like a nice cold one when the weather is warm |

What I do, which they suggested at my clinic, is to have a shot of vodka with carbonated water, and then add one of those crystal lite singles to it (I like the lemonade). When I go to a club, I just stick a couple of those in my purse and order the alcohol and water. Its the least calories and carbs with the biggest alcohol payoff (not that I'm looking for a big alcohol payoff, but if I'm going to indulge, I want to get the most out of it). I usually restrict myself to two, and in between I drink one with no alcohol.
I work it into my calories for the day, but I always make sure I get my protein in too. Its a little tricky to figure out, and you may have to go a little higher than usual on your calories, but its doable. They also told me at my clinic that when you drink alcohol, your body will stop burning fat and switch to burning the alcohol, and won't go back to burning fat until its used all the alcohol. So its best to restrict it to special occasions. Its funny, I was so worried about this at first and thought I would feel deprived, but I've found it doesn't really bother me at all. In fact, I find myself not really feeling the drink is worth it. I'd much rather indulge in something like some yummy fruit or frozen greek yogurt. I think by allowing myself these small indulgences, its no longer that big of a deal. And believe me, I'm one who used to really enjoy my liquor! LOL! |

Hi CrazyCatLaday!
I have been researching online about vodka, because I know it's an alcohol that has the least carbs...a lot of vodka's are calorie free and carb free. Just have to pick the right one to buy for the weekend. I don't need to drink every week or weekend, I definitely want to keep the alcohol consumption to special occasions...as long as I won't be gaining weight from vodka, I can live with having to burn the alcohol off first. Also, if I do drink it, I might mix it with the PowerAde Zero |

I've never heard of calorie free vodka, you'll have to tell me where to find that! And the PowerAde is a good idea!

I drink every so often.. usually have Mich Ultra (2.6 i think carbs), diet cola/rum, mio or crystal light w/ vodka... not sure on wine I dont drink it. The calories are just going to happen with alcohol so I try to keep it low carb / carb free when I do have a drink..
