Thanks, Deb! Glad to see you here, too! How have you been? I hope things have quieted down and that you're feeling better. I have been tracking calories (usually 700-800) and try to keep the carbs around 20-25. I've been doing my Jillian DVDs and am feeling great. I am not perfect every day, but I am shooting to be at my goal by my birthday July 13 - 13 more pounds! I keep repeating 13 by the 13th..LOL

I restarted FINALLY!! This is day four and down 3 1/2 lbs. First day had about 11 g carbs, 2nd day 22, 3rd day about 36g (and too much fat due to eating peanuts) and felt gross!! But this AM down 3 1/2 lbs and in moderate ketosis. Thanks for the accountability!!

NSV today- I wore a skirt without tights and didn't get chub rub. Yahoo!

On a not so positive note- I ate frenchfries this weekend and it is giving me craving for all sorts of things that I don't want to eat. WI is tomorrow. I hope week 3 isn't a bust because of my bad choices this past weekend. TOM is coming any minute which I am sure isn't helping the cravings. Debating if I need to week 1 it for a few days.

Does anyone else still get cravings despite AS?

Deb- Good for you for getting back on the wagon. When I am in control of my eating, I feel like everything else is my life is easier.

You've got this! I think the first three days are the worst and you've done it. Keep it up, you're doing great!

Hi everyone,

I'm new here! After reading a lot of posts and just sifting through the different posts, I finally decided I'd post something myself. I'm 17 years old, so I'm still a minor, which is a bit unusual for this program. To make a long story short, I had been steadily losing weight (until I was in a comfortable size 8/around 160 pounds, and still losing) via normal diet and exercise by myself for a couple months. Unfortunately, I became sick and gained it all back, and then some, due to my illness and the medications meant to treat it.

Since then, I have struggled to lose the weight following a plan similar to when I first lost, and the frustration and lack of success led me to consider Medi. I have around forty pounds to lose, and I really hope this program will work for me

At my first weigh in last week, I only lost 5 pounds, which was a little discouraging, I'll admit. I followed all of the clinic's rules, and used the tips I read about in the newbie thread. When I read about all of your wonderful successes, I had high hopes! I follow the diet to a T, but I still fluctuate between trace and small on the ketostix, and I even exercise 4-5 days a week. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong

I'm terrified for my next weigh in on Friday, because my scale at home hasn't really budged, and I don't want another failure. I have a tendency to think negatively, so I decided to post so that I can talk to and support people who are successful, to help me see the positives of this program. Maybe I'll manage to find something that can help me, or even a little bit of motivation!

Good luck everyone,

Gabrielle

Welcome! I think 5 pounds is great! I was much heavier than you when I started and I was disappointed with my first week loss (7.5). I had read about all these people losing 9,10, up to 13 pounds the first week. The good news is, the second week I lost another 7.5 and it just kept coming. At my first appointment I met two people who had lost over 60 and 80 pounds, respectively. They said get ready, this is going to be tough, but it will work and it will work fast, so stick with it.

Stick with it Gabrielle. If you keep doing what you did during week one, the weigh will keep coming off. Good luck!

Gabrielle - I know it is frustrating to have gained when ill and on medications (that is a lot of my regain problem as you read)....and having reached success (and size 8!) in the past you want to be back there as soon as possible.....but work the plan, and it will get you there. Don't be getting on the scale daily. I know it is hard to only weigh weekly, but try to cut it down to just twice a week or so. Also, consider that TOM and even too much sodium (lots of diet soda even) can help us retain weight, so you may see a difference without those influences.

Welcome to the group!! I am excited that you are there at "Susie's" clinic!! You will do well!

Susie,

So GOOD to hear from you again!! When I went to my MWL appt today to get restarted I had them hand me the stapler at check-out so I could staple my credit card receipt over my weight loss graph....that way I wouldn't be starring at the mtn peak and wonderful valley of being at goal (that I had reached in the recent past), followed by a mtn top again after regaining due to illness/pain in joints due to repeated Levaquin and Cipro treatments...ugh! I had already been back on plan for 5 days on my own and journaled all I ate. I hate week one eating AGAIN....but the past several months have proven to me that I NEED low carb eating, and that Weight Watchers is not a good WOE for every BODY. Insulin Resistance makes a difference....and WW WOE made me just crave more carbs (even if it was on the WW plan of all the fruit and veggies being zero points and freely allowed). Now being on day 5 of week one eating (again) it's like, "oh, here I am"....I FEEL so much better!

How are you eating nowadays? You and your family got so used to all kinds of new meals and ALL lost weight...anything else new?!

Hi Debbie,

I too have had medical issues, including stress, menopause, pre-diabetes/insulin resistance despite eating 99% on plan. My mother is a diabetic and some genetics you just can't avoid. I have had to go back on acute, which I don't mind since I am completely used to eating this way and it is comfortable. I don't miss eating the way I used to and on the few occasions I have indulged I don't enjoy it the way I used to.

Both my parents, who live in Maryland, have had strokes in the last year which has involved a lot of travel and hospital food. My father is now blind and in a wheelchair. My mom is currently in rehab and on comadin for the stroke, and suffers from dementia as well. My father-in-law has had a long struggle with cancer and is just barely hanging on. He lives in California, so I have had to travel there as well.

My wrist has recovered 90% from the fall I had last year, which is far better than the prognosis the doctor had given me.

As for my family, we all still eat this way and it really works for us. My husband still has his 34 inch waist and my son has kept most of his weight off as well. Every so often he goes off for a while, but as soon as he reaches his weight threshold he goes back onto acute. For a 22 year old he stays fairly disciplined.

Working for Medi has been a life saver for me because it keeps me focused and motivated. I know I will always struggle with my weight, but what is key for me is to never give up. Staying positive, loving myself, and treating myself as I deserve helps me to keep up the good fight.

I'm glad to see that you have kept the fight as well. It isn't easy. If it was Medi wouldn't be in business.

Hello to all! Hope everyone has had a great June so far! I did Medi back in 2010, lost 120 pounds and reached maintenance and then got pregnant and had a baby. My weight has creeped back up due to a complicated pregnancy and then some PPD and me just not paying attention/caring. I am not happy at all and even more unhappy I have a closet full of great clothes that don't fit

I started back on Medi yesterday and feel better already although still have a bad headache. Went to spin this morning and ready to finally beat this...for the last time!

So nice to see some familiar faces and new ones. This site was invaluable to keep me focused the first time around and I am sure it will again this time!

I went to visit my older brother in North Carolina this past weekend and had a hard time sticking 100% to the diet while up there since we ate out for every meal. Not to mention I decided to eat a biscuit from being so hungry. :P

Despite some splurges and not-so-great foods since Friday, I am still in ketosis. It's a good feeling. I don't know if anything happened to my weight, especially because of salt content, but I'm going to wait a few days to weigh so I won't have a reason to beat myself up.

I'm officially from a size 10 to a size 6 too!

Thanks for all the support everyone! This week's weigh in didn't go terribly well, but the nurse explained that I was just retaining water, which will come off much more easily. That, along with Fit2010's comments, made me go back and scrutinize what I'd ate. This week, I'm going to be more vigilant about my sodium intake, hopefully that'll take care of the problem.

Also, congrats Kristin! Your losses have been really impressive, especially considering your start date. You only have a couple more pounds until you reach goal, great job at making your goal a reality

Good luck everyone,

Gabrielle

I've been searching thru the recipe pages but am not finding what I'm looking for. I just want a simple marinade for chicken on the grill. Does anyone have any tried and true marinades they love?

I have 2 I use all the time and I love them!

Juice of 1 lemon
Minced garlic clove
1 tsp of oregono (have used it with rosemary too)
Put in ziploc for a min of 2 hrs, max of 4 hrs. (the lemon juice starts to 'cook' the chicken otherwise.) Don't know the exact nutritional info but you will find that alot of the marinade is left in the bag.

The other is actually the one I use when I grill pork tenderloin and just tried it on my chicken last night (No lemon in the house and I didn't want to run out in the middle of our 'monsoon' weather.) I'm eating leftovers right now and they are good!

1/4c balsamic vineager
1/4c olive oil
1-2 cloves of minced garlic
Marinade a min of 4 hrs and best if left over night
Again no nutrional info but most of the marinade is left in the bag.
Hope you like them.

Hi guys, I just finished my 4th week and I am down 14 lbs. I know I could have lost more but I had some struggles staying completely on plan. I am learning from them, moving on, and not beating myself up. This is a big improvement. The scale has been moving slowly the past 2 weeks but I have seen a big difference in how my clothes fit and I feel so much better than I did 14 lbs ago! Trying to increase my exercise too.

Andy- WTG!!!!

Susie- Wow! That is some serious stress! I am sure that working for Medi certainly helps to keep you accountable.

Gabrielle- A loss is a loss and also the lack of a gain. We can not let the number on the scale or a number of pounds lost determine our success. Do your clothes fit better yet? Do you feel better yet? Doesn't it feel good to be in control of your eating again? Write down 5 things that were good about this week, even if the scale didn't move as much as you had hoped. You are doing great! The scale does very wierd things depending on TOM, sodium intake, etc. If you follow the plan, it does work! No matter what the scale says. Even though it feels like it, you didn't gain it in a week and can't get rid of it in a week either.

Deb- I am so happy to have you back in the game with us! Going to the clinic really is helping me. I am really trying to focus on the big picture this time.

Andy - Congratulations!! Great loses!!

LEA!! Hi Girlfriend!! Available for a lunch meeting or even later sometime this summer?!!

Erica - Yes, it's great to have the support of the ones who got us to goal previously. We CAN do this! I'm still learning...journaling, measuring, and seeing I really need exercise back in my life consistently like in the past. I was hoping to try to lose 15 lbs just with diet before getting into exercise, but this insulin resistance is making weight loss stubborn without exercise!

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering: How much do the stimulants contribute to weight loss? I just started taking phentermine, at the beginning of my 4th week, and I'm curious if there's a noticeable impact.

Thanks!

Gabby

Gabby- I have always used the AS so I have nothing to compare it to. My understanding is that it is to suppress appetite to make it easier to stay on program. Not necessarily speed you up to make you lose more.
