*Amazingly Awesome August for MWL*

Here we go, into the "dog days of summer". BBQs,picnics, summer vacations and outings. The Summer Olympics. Are you in the pool swiiming like Ryan and Michael, Missy and Rebecca? Or playing volleyball like Misty Mae and Kerry? Shooting baskets like the Dream Team?

What are you doing to work toward your goal weight? Anything special for the summertime?

You all can do this! I know it! MWL truly is the one that works!

Had my major sinus surgery last Friday and looked forward to jumping right in to MWL again but I am not allowed to do the AS, herbals, lower calories, or exercise for 2 wks postop. So, I'm planning....

Good to see you Susanna, I know you'll get this weight off soon!

Debbie - i hope your recovery goes very well. Definitely focus on getting better so you can give the plan 100%. Good to see you too!

I can't believe it is already August! We are having a record high low already for the day in Tulsa! It only got down to 90 last night. The high today may get to 115. I am having no problem getting in my all of my water!

Since I am not going to a clinic anymore, I was fortunate to find a doctor to prescribe appetite suppressants. I forgot how jumpy and restless the AS make me in the first week. I have not been sleeping well the past couple days, but I know it will get better.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

I had my first weigh-in this morning since rejoining Medi...I'm down 7.7lbs, with 4.8 of it being fat! Quite a few more to go, but it's a good start. They fussed at me a little for working out and not replacing calories...will have to work on that.

I remembered to test for ketosis this morning (day 5). I forgot yesterday. I am in ketosis. I already knew it before I tested because I have so much energy and woke up really early. Does this happen to you?

I am adding back in some veggies today! So tired of eggbeaters, fish and chicken breast by themselves! I can already tell a big difference in bloat. I can fit back in my pants . Amazing what a difference 5 days can make!

Its been a bit, wanted to check in and let everyone know I see all the great results going on! WTG group!

I Have been hovering right above goal, was hoping to reach it by end of July... I did a bit of soul searching and I think I am nervous about working on the "maintain" part... going off the AS is a bit scary for the first time.. so I go into the nervous wanna eat mode. I have kept with good low carb choices for snacks just to many of them :/ ... Heres hoping August will bring me some courage and lots of loss to all!!

Congratulations MiniMomma - That is truly insightful. So many times people just want to try it on their own (me in past) without really working on the "too many of those even low carb snacks" issues.

Good loss Honeybee!!

Suzanna - I had to use my own triage/emergency nursing critical thinking Sunday AM to save my life!! During my 7/27 surgery (FESS) the procedures also included right ethmoidectomy and right frontal sinus surgery, as well as bilateral mega maxillary anthrostomies. In my 1 wk visit 8/3 the PA found my right ethmoid area severely swollen from tissue/bone removal and started me on Prednisone 30 mg for 3 days, and then decreasing thereafter. Saturday we'd traveled from CO to KS and I just used Ocean Spray instead of the distilled water/Neil Med sinus rinse packets....but I used a lot of Ocean Spray and that intense saltiness made it really hurt back in my surgical area, so at midnight we went out and got the supplies I needed. Sunday AM I was getting ready for church (visiting my daughter in KC) did my irrigation without any pain, and sat down on toilet, leaned over to reach for tissue after voiding, and thought I had irrigation solution come out of my right nostril. NO! It was blood and I could NOT dab it, pinch it off! I was having a posterior bleed with blood from both sides of my nose and down the back of my throat! DD would turn icky green at the mention of blood/scabs/veins since age 5 and now at 25 I depended on her to save my life!! She came through!! I told her to give me the bathroom trash can so I could lean over it, while I pinched. Told her to get me ice in a paper towel for my face and ice in a water with a straw for me to sip on (to cool outside and inside, and prevent nausea)....and go get Afrin, even if had to go to store. Praise God in a couple minutes she thought to look in her first aid kit I'd set up for her about 3 years ago when she got her first apartment alone....unopened it was safe for me to use postop and I sprayed over and over and held ice and tried to reassure her as she stayed on the otherside of the 1/4 opened bathroom door trying not to pass out (her!!) She wanted to call EMS but I knew the long ordeal that could be and I just wanted to avoid further bloodloss and delay of first aid from post op situation. Praise God she was there!! I would not have been able to get anything, go to fridge, call 911, anything. I really thought I could die and that my poor daughter would be traumatized!! 25 minutes later I washed out my shirt, changed clothes, and we went to the 2nd service instead of making it to the first service =) At 4pm driving alone the 3 hours to get home, I sipped ice water and held ice to my face the whole way home (had no further bleeding) but could feel something in my sinus area. Irrigated and worked on it about 9pm (husband home) and coughed up about a tablespoon-sized blood clot from my right sinus area. GROSS!! Praise God I'm okay!!
Doing just fine today!! Prednisone can cause ulcers under even normal conditions, so I can see why it caused me to be more prone to bleed from the surgical cut area in my sinuses! Thankfully the doses are decreasing and I will be off it in 5 more days.

I am not allowed to do the AS or herbals yet. But I think I'll go ahead and start the protein diet WOE. Thanks for the tip that you have done well with 5 days of egg beaters, fish, and chicken breast. I need to eat. All I've had today is an iced coffee made with 1 1/4 scoop of whey protein powder! We can get this weight off and be healthy!!!

Wow, I am so glad that you were with your daughter and were able to get the bleeding under control. I hope your health continues to improve and that you will feel 100% soon.

In addition to fish, chicken and egg beaters, I have been eating a lot of shrimp & turkey breast as well. I really have to mix up the protein sources or I start getting sick of what I am eating really quickly!

I have complete faith that we can reach our goals.

I forgot to add. For my first week, I lost 3.5 pounds. I was hoping for a big woosh, but I have been eating low carb for so long that I am not surprised that it didn't happen. I am happy to be moving in the right direction!

Sorry to have sounded like SUCH a drama queen in my above true-life story. It was at God's mercy that I could breathe....I could only get out one or two words at a time to tell her what to do cuz of having to clear my throat of blood, etc! I am so thankful she was there!!

You inspired me Suzanna!! I have been eating out and traveling SO much in the past several weeks with trips to CO for surgery and follow-up; that yest AM my weight was 192 lbs!!!!!!! But just this AM I was 187.6. All summer I'd been hovering about 180 to 184 and I just really didn't like the way things were going. Had to be off so many meds, etc.

Yest:
B - iced coffee w/whey protein powder
L - 1 oz cheddar cheese, 1 scrambled egg
D - salmon burger (no bun), diet Sprite, a couple avacado slices, 4 cherry tomatoes, purple onion
S - cherries, black olives
LOTS of WATER!

Remember I cannot yet take AS or fat burners, so adjusting in the meantime.

Thank you Suzanna, and congrats to you as well!!

And thank you Fit....I join others in saying I'm happy to see you are doing well after a harrowing day.

Weighed in today and am down another three pounds. I'm having a few issues this time which I don't recall from the first time I did Medi...namely nausea, and a little light-headedness when trying to work out.
BP is down but not hypo, drinking lots of water...electrolytes maybe? Just hoping it goes away.

Weigh-in tomorrow! Last week I gained 1lb of water and lost 1lb of fat, so I've been stuck at 191 for 2 weeks. My 1st goal is to get to 180 by the end of August, so I really need to make some leeway. This week I've really been working on my water and keeping the calories low, but since I don't have a scales at home, I have no idea how I'm doing. So I'm kind of nervous! Wish me luck!

Thanks! I'm really happy with the results so far.

Honeybee, I wanted to say that I have had those problems too, and electrolytes do help. But I also figured out if I take my vitamins on an empty stomach it makes me nauseous. I eat a cheese stick and sip some powerade zero and it usually helps.

Checking in- have been struggling a bit. I hanging just below 170. My clothes are fitting nice and I am losing my motivation. Uggg! I really want to lose 10 more lbs and would be there if I actually followed the acute eating plan for 3 weeks. I can't figure out if I am self sabotaging or what. I know I am afraid of maintenance.

I do find for breakfast and lunch. I have the best intentions on the drive home. I even drink a protein shake so I am not starving. When I get home and start eating dinner, I just keep eating. Too many protein bars, and other sugar free stuff. I feel like the AS isn't doing anything for me any more. I know I need to get into ketosis again to stop having the cravings but I can't stay compliant for more than a day. Anyone have any tips on how to get back on track. I even swore to my clinic that I would journal and then I don't. Sorry to vent but mad at myself.

From what I've read, certain sugar free stuff can still spike your sugar levels, which would cause you to crave even more. Maybe try something different for supper, like egg beaters (that's what I usually eat). Also, maybe a change in routine? Maybe eat in a different place and then start an activity that will keep you occupied. I do my nails or give myself a facial while I watch tv to replace snacking. I still struggle with it though. I hope things get better for you!

This is my first post. I started MWL on Tuesday. I forgot to check ketosis this morning, so I guess I should wait until tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll see a difference at the scale on Monday, so I'm nervous about that. But I've been sticking to the plan.

Congrats all! You look like you're doing well, and Deb, I hope you're starting to heal better!

Mom2childs- welcome! This is a great plan and does work. This eating plan is allowing me to work through my food issues.

Journals last night. Not what I ate but my feelings and what may be contributing to my struggles. When I first started, if I would feel munchy after dinner, I would have a bowl of chicken broth with an egg white beat up in it. Need to do this instead of sf snacks.

I will no longer buy protein bars and other sf treats.

Much more in control tonight

As of my last weigh-in, I have moved out of the BMI 'obese category', into merely 'overweight'!!! I started with a BMI of 37.0 in May, now I'm at 29.7. It sounds funny to be excited about being overweight, but I am. :-)

Welcome mom2childs! Let us know how your weigh-in goes on Monday!

ericak44 - sounds like you're doing great! I found it was a slow journey learning how to get control of my eating, and I still struggle. But I just take it day to day. If I screw up, I try not to beat myself up too bad, but instead, brush myself off and start again.

mom2childs - Welcome! And thanks for the well wishes...as of yesterday (3rd wk postop) I finally feel the worse is behind me! Still tender to wear my reading glasses for hours and hours....glad Aleve takes care of it now!

Just finished my re-do of day 1. Erica said it perfectly regarding food issues. I have learned alot about myself with regaining all I'd worked so hard to lose. Now I'm MAD and want to stop carrying around all this fat! I know I can do this....with MWL, with my LCF support system, and with planning!! Now back to fitness....like I had in Sept 2010!

Suzanna, CrazyCatLady, Erica, HoneyBee.....are you still working your plan? Miss you! How's it going?!

Congratulations Andy!!! That is SO awesome!

I just finished day 3. Really need to get more water in. Avoiding the scales until 1 wk is done!

Thanks everyone. Apparently I'm not subscribed to updates and didn't realize that people posted after I did. I'll have to check that out.

I'm down 5.6 lbs. That's awesome because I threatened to quit if I didn't see results on the scale (I didn't/don't see/feel them otherwise), but obviously I don't need to.

My goal this week is 3 lbs. I'm so excited to eat fruits and veggies. I'm not taking any supplements or appetite suppressants, but I should probably try to pick back up with the supplements.

I seem to be doing okay with the food right now, but baking cookies and making dinner for my daughters really has me struggling. I just want a taste of what they're eating. UGH! They're very encouraging (ages and 8), but once school starts tomorrow that will add another layer of confusion and disorganization. We'll see how it goes.

You all are doing great. I look at those numbers in the sidebar and I'm just amazed. One day I'll have similar numbers, right? I'm looking forward to it, although staying on the wagon is getting harder and harder.
