New To Medi :)

Good Morning Everyone!!

I am new to the Medi Weightloss program...this past Saturday was my initial consultation at the clinic in Randolph, NJ. The first week is clearly the hardest because of the 500 calorie ALL PROTEIN restriction...although, today is day 4 and I am still feeling ok. My weigh in is Thursday afternoon.

At my intial weigh in, I tipped the scales at 170lbs. I am 5ft. 2in. tall and my goal is to lose 43 pounds, I will be happy with 40, or even 45 :) Does anyone out there have any advice for the rest of the program? Generally how long does it take to start losing a substantial amount of weight?

I know they told me at the clinic "most" people lose between 5 and 7lbs the first week and 20 the first month. I know there's no quick fix for weightloss, and thats why I was drawn to the program. I also know two other people who both lost over 100lbs each by going to the Randolph Clinic.

I feel like I am surviving the first week but I am interested to know what other people in the beginning stages of the program are feeling. And if any Medi "veterans" are out there, please share your experience!

Tomorrow makes the end of week 4 for me. I lost 6.5lbs the first week, 3lbs the 2nd week and 6 the 3rd week. & now week 4 when I ate a little too much at dinner just because something good was cooked, I've lost just over 1lb... so my main advice would be to not think "cheating" one time wont affect you b/c it will. I've had a really good mind set so far and now I really regret going over my calories! But I think I'll come out to have lost 16lbs at leas my first month and cant complain about that! Its super easy to stick to it and with these results, theres no reason to not stick with it! Good luck!

5'9 starting weight 238 ... end of week 3 weight 224... eat right, exercise, and see results!

Chrissy G,

I started on Saturday too! and a lil over 170 at 175. My goal it 45lbs. I think we could keep in contact and keep motivating each other, I think I'm going to need someone to talk to regarding this who is at the same phases as I am.

MiniMomma 08-28-2012 04:11 PM

:hiya: I am 5'3 and started at 165.6, I lost 6.2 the first week and averaged 1.4 lbs per week, as of todays weigh in I reached goal. I feel it took me longer than it takes some but I knew going in that I am a slow loser :) For exercise I do a karate class about 2x week, and walk a couple other nights after work. Watch your carbs/calories and you will do excellent , and come here for any questions since there is some great advice on these boards!!
Best of luck on your first weigh in, stick with it and the results will keep you motivated for sure!

Hey! I have my first appt this upcoming weekend at the Randolph clinic as well. Good feedback on them I hope?! I'm kind of nervous, I also have about 40-45lbs to lose.

Here's the record of my weight loss from the medi site.

Date Weight Change
May 11, 2012 / 229.4 lbs.
May 18, 2012 / 222.2 lbs. / -7.2 ↓
May 25, 2012 / 219.0 lbs. / -3.2 ↓
June 1, 2012 / 213.5 lbs. / -5.5 ↓
June 8, 2012 / 212.0 lbs. / -1.5 ↓
June 15, 2012 / 210.2 lbs. / -1.8 ↓
June 22, 2012 / 205.6 lbs. / -4.6 ↓
June 29, 2012 / 202.0 lbs. / -3.6 ↓
July 6, 2012 / 200.0 lbs. / -2.0 ↓
July 13, 2012 / 196.6 lbs. / -3.4 ↓
July 20, 2012 / 194.5 lbs. / -2.1 ↓
July 26, 2012 / 191.0 lbs. / -3.5 ↓
Aug. 3, 2012 / 191.0 lbs. / 0
Aug. 10, 2012 / 187.0 lbs. / -4.0 ↓
Aug. 17, 2012 / 184.0 lbs. / -3.0 ↓
Aug. 24, 2012 / 182.6 lbs. / -1.4 ↓

I've lost 46.4 lbs in 15 weeks! It starts off tough, but gradually gets easier. I try to eat at least every 3 hours, but I keep my portions small. I've also found that small amounts of high protein food fill you up more than you think. A cheese stick and a glass of water a couple of hours before lunch keeps me from feeling ravenous, which in turn keeps me from overeating.

I have gone over my calories a few times, but I try to keep it low carb and high protein. So if I feel like I just HAVE to eat something and I'm at my limit, I'll eat something like egg beaters, which is low cal, low carb, and high protein.

I think the most important thing is to plan in advance everything you are going to eat for the day. I fix my lunch the night before, and pack it with two snacks. I also carry a couple of emergency snacks in my purse (usually beef jerky), and keep a couple of ready to drink protein shakes at work.

And don't forget your water! That was probably the hardest thing for me. I find its easiest to have a see through bottle, and a time limit of when I should drink a certain amount. For instance, I have a 40 oz bottle that I fill up in the morning, and I try to drink the whole thing before I eat lunch. Sometimes I forget and have to spend an hour chugging water, but I make sure I drink it. This not only fills you up, it helps you lose water weight. If you don't drink enough water, your body holds on to it.

This is all I can think of for now, I hope it helps! :-)

Congrats on all of your weightloss CrazyCatLady! And thank you for sharing your experience. I definitely plan everything out that I am going to eat for the day. I am finding that when I'm at home I drink more water than when I'm at the office. IDK why...I got one of those 20 oz Brita water bottles with the filter inside, that seems to be helping because I can drink water from pretty much anywhere with that. I also drink the pre-made Medi Protein shakes for breakfast every morning...I love the chocolate ones :)

Thanks, again for all your help and good luck on the rest of your journey!

Hi Aliebee,

Have you done research on the program at all? Or on the Randolph Clinic? At first it may seem very overwhelming but everyone in Randolph is extremely helpful, caring, and personable. They really seem to care about each of us as individuals. They pride themselves on being readily available whenever we need them...and for the most part they really are.

Good Luck!!

Good Luck!!

I have been doing about 2 weeks of research! They came up on groupon so I bought it! They had to cancel it for this evening, but is rescheduled for Saturday AM.

You will definitely be hearing from me, I think it'll be great to have a buddy close by!

CrazyCatLady 08-30-2012 09:56 PM

Thank you! I want to get one of those Brita bottles too. I have a Brita pitcher at home and I fill my bottle up from that, but I have to refill it halfway through the day from the machine at work, and its just not as good. Maybe that will be my next purchase!

Hello!
I am so glad I found this forum. I just did my first week weigh in and lost 9lbs. Only 2 lbs of fat so I was hoping for more fat but I am still very excited. First week was tough but getting easier. My energy level is the worst. I have none! I am hoping it gets better.
Chrissy and Elizabeth - it looks like we all started around the same time!
Good luck ladies!! On to week two...

Gilbehl 09-04-2012 01:33 PM

Forgot to add my weight. I am 5"8 and 174 to begin. And down to 165!!

mslady919 09-05-2012 01:23 PM

Monday made 1 week for me and I was excited that I lost 10.9lbs. That really motivated me to stay focused and start excercising to see how good I will do neext week.
