Good morning! I've recommitted myself to getting back on the plan. I had horrible kidney stones twice and got them blasted at the end of August. My urologist advised me to drink more water and talked about drinking things with citrate. So, I've have a near 6 week intermission from the plan and am ready to start losing again. At least I know when I was off it, I didn't go too crazy like I normally would have.

Deb, Jbjb93, Barb aww thanks you guys! Work in progress... My plan is to remain a work in progress.. because if I'm not that means that I think that I know it all! And guess what? That isn't possible!
Ferrari this is your SUPERKALAFRAJULISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS moment Way To Go Girl! Stay commited, be a low-carber for life, spread the word, spread your joy, think of the power that you have to help motivate others to improve their health & life! Get it girl!
Today begins my journey to cut even more calories, to see if it's possible to break my plateau of the 160's.. kind of been lingering between 160-164 since August... bye-bye nuts FOR NOW!
I would like to share that I have been seen by another weight loss specialist ( an Endocrinologist that specializes in weight loss medicine). I did this because I wasn't satisfied with the answer that I need to exercise more @ my last 2 MEDI clinic visits. It was an extremely satisfying appointment. The MD explained to me that I just may be at a weight that my body is satisfied with; however it is possible to lose more with diet change. He encouraged me to try to eliminate snacks, and stick to 3 meals a day high protein/low natural carbs to see what results this may get me. He did advise me that 130lbs goal for me is most likely not a maintainable goal weight. He said that it is possible for me to reach 130lbs; however the measures that I would have to take would be so drastic, that the ability for me to maintain that weight would be unfavorable. He told me that I am healthy and fit. He gave me that pat on the back, reassurance, and the "ok" that I needed-- to know that this low-carb life is safe for me for the long haul! He praised me for maintaing, and losing a bit more weight since my last MEDI appointment @ the end of July. I share this with you all to say that everyone's goals are different! I don't know how much counseling each of your received about your "goal", I don't know if your goals are attainable.. I received no advice or guidance in choosing a goal.. I just picked a # out of my head. With that said, I am changing my stats today to reflect my new goal of 150
I would like to be nearly flat tummy bikini clad by Thanksgiving for my vacation to ORLANDO yippy!
Happy low-carbing ladies & gents. Remember that you have the power to change you----

Great attitude! And it has to feel good to get validation from doctor that you are doing things right! Like you, I have toyed with idea of a lower goal weight but realize it would be just too hard to maintain and would lead me to disappointment that could spiral to more weight gain. I figure with my goal of 140 I can have a 5lb cushion.

Ah, I agree, nuts are good. Especially those Cocoa Almond 100 calorie packs. Yummy.

Good luck in your continued loss.

Just got back from clinic. I was quite apprehensive about this weigh in, but lost 2lbs. Whew. I was hoping for more, but 2 is still a great amount, 1.9 fat, .2 water, gain of .1 muscle.

I think I am getting too complacent with my eating. I have started taking miniscule nibbles of foods I am not supposed to eat, which I am sure add up. Also, I eat more than a cup of veggies sometimes. For shame.

I must adhere!! Today is a new day.

Thank you everyone!!!

You have all played a great part in helping to encourage me along the journey so far. Yes, I said so far because I know this is a journey for life for me. I know if I allow myself to slip up to many times it will all come back and probably with a vengeance. I refuse to let that happen.

Be good to yourselves and if you do slip get up dust yourself off and get right back on the wagon. It can be done and you are worth every bit of effort it takes.

Have a great day.

Thank you. I intend on spreading the word as much as possible and always being a low carber.

I am glad that you got the confirmation you needed. I believe that our bodies get to a weight that it is comfortable with and refuses to let us loose more. I was afraid mine reached it at around 140lbs. However, I started exercising a lot more and broke through. I didn't receive much guidance on my goal weight either. I just kind of went with the high end of what I am supposed to weigh for height and age. You are very encouraging and I hope you stick around when you make that goal. It will come very soon.

Weird week for me ... at my 9 week weigh-in today I was down 2.8lbs, which consisted of a 3.6lb fat loss, a .60lb water gain. Week 8 was similar.

Just seems kind of low for how had I've been working at it.

checking in after week 1...... I am down 13.5 lbs...the most ever in a first week for a woman at my clinic! So exciting. Let's hope it continues for week two! Thanks for letting me post this here.... it helps be a little proud

after looking at the tanita slip (this was a different machine in the office from the original one)
I'm a tad confused after the tanita says my fat mass went up 2 lbs and my fat% went up 2.4%.. that's a kick in the pants. my TBW went down 10 lbs also....SO I don't know what to make of it. I did eat lunch and breakfast today and have been very very strict on the calorie and protein only deal. ARGH! Can someone help me decipher this so I don't just give up.... could the diet be making something in my body turn to fat (to get burned, maybe?) I'm so confused.

Hi guys...it has been a while but I have returned lol.

My quick story was I was 325 and went all the way down to 195 (I weighed 195 for about 20 minutes ) and maintained my weight around 210 for quite a long time.

I could never fully get over the hump to get as low as they felt I should get to (around 180) and over time I gained back 45lbs

i am on day 4 of week 1 again and am so woozy haha I forgot how hard week 1 was but I am determined.

I'm still playing tennis a few times a week and I have a 2 week old baby girl along with my 4 year old (turned 4 today) son...

glad to be back on the boards, and I hope everyone has been doing well

Don't read too much into that! When you lose water weight, the fat weight will appear to go up. Don't worry! It WILL even out! Just look at the over all weight loss. If you try to over analyse your slip each week, you will drive yourself batty!

Swirveegirl, I am 5'4" as well and picked 150 pounds as a reasonable goal. I'd like to go a bit lower so that 150 is my "red flag" weight but we shall see. I once topped out at 246 around 4-5 years ago, so a weird part of me would like to weigh 146 so that I can remind myself that I am 100 pounds lighter and need to NEVER let that happen again!

When I mentioned 150 pounds as a goal weight, my initial counselor just nodded. So I guess it was "reasonable" enough.

Hi Cathy,

I've been on the site about 6 months now and always saw your posts on the food in energy out thread. I know you were exercising so faithfully (and really inspired me too!) and I always wondered if you were eating enough for all that exercise? Also like others have mentioned could your body be happy at this weight? Have you been lower than your goal? I feel for you and don't give up hope girl

Hey there Reebs

So nice for you say that you got inspiration to exercise!! I have been still going along fell off the Medi wagon about 5 times since I started this new healtly way of eating. I continue this journey with you all here. I have not lost a pound but, I have not gained any weight so it is a wash. I still wonder about calories and exercise and maybe not getting enough to push past my 140's. I still do my elliptical and jillian michaels dvds 5 days per week, and that is were I feel like why is this weight not comming off, anyway I did post a few days ago over in the energy exercise thread. Hope you are doing well too, and all of you other ladies and gents lets keep the support comming

btw Iam doing 600-700 cals a day, drinking close to 3 liters.

Hope to post again soon.

Hi MaraMom and Rachel, AND Reebs and Cathy and all!
I am 5'4" also and had initially picked 137 so I'd be several lbs within the normal goal for my BMI and not teeter on the edge of it. But changed my goal to 145 when trying to stay below 140 was so, SO tough, plus I'm fifty-five now, so that may make a difference. True, not exercising as regularly really makes a difference too. Just 10 wks left of school!! Anyways, having this board and intermittently reconnecting with my MWL clinic helps. Today I was 161.8 lbs after a leisure seven day absence from purpose MWL low carbing. I've been eating more fruit and veggies, basically just MWL but lots more calories. I think it's okay to do this every once in a while to break a plateau but the trick is to get back on 600 calories and stick with it for a while again. Here goes!

Justin - Welcome back! I'm glad you caught it before it made you have to run out and buy larger and larger sized clothes again. That's where I'm at. After reaching 137 a little over 12 months ago, I eventually got up to 30 lbs heavier. This battle....it's awful isn't it!

Good job to all of those losing the LBS and those getting back on track! Yay! We are truly having some beautiful fall weather here in RVA this weekend, wish I wasn't feeling so under the weather this weekend
The most difficult time for low-carb eating in my opinion is when you are under the weather!

Leaving tomorrow am for a week out of town. My usual weigh in is Monday soooo I weighed myself on my home scale (I do this usually Monday am so I check its accuracy with the clinic scale) three mornings in a row including this am.

Looks like I have lost 4 pounds, but I'm posting 3 to be safe! Very happy as that means I met my goal of losing 10 pounds this month!! (actually 11 ) 40 pounds since starting 3 months ago Monday! Don't know the fat vs water vs muscle and thats fine by me after last week.

By the way, I did ask about the "7 pound fat loss, 6 pound water gain" at the clinic. The counselor said when they see such big discrepancies to just average out the difference, which is why she told me I lost 3 pounds of fat. Guess I caught up (or down!) this week!

Second bonus: First time I have been in the 170s in a decade! Maybe this will be the motivation to not blow it next week visiting with lots of people..relatives and friends. My bag of food is packed for my long day tomorrow...long layover, visiting people in pm ("after dinner" i said....sneaky, eh? LOL) Wish me luck and I do the same for all of you.

I could never fully get over the hump to get as low as they felt I should get to (around 180) and over time I gained back 45lbs

i am on day 4 of week 1 again and am so woozy haha I forgot how hard week 1 was but I am determined.

I'm still playing tennis a few times a week and I have a 2 week old baby girl along with my 4 year old (turned 4 today) son...

glad to be back on the boards, and I hope everyone has been doing well
Welcome back, Justin! You will drop the weight quickly. You know how to do it!

Congratulations on the new baby!!! I hope mom & baby are doing well.

Hi everybody - I've been away from this board for awhile, and, unfortunately have slipped a little. To re-cap, I joined Medi in July, '10, met my goal of 120 last October, even got down to 117 for a few minutes ... I continued seeing my Medi counselor (who is quite wonderful, btw) on a monthly basis, kept up the daily moderate exercise... and maintained the weight really well.

Then, "stuff" happened... family crises, my Curves closed, I began drinking too many beers, blah, blah, blah... and have I mentioned my addiction to Cocoa Roast Almonds? Anyway, the pounds have started to creep up and I haven't been back to Medi for a couple of months. I started to feel that old shame of my weaknesses, and honestly was embarrassed to see my counselor!

Okay, so a couple of pounds doesn't sound like much, I know... But I worked SO darn hard to get where I was last fall, both physically and emotionally. And it's become depressing. And I hate the thought of starting all over at week one, which I will definitely need to do if I don't change my ways NOW.

SO, I had a talk with myself this weekend and decided to get back on track, with some modifications that I can handle. The nuts and the beer have to go, at least for now.... Also the starches for the time being. More water, and more time on the treadmill every day that I don't walk. Guess I better give my counselor a call, too, and make an appointment...

I'm not usually a rambler like this, but I felt the need to come back here to my LC friends and ask for your support and prayers as I jump back in. I see some of my "old" buddies still here - Hi Deb! Thanks for your encouragement lately! And Mary... And Jo... Haven't gotten to catch up with all of the posts, but I saw amazing photos of some of the folks that I remember as newbies.
Wonderful work, all of you!!

Ann

Ann and Suzanna!! Good to see that you are checking in with us. I think we will always be connected to this site if we decide to actively keep ourselves in check....even if there is a slip up, then the accountability and feeling like it's not all lost is a great benefit of checking in!! Gotta go for now, but I wanted to say that your posting not only encourages us oldies, but I'm sure encourage the newbies too. We all recognize that this is a process....there are no magic formulas and then *poof!* you never regain it back. But when you do, we know the way that works!!

Swirvee and for all struggling with a goal
Just a thought - 3 years ago when I lost 20 (which I put back on plus 10), I talked about my goal with my Dr who I really like. He said for my frame and AGE that the normal BMI would be too low. So I'm shooting for 26 above the avg. Which will be what I was pre-babies and at my wedding!
Be realistic about what is right for you! There are so few 'average' people anymore!

Hi to the newbies and welcome back to others!

New here

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am on Day 2 today and so far this has been easy, the hardest part is not exercising as much as I normally do. I am usually at the gym up to 3 hrs a day. I have a goal of losing 100 lbs.

I am mommy to 5 kids, recently stopped working out of the home and keep busy with the house and life with the kids. I have really enjoyed reading through all the posts here the past few days and can't wait to see my results.

Nikki

I lost 2.3 pounds this week -- lost 3.8 fat and gained 1.2 water. I had a hard time getting my water this week, so I'm going to work on that and hope to lose that water AND fat next week.

Clothes are loose, and I'm wearing things that haven't fit in a while --Love that!!
